Will have a Top 15 in about a week and a half.
(already known) will be at NDs USC game.
Also likes USC and will visit them after the fall....sanctions will not affect decision.
Will setup a visit to Michigan when they play......ND.
Denbrock is staying active with Banner and Josh Garnett because the two have talked about playing together in college. Wants to have "the most legit line in the country".
Recently named MVP of an AAU tournament he was just at...legit in basketball.

Will be nearly impossible to find a legit D1 school that will allow him to play both sports due to the demand and time each sport requires on its own. Zach is high on UW's list of recruits, and his desire to play 2 sports has been discussed quite a bit by the Seattle press - the last Husky to play both BB abd FB ended up quitting FB to concentrate on BB - don't recall his name, but he was good at both sports. Remember him saying he ultimately had to choose one. UW coaches and fans have stated they doubt Zach would be able to play both for reasons stated above.

Garnett's Dad played defense for UW, so his interest in playing their is high as well - I would hate to see these guys go there, as I am a WSU Coug, and of course a Husky hater!

Living about 20 minutes south of Lakes High School (where Banner plays) I really can't see him going anywhere but UW right now. UW is doing a good job recruiting, and I just can't see him not going there. Now I despise UW and would hate to see it, but I am just calling it as I see it.

The other thing if they want to go play football and bball I can see him doing it at UW. They need a center right now, or a guy to take over where Brockman left off. So, it looks like that is where it is as.

And you really don't have to go to class at UW, Corey Dillion proved that. You can run from Cops and be arrested like Fogerson (at least Floyd didn't take off running from the cops, have team doctors giving roids out like mutiple teams have in the past, have Jeremy Stevens type players getting busted for attempted rape/running their cars into retirement homes, or having linebackers (Jeremiah Pharms) who shoot and rob their own drug dealers. Heck at UW they have people even take tests for their players. So, he can do multiple sports and be just fine at UW.

Heck, they take anybody up there. Shirley gets kicked out of UCLA for stealing and UW snaps him up. And the great point guard has sex with 16 year old girls and doesn't miss the NCAA Tourney. Sorry, had to rant.

A long way of saying, he can do both sports up there and not worry about academics they will make it work for athletes good or bad.

Per Scout, he has a top 9, in no particular order:

Michigan
Notre Dame
USC
Oregon
Washington
Oklahoma
Alabama
LSU
Florida State

Had a couple nice things to say about every school, so it was hard to get a read. Liked our tradition and location (according to him, SB is not too far away from Washington).

Ha...yeah it's only 2,000 miles away...but I like how he thinks that.

Added California to his list of finalists.

Plus: Quote from Banner

"I couldn't see myself playing for Penn State, so I knocked them off the list. I couldn't see myself playing on the coast for Miami. I saw myself in the Go Blue Michigan. I saw myself staying home at U-Dub. I saw myself at USC. I saw myself at all of these schools."

Did Banner let slip his three front-runners in that quote?

I like that he set up his officials so that he gets to see Notre Dame play USC and Michigan. I believe that his 5 official visits will include 2 games that include Notre Dame, against our two biggest rivals. Both will be prime time night games. We win both, I think he will be thoroughly impressed.

Steve Sarkisian could be seeing a Banner haul this recruiting class.

The best players in the state of Washington are all-purpose back Keivarae Russell and lineman Zach Banner and Joshua Garnett. But unlike most years, the best in Washington doesn’t take a backseat to anybody. These are three players that would be in the discussion as one of the elite in any state. University of Washington coach Steve Sarkisian knows that, and it has to make him smile.

Russell, one of the more underappreciated backs in the country, is a strong lean to his home-state program. Zach Banner isn’t tipping his hand, but at this point but I believe that Washington is in a great position to land his commitment as well. Banner has a very good relationship with Garnett, who also has Washington high on his list. There is a strong possibility that all three of these guys end up in purple. That is a haul that can take a program to another level.

Via Justin Hopkins at 247:

Zach Banner - Banner did not have a great first day. However after day one, the lineman watched film and came out for day two making adjustments. Banner made the right adjustments as he had a great day two. He's big, I don't mean lineman big, I mean baby Shaq big. His footwork is surprisingly good considering he's 6-foot-9, 310 pounds. Once Banner gets his hands on you forget about going anywhere but down. His biggest "kryptonite" was some of the more athletic ends he faced in the event. Several, including DeForest Buckner, were able to get by him with their speed rush. Banner arguably has the biggest upside of all in attendance with his combination of size and ability to learn from direction.

Bryan Driskell

ND Summary Quotes:

“You hear a lot of stuff from the guys,” Banner said with a laugh. “Especially from the guys who have already committed. I heard from guys at Notre Dame, Florida State, Michigan, Clemson. They were all like come to my school, come to my school. It was really nice to be wanted.”

“I got to meet Mark Harrell, he was there,” Banner said of the Irish commit. “He was in my ear a lot. We got to spend a lot of time talking. He got to explain to me some of the stuff he saw at Notre Dame, so that was pretty cool.”

Awesome job, Mark stay in his ear. Could you imagine what it would be like to have a 6'9 lineman over 300 lbs? Yikes, watch out opposing d-line!

He doesn't have to it's the S-P-R-E-A-D!

Golson's a gapper.

Taking your perspective, how are the DBs and LBs going to read his eyes?

While I agree with you up to a point BGIF, I have to admit that I wouldn't completely disregard the idea that very tall OL (6'4"+ and a couple of 6'6"+) and a very short QB (lets call him 6' but I wonder if that is generous) could cause some problems. Yes you can see through gaps in the line but it is more difficult then being able to see over them.

Lets say Golson starts the play reading the right side of the field and finds nothing open, then looks back left, while he will find a gap to see through, it might take him an extra second or two to read the left side. As we all know 1-2 seconds can be the difference between a completion and a sack or maybe even a pick if the throw is late. Now Golson has an extra positive in that he is fast enough to roll out a little and get a more clear view that a slower short QB might not be able too.

In summary, yes Golson is a gap reader when throwing, and yes the spread offense minimizes the negative impact of his height, but it does not remove it completely remedy the issue. And this isn't even taking into account that it is usually easier to knock down passes from a shorter QB (or in fairness a tall QB who has a sidearm or 3/4 release, as it is more about release point than height, but you can coach release point, but you can't change height).

Another thing to consider is how often are offensive linemen standing straight up? That isn't a very athletic position and it would be easy for dlinemen to either run around them or bull rush them over, and seeing over the OL's heads would be the least of Golson's worries.

I'm pretty sure this is Zach Banner's thread, not how a QB will be able to see lanes in the o-line.

It's really less about the OL and more about the DL getting their hands up in the passing lanes. The difference in release point between a 6'4" guy and a 6' guy is about 6" (throwing overhand with similar mechanics) and while this might not seem like a huge deal... when you map it out with geometry it makes a big difference in how far away you have to be from the offending lineman to make the throw "unaltered." So really it has a bigger effect on short-to-medium throws where you have to put it on a line and not arc it. It also has a larger effect on players coming from under center than those starting in the shotgun.

I'm really interested to see how much 5'11" Denard Robinson is asked to play under center this year.
