Bama will win out

Wouldn't blame him. Satan, errrrrr, Saban, can REALLY coach DBs, and he puts them in the pros. Kids see that, just like Clausen saw what CW did with Tom Brady and Brady Quinn. Clausen didn't come to ND for the education (although he is still getting his degree - good for him), he came to ND for a degree in Quarterbacking, taught by Charlie Weis. DB's do the same with Alabama.

Hopefully, these DBs see what ND coaches did with our DBs last year and what they do this year and we hold down Tee and Darby and lock up a couple other studs.

Agree 100%. Might take one more year on the resume for this staff to be in the conversation for one of the best at developing young DB talent.

Bama consistently lands one blue chip cornerback a year, and for good reason.

If the ND defense can make a name for itself this year, more kids in the 2013 class will take ND seriously. Landing Darby and Shepard is great, but a lot of that has to do with BK, Diaco, and Cooks selling what "could be." If the product does not show up on the field in year two, that story will get old, fast! Hold down a top 25 defensive slot this year and don't get butchered by Cousins, Luck, Barkely, or Robinson, and kids will take notice.

On the other hand, some kids (like Ishaq Williams, based on some comments he made), get turned off by Alabama's football factory culture. Its fun from a distance, but its another thing to sign up.

You are completely right about product, you can sell hope, and you can sell results, but it is hard to sell failure/excuses.

Tweets from Travis Blanks (#11 ESPN150, Safety, committed to Clemson) to Geno Smith.

"offer you can't refuse! Clemson is a weapon waiting to be fired...get on board or get left lol."

"That's what I'm sayin bruh! We can make it happen! Straight lock people down, win championships, and get drafted together."

Geno replied:

"dynamic duo"

"Yeah I haven't visited yet, I may just do it though I'll talk to my parents"

I hate going off of tweets but I caught these ones and thought they would be interesting. I didn't think Clemson was anywhere on his radar but we'll see what happens....it is Clemson...getting all this talent and not doing anything with it. Plus I don't see them winning championships with FSU doing what they are doing now.

I don't think he goes to Clemson. From what I've read on him and his family he doesn't really seem like the kind of guy who'd be into big duffle bags of cash.

EDIT: Also, fun fact of the day, Clemson hasn't had a 10 win season in over 20 years. Hasn't won a conference championship in 20 years. And has only won one NC a whopping 30 years ago. You don't go to Clemson for the winning football... especially not to win a national championship if they can't even get a 10 win season. Plain and simple you go for the CA$H.

Sounds pretty non-committal to me. I'm not too worried. It's likely Geno's just saying this because he doesn't want to say "hell no."

Rivals.com football recruiting analyst Keith Niebuhr just talked with Atlanta defensive back Geno Smith at a camp, and Smith said that it is basically down to Alabama and Auburn.

The Rivals.com four-star said he will no longer be taking his visit to Notre Dame and that Tennessee and Texas are on the outside looking in.

Expect a decision from Smith in the near future as he wants to get it out of the way before his season starts.

I think he is tired of trolling and ready to get it over with.

It was on the main board no prof yet. Just posting what i was sent.

Really wack kid has played around all this time just to come back to the original teams he had on top.

Dang. That's disappointing but we still have Tee & Ronald with some other great players (Yuri) that still have a chance to come.

Not worried.

Potentially something to do with Wilson?

I hope and pray we just get one of either Shumate, Wright, or Shaq.

Not a big deal with who we've got already signed up and who's left on our board. We're going to get at least one more talented DB from somewhere before all is said and done.

We all know ND isn't for everyone. Alabama is a great school, especially for football but how good is Auburn without Cam Newton? A great season this year will prove to recruits that ND is a title contender.

We tend to forget that there is a long way to go until NSD. Look on how crazy the last recruiting haul was. Things aren't over for any of these recruits. A successful season will go a long way with a lot of these kids.

I don't mind kids soaking up the spotlight with their recruitment when they are good prospects. But for those just playing around like that, that's something else. Best of luck to him, ND still has good prospects who are serious about ND. Geno missed out big time.

ISD is saying that they talked to Geno and he did cancel his visit but he did not eliminate ND yet. Again stated that Bama and Auburn lead ( for the 5 millionth time).

ESPNU 150 Geno Smith nearing a decision - ESPN

"The clock is clearly ticking on the Fighting Irish. Smith, 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds, said he likes the school's tradition but hasn't yet visited South Bend. He said he hopes to do so before announcing his decision. If he's not able to make the trip, that would clearly give the other four schools he's considering a distinct advantage."

I don't get the impression we're in the running for Geno anymore. Would love to be wrong.

Without a visit, it's just not a possibility. If some how a visit takes place this month, it's a whole different ball game.
