Reportedly picked up an offer per Scout. Older brother plays for Harvard, so academics probably plays some role. Won a bunch of awards for his junior year, including First Team All South Coast League and CA All State Underclass – First Team.

kyle Murphy

According to a U of Calif web site Murphy is now up to 6-6/280.
They also say he has very quick feet, is very physical and was the best
tackle in Calif last year. Also smart--offers from Duke and Stanford as well as Notre Dame's.

Per OCvarsity.com

San Clemente All-County offensive lineman Kyle Murphy -- the No. 1 recruit in Orange County -- has added offers from Florida and Oregon State, he said in a text message.

Murphy (6-7, 268) has a ton offers, including most of the Pac-12 and defending national champion Auburn from the SEC.

Here's his list of offers:

Oregon, USC, UCLA, Arizona State, Washington State, Washington, Cal, Stanford, SMU, Duke, Michigan, Utah, Notre Dame, Colorado, Nebraska and Auburn.

Murphy missed the recent Nike camp at USC because he attended Junior Day at Oregon.

Not a bad list. I would love to see this kid with the Irish and hope the academics help (love to see kids with a 3.9 gpa sign up). But I think it will be hard and my guess is that he is leaning to Oregon, but also has spent a lot of time with USC.

From Stanford's Nike Camp, under "Weekend's Best":

There is little doubt that Murphy, currently the nation’s No. 9 overall prospect, is one of the top prospects in the country after watching him in person Sunday. He’s got a great frame, elite feet and elite flexibility. The coaches were heaping praise on him for his ability to pass protect and move his feet during one-on-one drills, where he was dominant. Murphy has a double-digit offer count from all over the country and recently said that Oregon, USC and Stanford stood out the most.

In that article, it says he hasn't talked to ND much lately, but he's still open. In another article I read last night, he talked about the schools that he has on top and ND wasn't one of them. In fact, ND wasn't even mentioned once in the article. I believe the schools he talked about were Cal and USC, among a couple of others...

Thanks, legit interest rumors seem to be bust then.

Top 3 of USC, Stanford, and Oregon. Oklahoma and Florida are trailing.

College Football Rumors - Rumor Central - NCAA - ESPN

Open to leaving the West...hence Oklahoma and Florida.

Those two will probably get officials...not sure on the others...maybe he won't officially visit the others if he's been there already so if he is interested in ND I could see him for the ND/USC game.

He's high on USC but they already have Two 4* OT's and with their scholarship restrictions he may be left out.

The Opening notes: Bri'onte Dunn still a Buckeye ... for now - ESPN

Murphy close to setting visits
San Clemente (Calif.) High School four-star offensive tackle Kyle Murphy arrived early at registration for The Opening, but don't expect him to make an early college decision. Murphy, 6-6 and 270 pounds, is one of the nation's most heavily recruited tackle prospects, and the battle to land him is far from over.

"I haven't really narrowed it down to a top few," said Murphy, who's No. 30 in the ESPNU 150. "I've visited USC, Stanford, Cal and Oregon. I've visited all those places and liked them a lot. I'm still in contact with Florida and talk to them quite a bit."

Murphy said he's still formulating his recruiting game plan.

"Within the next couple of weeks, I'm going to sit down and start to plan out my visits, where I want to go, when I want to go, before the season, during the season or after the season," he said. "It's going to be some tough decisions, but I have a good feeling about some of the schools I've visited and want to explore other options to be sure."

JC Shurburtt (247 Sports): "Very impressed with five star Kyle Murphy. He's been a challenge for the DLs here. I hear it's Oregon or Stanford."

Via Justin Hopkins of 247:

Kyle Murphy - Murphy was solid on both days of the event. He showed no real weakness in his match-ups and showed why he the No. 9 ranked player in the nation. He has great quickness into his first step, great weight management and great hands. Going back through my notes I don't recall him losing a battle on day one, and may have only lost two or three times all day on day two. Murphy is leaning towards Stanford and Oregon, with USC lurking right behind those two. He'll be a big-pickup for some Pac-12 program, barring any major changes to his top three.

I wouldn't get any hopes up over this kid. He goes to my alma mater and his family is close friends with a close friend of mine. This is actually third party information (not 5th or 6th though), but apparently, the family has history with one of the Stanford coaches (not sure which one) and they are really tight.

Everything my friend told me has Stanford as the one to beat in this race. Tons of SC influence in this area too, so I wouldn't rule them out either. Plus, his best friend from high school (my friend's son) goes to Oregon.

Maybe we can still make some headway with an incredible visit, but I just don't see us beating out the ties he has with Stanford.

I agree that no one should get their hopes up. I am actually kind of surprised that he is visiting. Hope he has a great visit and he loves it, but I also feel he stays out west, whether it be Stanford or another program.

3 teams pulling for him to stay out West? Well, since he can't make all 3 happy might as well come to the midwest!

Stanford and Oregon lead from all the information out of "The Opening" but a visit could change a lot. If he is coming across country on his own dime, thats a good sign. I would say his top 5 is:

Stanford
Oregon
USC
Cal
Notre Dame

Rivals boards and ISD boards. Nothing confirmed yet but I saw it on two seperate boards. That's why I made sure to write "rumored" for the moment. ISD mods are trying to get ahold of Kyle to confirm.

Impressed with ND. Talked with Coach Warrinner Monday night. Notre Dame is in the running with most of the Pac 12, Florida and OU. Impressed with academics and we could land an OV.

I don"t have high hopes with Murphy. Just a gut feeling, with nothing to back it up. I would love to get him.
