Betting on ND to win the National Title

I thought this might get a rise out of a few people...

On the ESPN IPhone application, there is great little podcast called “Behind the Bets with Chad Millman”. It’s probably the best Podcast I have heard in a long while based on consistency and gambling intel. In an interview with Bruce Feldman of ESPN, Chad discussed NCAA Football Futures Odds (who will win the National Title in Football in 2011). Guest Ed Salmons, lead bookmaker for the Hilton of Las Vegas, went out of his way last week to destroy all Notre Dame fans who are picking the Irish to win the National Title. Salmons was quoted in reference to Notre Dame bettors,

“I have been here since 2004 (Hilton) and was at the Imperial Palace from 1992-2004. Every year you write a ton of money on Notre Dame to win this game(speaking in reference to a National title). It doesn’t matter how bad they are, they come in closed fisted. The square of squares comes in betting Notre Dame to win it all. It’s just how it is.”

The square of squares, you hear that Notre Dame fans? Face it; Las Vegas thinks you are the dumbest bettors on the planet! Epic to say the least. I couldn’t agree more. Anyone who thinks Notre Dame is winning a National Title has to be one of the dumbest people on the planet. And to wager on it? Just throw your money into the wind next time, you will have better luck. Ed Salmons everybody (PGA golf clap ensues).

I'll just quote the article to keep him from getting hits.

Its just because ND alums make so much more money than any other legit cfb alumni base that they can afford to fly out to Vegas and throw money around like crazy...........

The guys comments are off base. The comment above about the fan base being bigger is what it boils down to. If one of my friends is going to Vegas, I'll say "Yo, throw $20 down on the Skins to win the Super Bowl and I'll Pay you back when I see you." Do I think the Skins will win? Not really, so I'm not going to drop major cash on a fun bet. If they make a run then its more fun to watch.

I would like to see the breakdown of bet ranges. I'm sure a majority are small bets relative to the person's means. Alot of $5s and $10s and with the people who can afford more go as high as $100. It all quickly adds up. I highly doubt someone is dropping $10 g's on ND to win the BCS.

I wonder what his dumb a$$ was saying when VCU was about to make the National Championship game and Vegas was about to take a hit. They weren't calling out those bettors.

Why criticize a fan base who gives you "free" money?

From Bleacher Report:
Notre Dame
The 8-5 Irish return a whopping 10 offensive and nine defensive starters for 2011. Brian Kelly will finally have his first year behind him and has a Top 10 recruiting class to back him up.
Still, 20/1 odds to win the big burrito and a No. 14 preseason ESPN ranking, seriously? Is it yet another NBC backed Irish hype-wagon or is Notre Dame finally for real again?

Tell you what, let's prove them all wrong. If everyone on the IE board here will mail me $100, I will go to vegas and lay the bet on the Irish.......

Betting on the Cubs to win the World Series every year (I know plenty of people who do this) is far more idiotic than betting on ND to win it all, although both are not advised......

*However, picking favorites is dumber than a darkhorse or long shot for the average bettor ($100). Why sit on 100 bucks for a year when the return is only 100 bucks profit or less?

Ummm ... can you give me a graph of the bell curves for the incomes of all "legit cfb alumni" bases?

I'm curious as to just how much I "adjust" ND's chart.

Never been to Vegas – no interest. I spent three days, two nights in Reno back in 1980 on a youthful, crazy azz drive from Minneapolis to San Francisco and back. I was a happy camper. With enough winnings at the slots and blackjack I spent $35 overall. I drank and ate well.

I don't need to put gambling in Nevada on my Bucket List whether it's ND or the Mavs..

Top US Colleges — Graduate Salary Statistics

Not a bell curve, but a list of the starting and average median income by school. Notre Dame is very high for ANY school, not just BCS schools. That is one of their strong points for getting top students along with the alumni network (which kinda go hand in hand). Believe it or not, people don't go go ND for the football only.

If you look at his timeline, it's obvious why he feels this way. We were horrible on the field during most of that time period. The ND faithful is just that, faithful.
I am going to be in Vegas in a couple of weeks. Just in spite I am going to put some money on the Irish. F him.
Has anyone told him there's a new sheriff in town. The Irish are back!

For a few years after the Rams won the super bwol there was a guy in town who was riding in a brand new tricked out F-150 custom painted in Rams colors... on his back window it said,

"Paid for by the St Louis Rams"... and had the score of the super bowl... found out this dude had put something like 500 on the Rams just after Greene went down for the year and the odds on St Louis went south...

lucky. bastage.
