Shamrock Helmet for Michigan?

Is This The Helmet Notre Dame Will Wear In The Michigan Game? | May

Anyone think this is the actual helmet we'll be wearing? I know we're wearing a shamrock and throwback unis, but I really want them to look as modern as possible. This helmet to go a long with white jerseys with green numbers, then gold pants and green socks would be awesome.

Indeed, that would be sweet. I think a slightly smaller decal might look cooler on the helmets; but in general I love the look.

It's weird to think of that as a Notre Dame helmet, but it is really, really cool.

I would love this... next year throw in another variation... maybe against OU... you don't have to change the core uni to be able to have three to four different alts that appeal to the younger generation... and lets face it... every year that passes without a title the 'tradition' may become less and less important to recruits... not saying an alt. J or helmet will land a recruit, but I am saying any angle you can throw at them helps... and this generation seems to like this stuff....

I think it is a great idea for the shamrock on the helmet for the game, if that is the helmet, which i have a hard time believing (i think it is a high school helmet) im not liking the green facemask, thats just me, other than that it is cool.

I would love this... next year throw in another variation... maybe against OU... you don't have to change the core uni to be able to have three to four different alts that appeal to the younger generation... and lets face it... every year that passes without a title the 'tradition' may become less and less important to recruits... not saying an alt. I have not been a big fan of putting the shamrock on the helmet but if it will look like that I'm all for it! I really like the green face mask too.

1. I think I've seen that helmet at least over a year ago, so I doubt it's THE helmet we're wearing against Michigan.

2. I was under the impression that this was indeed a high school helmet.

3. Not that it rules it out completely, but if it was a Notre Dame helmet, it would probably say "Irish" on the white tab above the facemask.

4. Similar to above, the color is inconsistent with the gold the team has been wearing and which they will wear in 2011. Again, doesn't rule it out, but the sparkly gold seems like it's from a high school team.

5. We had some people complain that they didn't want a huge shamrock. Boy, this one is!!! I don't like the "fat shamrock" look like you see with this one. Interestingly, the Declan Sullivan shamrock was a lot like this...where the individual leafs don't thin out near the middle. The shamrock on the helmet in the late 50's did thin out, giving the appearance of three distinct leaves, instead of what we see here as more of one clover with three humps. I think if you actually looked at the difference between the two, people would prefer the thinner version.

6. The green facemasks wouldn't look terrible, but I don't think it's something I would prefer, and it would certainly not be a throwback look. The gray facemasks are subtly one of the great things about our helmets. With some few exceptions (Packers, Michigan, Penn State come to mind) colored facemasks don't look good.

Minor and maybe not a popular thought, but I have never liked ND uniforms that say "Irish." Notre Dame du Lac is French. I prefer to see ND or Notre Dame on the uniforms. Or even "du Lac".

Those look cheap. Notre Dame needs to avoid letting Adidas go the Nike "inspired by ____ and then we completely ruin them" route with these. I want them to be sharp, but I also want them to be classy as freak too.

Leave our helmets alone! An occasional use of a throwback jersey is fine, but even during the 100th anniversary of college football, ND (alone) refused to put the "100" decals on our helmets. God forbid we should prostitute ourselves like Oregon has.

Being the age of most of these kids who are being recruited, I can tell you that jerseys do actually mean something. With all of the new tighter fitting jerseys and "cooler" looking equipment a big aspect of the game is looking good now a days. While jerseys obviously will not and should not be the reason a kid commits to a school, they CAN play a large factor in kids choosing their favorite college football team when they are younger and therefore give that team the upper hand when/if that kid whose favorite team has sick unis starts getting recruited.

Beau-no I like the new stuff (jerseys are fine) its just the helmet man the helmet. Surely they can match 'em up like Lou's teams. The present gold is the same as Navy. Really that helmet is what caught the heart of many subway alums. Its an icon in that old gold color. The pre game painting deal is ok if they want to keep it but the helmet manuf should be able to get the gold brick look under the poly coat-it should sparkle. When McAfee 's team wore those unis the pants manuf could not do what they can do today and that was the best gold color the material would allow. Like I said I've taken this to far and sound like the PGA golf clothes critic here but give me the #@%$ gold helmet that the legend was built on.

Lol I probably wouldn't mind as long as the gold matches all the way through the uniform. Gold helmets made with real gold. I've always enjoyed boasting that fact to people...
