From Rivals:

Notre Dame assistant coach Mike Denbrock has been talking to Max Tuerk, finally made it out to Santa Margarita, Calif., and offered the 6-foot-6, 294-pound offensive tackle recently.

It was another big offer for Tuerk, who said over the summer he would love to take an unofficial visit to Notre Dame.

“I’ve been talking to coach Denbrock and I’ve been talking to him on Facebook a little bit, too,” Tuerk said. “We probably talk once or twice a week and they came up to my school and I sat down with him and talked to him and they offered me. I’m really excited about it.

“The tradition is big. He told me more than 99 percent of their athletes graduate and that’s a huge thing for me. That’s awesome in my book. It’s a great school and the football program has really great tradition.”

Tuerk, a member of the Rivals 250, has seen his recruitment take off this spring with offers coming in from all over the country.

So far, Arizona, Arizona State, Boise State, Cal, Colorado, Duke, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oregon, Oregon State, San Diego State, SMU, UCLA, Utah, Virginia and Washington have offered Tuerk, who said it’s still too early to narrow down his ever-growing list.

Last month, Tuerk took to the road and visited SMU, Colorado, Washington and Oregon but the Santa Margarita prospect said he’s nowhere near making a decision. Because so many programs are involved, Tuerk said he’s not even sure when he’ll be ready to commit.

“It’s tough now because all these new schools came in,” Tuerk said. “It’s going to be tough. I’m not really sure what my timetable is now. I have to sit down with my parents and my coaches and talk to them about my decision.”

Pretty cool. Looks like we're going to land four B+ OL this year and that makes me pretty happy. For linemen it's all about upside and development.

I like how we are using our high graduation rate for athletes as a selling point to this kid and other recruits. It's a good thing to have as a pitch when you are talking with some of these kids and their families.

That's our secret weapon. No other school in the country can touch ND for parent appeal.

We mention (1) our graduation rate for athletes (especially for minorities); (2) the value of a ND degree; (3) the fact that only 3% of DI football players get drafted; and (4) the fact that the average NFL career lasts only 3 years.

If ND offers your child, given the above argument, how do you let them go anywhere else?

I could not agree more. We are the only university that graduates I believe it is 99 percent of their players. That is untouchable by anyone. I know if I am a parent, I would want my kid to get a good education first and foremost, and you just can't go wrong with a degree from Notre Dame.

Per Scout:

Santa Margarita (Calif.) Catholic offensive tackle Max Tuerk received a verbal offer from Notre Dame last week, and it is a program he already knows about. Tuerk spoke to IrishEyes.com about the Irish, his priorities in his recruitment and much more.

Max Tuerk isn’t particular about the offense a program runs nor its location, but the Santa Margarita (Calif.) Catholic High offensive tackle has one thing ahead of everything else in picking a college.

Tuerk, who was offered by Notre Dame last week, wants to know what is going on in the classroom.

The main thing is the academics,” he said. “That’s my top priority, and then the football program, and my overall comfort level with the school, some off the coaches, and the people I’m going to be with for the next four or five years.

The Irish are recruiting the 6-foot-5, 290-pound Tuerk as a tackle, but he knows that may not be his position of the future. And he doesn’t mind.

“They’re recruiting at tackle, but they think I can play guard,” Tuerk said. “I can move down. I think I’m versatile.”

Since receiving the offer from Notre Dame, the Irish have shown plenty of interest in Tuerk. He said he speaks to assistant coach Mike Denbrock and Ed Warinner, and he is looking forward to getting an in-depth look at the school.

“Coach Warinner was at my school the other day,” Tuerk said, “and I’m going to try and get up there to take a visit this summer.”

During the spring, Tuerk visited SMU, Colorado, Washington, Oregon, USC and UCLA. In addition to visiting Notre Dame in the summer, he is contemplating a midwest swing to include Michigan and Nebraska.

But as an avid college football fan, Tuerk already knows a lot about Notre Dame.

“It’s got a great tradition, great academics, really good graduation rate,” Tuerk said. “The football team plays all the best teams in the nation. It’s a great place to be. They were always on t.v., and I turned them on whenever they were on.”

When he visits schools, he is looking for several things.

“The support staff, that’s a top thing,” Tuerk said. “Some of the coaches, my overall comfortable level, if I can fit in there. Style in my opinion …I don’t have a preference. I just want to play ball.”

Tuerk said he has not started to trim his list, and is not ready to list leaders.

Unless Stanford offers.....

I was thinking the exact same thing. after I saw academics were first on his list I immediately checked if Stanford offered him. Crazy how we now see Stanford as a major threat.

That's what winning on the field does for a team....don't worry we'll be there soon

College Football Recruiting On The Trail - ESPN

Says once USC offered that was it for him.

Loves the coaches-great school-tradition-a need for lineman.

Thinks he will be able to play early.

Sounds like how Taylor Decker was for us.

usc??? so much for academics!

USC is actually a pretty good academic school. Not that they can boast a player grad rate like Notre Dame, but they still can be considered towards the top of the academic world.

With the sanctions upheld, that leaves a lot of lineman from California for us. USC gets a good prospect here in Tuerk, but the door is wide open for us to move on some elite Cali talent.

Most of the schools have pretty good academics. They can get a meaningful degree, if the Coaching staff would allow it.

Just out of curiosity, since the condoms signed 45 kids this last cycle, just how many schollies do they have available for this class?

I don't know if anyone really knows. Someone said 9 other places say 15. I think we need to enlist a statistician to assist us.
