Reader column: Lifelong Notre Dame fan now cheers for Michigan | Detroit Free Press | freep.com
I just laughed and puked at the same time...
I "luked."
These are poor and terrible excuses to break allegiance. It's people like that guy that would have saluted Germany, just so he and his sons could have had great times together.
He's teaching his sons a lack of loyalty.
Good job, dad...
I have been a Notre Dame fan my whole life, and I have taken a lot of heat because of it.
I am about to do something I never thought would happen: root for the Wolverines. I have put a lot of thought and soul searching into this decision, and the deciding factor was my two sons.
My first little nudge to the other side was the fact that as a fan, I feel like Notre Dame keeps snubbing the Big 10, which in my opinion, is the best conference in college football.
The second reason is that I had an opportunity to go to the Big House and watch the Wolverines play the Hawkeyes. What a great experience!
The final reason is my two sons. I would like to be able to share these kind of experiences with them as they get older, and since the Big House is close to where I live, that would be possible.
As a college football fan, I have always respected the Michigan progra, and I have also been a fan of certain players. In my opinion, Jarrett Irons will always be the standard by which future Wolverine linebackers will be measured, but that's another column altogether.
Maybe the transition to cheering on the Wolverines won't be that difficult after all.
