This is pretty cool...I like the comment where some one says "Soccer will never catch on in America."

YouTube - Timbers FC Home Opener National Anthem

I watched that game on ESPN,... that crowd was unreal... all game I just kept saying to my wife "This is like a freakin Celtic game... listen to that crowd!"

Late in the game they sang "I can't help falling in love with you."... good as song as any I guess... looks like Timbers fans are making it their own...

the recipe for success in the MLS that they have been using is a good one in my opinion... just follow this plan and they should do well in the future... pay slightly more than the other North and Central American leagues so you keep all local stars not good enough to crack Europe in the US without breaking the league... DO NOT OVER EXPAND... they shouldn't expand any further imo... continue getting more and more games on TV... and host the league in better venues that fans want to go to (they have done great with this in the past five years or so and the league has been grwoing quite well) when the league started these venues weren't good for MLS games to say the least... bottom line is a lot of fans that go to these games are either ethnically tied to this game more or they are America fans who are just sick of basketball, football, baseball and want something different... a soccer game is something legit that you can really get into that is also quite different from anything in the norm over here... I think that is a big draw... almost like a sports counter culture.

Another thing that soccer has going for it, especially in today's day and age, is that it is a 2 hr event (if that) and that's it. You get 90+ minutes of soccer, and half-time, and you're done. Whereas baseball is 3 + hours long (and not a lot of action, and this is coming from someone who used to LOVE baseball), football is 3 and a half hrs long, and the last 3 minutes of a basketball game is 3 hrs long.

With soccer, you're in and you're out, there's tons of action (if that's the type of action you like - non-scoring action), watching it on TV there aren't commercial breaks during game action, etc etc. I love going to Galaxy games (even though the soccer isn't very attractive in comparison to mis espana equipos) because the crowd is lively if you sit in the right spots, you're in and out in a decent amount of time, and you're SUPPOSED to be loud no matter where you sit (as opposed to Laker games where if you have decent seats no one says a word until the 4th quarter).

Soccer has a LOT going for it. While I don't think it will ever catch the top sports in this country, there is definitely a growing market for it in the U.S.

What the h3ll was Eboue thinking?!?!?! I really don't understand why the first 2 men off the field for Arsenal are Wilshere and Walcott and not Diaby and Eboue. That's the season...whatever fleeting hope Arsenal had for a run at the title is gone and another championship for Man U that will silence the Glazer critics for about a day.

The end of that game reminded me sooooo much of Butler vs. Pittsburgh in the second round of the NCAA playoffs. The better team gets bailed out by a foul and looks like they've got the win locked up.... only to lose the game on an idiotic series of events.

Small point, they didn't lose

The Gunners laid an egg again today. It's got to be frustrating being an Arsenal fan.

Keeper for Madrid was on point. Saved at least 3 goals in the second half. Barca will get them back in the CL though!!!! Plus, La Liga is already wrapped up. Copa Del Rey is the one that I would want to lose if I had to choose one.

Arsenal had every chance to win the last 2 and give United a run for their money, but couldn't do it.

If they happen to win the head to head match in a few weeks, they are gonna be kicking themselves for tying those last 2.

Man I can't believe Barca lost :( :( :(

well, the special one does surely know how to game plan. i'm not a particular fan of either team (although i think barca plays a beautiful game), but i do like how jose has his boys playing great in the midfield with pressure at the point of attack.

jose's one of my favorite managers.

agreed, copa del rey is the one i'd choose too. champions league is so big, and better to prepare for. although, i don't think barca is going to take it. rm is playing with a good rythm defenisvely. pepe is a workhorse.

Well, a win would have been better but with a 0-0 result Celtic is still in the driving seat. Win your last four or result the same as Rangers and the title comes home.

I think we're missing a big point here. Arsenal lost, almost eliminating them from title contention. Down 9 points with 4 games left. Feels good to be a United fan. haha

If I can make a Chris Rock quote my own...rooting for Man United is like rooting for Bill Gates to win the lottery.

If not for Neuer, Shalke would be down at least 3-0. That guy is a beast and I would love for United to sign him up to replace van der Sar. Still 0-0 though.

Shalke is just getting Man U comfortable before dropping the 5-0 hammer back in England.........

Neuer player awesome today. He's going to go for a serious transfer fee in the summer for sure. One of the beat keepers in the world, I'd say.

I think United all but sealed their spot at Wembley though. Can't see them losing their 2-0 lead at home.

Can't wait for the game tomorrow!
