If ND somehow managed to get Barry Sanders Jr.

My head would literally implode.

That is the only way I could describe my reaction.

We have less than a 5% chance at Sanders. He is going to Ok St, FSU, or Bama. Write it down.

Doesn't Arik Armstead have an offer too? I know he's committed to USC, but I'm pretty sure the staff offered him a while back.

Don't need the Nose is this years class. Next years, yes. But if we get a Nose now, he'll have three years to sit and wait behind Nix... that's a lot of eligability.

I look for a very slow developing class this year with a higher talent level. We have fewer spots and a little more depth so this should allow us to concentrate on some big fish. If we land a class along the lines of what Florida did this year, I would be very satisfied. They landed a high quality class with only 17 available slots. I would like to see:

0 QB
2 RB
2-3 WR
1 TE
4 OL
2 DE
1 DT
2 LB
3-4 DB

Big players in this class (that have early ND interest) in my opinion:

G. Kiel
A. Darboh
K. Marshall
R. Darby
T. Schutt
Z. Banner
S. Callahan
N. Spence

First off, BK said he's going to get a QB in every class. period. Look for that to be Gunner Kiel.

As of today, and likely without any changes until May or June, our roster consists of:
23 incoming Freshman
19 Sophomores
15 Juniors
22 Seniors
6 5th years
Add all that up for a total of 85 scholarship players (the NCAA limit...feels good to say).

2012 Season
Without any early departures for the NFL (Teo), Mormon missions (Schwenke, Utopo), transfers (one of the QBs), or injuries (?) we will have the same roster spots by class but now:

23 Sophomores
19 Juniors
15 Seniors
Add these up for a total of 57 scholarship players

14 5th year eligible players also available: Crist, Walker, Goodman, Cave, Golic Jr, Clelland, KLM, Hafis Williams, Cwynar, Newman, Posluszny, McDonald, McCarthy, and Slaughter.

Due to a small senior class and the talent of these possible 5th year players, I believe we will take at least half (I can see as many as the 8 previously highlighted plus McDonald if Teo leaves).

57+8=65

That would leave 20 spots for the 2012 recruiting class.

1 QB
1 RB
1 RB/slot WR
2 WR
1 TE
3 OL
1 DE
1 NG
2 OLB
2 ILB
2 CB
3 S

With priorities as Kelly stated, defensive backfield and play makers on offense (S/CB/NG/OL/RB/WR/QB) plus linemen as always.

Expect a defection or two to occur between May '11 and shortly after the bowl game in January '12. We will sign at least 20 recruits this cycle.

What about these local talents getting offers:

WR Gehrig Dieter - Cannot write about local talents without mentioning this kid, 6-3/210
WR David Perkins - Teammate of Dieter at Washington HS in South Bend, 6-2/210/4.43
OL Sid Anvoots - Teammate of Nick Martin at Bishop Chatard HS in Indy, 6-5/275
OL Dan Voltz - Hails from Barrington a suburb of Chicago, 6-4/290
(OL Jordan Diamond and DT Tommy Schutt already have offers from the Chicago area)
DT Vincent Valentine - Another Illinois kid in a suburb of St. Louis 6-4/300
DT Dan O'Brien - From Flint Michigan, 6-3/275
OL Ben Braden - Hails from Rockford a suburb of Grand Rapids, 6-6/280
OL Joe Manley - From Bowling Green Kentucky, 6-6/305
QB Zeke Pike - A familiar name from Ft Mitchell Kentucky

Here come some good battles with Ohio St.
DE Adolphus Washington, Cincinnati - Taft HS, 6-6/240
DE Chris Wormley, Toledo, 6-5/250
DE Greg McMullen, Akron, 6-5/260
DE Tom Strobel, Mentor, 6-6/240
OLB Se'Von Pittman, Canton, 6-4/225
OLB LaTroy Lewis, Akron, 6-4/230
S Bam Bradley, Trotwood, 6-1/195
S DaShawn Hall, Canton, 6-2/200
S Allen Gant, Sylvania, 6-2/200
CB Devan Bogard, Cleveland, 6-1/175
OL Taylor Decker, Vandalia, 6-8/270
OL Anthony Stanko, Warren, 6-5/300

Look at these recruits measurables. Scout has these guys as the early big names in the area as 4 stars and high 3 stars. Ohio is loaded with talent. Hopefully we can pick a few off from Tressel.
