I felt there was foreshadowing. And now it is confirmed...

I'm glad he's Irish!

He has the potential to be a stud, all the raw ingredients are there... Some guys develop later on in their career. From my experience with sport, I know that guys that are studs at 17-18 aren't always as dominant at 20 years old, and the other way around is also true. We have to remember that we are in fact dealing with teenagers not grown man. We tend to treat college scouting like the nfl draft when we shouldn't. I think that was the biggest mistake Weis did. That's why I put very little time into the star rating system.

What is very encouraging to me here is that we know Brian Kelly is one of the best motivator and developer of young men in the country. The guy knows when he sees a talent he can work with or not.

Kelly and Diaco had to smell the Tuitt thing coming. Hounshell, thank goodness, is a really good addition. Remembering that he was recruited early by bigtime programs, coaches who know what they're doing had to see something exceptional in this athlete.

Which is why it's so weird that the recruiting services are so low on him.

Which is why I believe the most definitive sign of a recruits true worth, talent, grade, etc. is the offers he has and the teams recruiting him hardest.

Interesting article in yesterday's IrishSportsReport on Hounshell long road to ND. UF recruited him as an OL. Lemming is quoted as having Hounshell as a 4 star athlete who has "All-American" potential as an OL but will start out at ND as a DE.

Last week when they visited him UF brought the OL coach which is interesting if he doesn't want to play on the OLine. ND didn't offer Hounshell until after Lynch decommitted so contrary to innudendo on the board he wasn't thought of Tuitt's replacement. Hounshell had pursued an Irish offer without success until Lynch's departure - and Prestwood's, an OT. WIth all the hoopla over Tuitt and Lynch, Prestwood may actually have been the prime factor in ND offering Hounshell. ND offered a bunch of OTs, a big need, and looked solid in October with Prestwood and Hegarty.

What I'm getting out of our defensive line recruiting is that the staff is trying to find someone to help fill in for ethan johnson after next year. The run stuffing 3 tech. that can get penetration and disrupt the run game. They're bringing atleast three guys to give them a shot (Carrico, Springmann, and Hounshell) The guy or guys that don't pan out will shift to offense with no harm done. Just my two cents.

Some film:

I know this word is overused here, but he looks like a beast blocking in the run game. Only recall one highlight of him pass blocking and he just flattened the kid, but didn't see much pass blocking technique here so who knows where he is with that. Still, he is absolutely relentless in the run game and clearly has a nice mean streak. If he ends up on the OL I would not be displeased.

I tend to agree.. however, I wish one would just step up and become a lineman by choice.. put in the extra work/strength and conditioning program the minute he steps on campus.. I hope they don't waste a season on em preparing them for defense then switch them to offense.. it might not be as big of a shift as I'm talking about, but still, I see the benefits of starting them out at a position and keeping them there outweighing the benefits of switching positions.. just my 2 cents as well

How are ppl fat? Its impossible to gain weight #need20lbs

I follow Chase on twitter, and this kid literally tweets about working out and eating right non-stop. Makes it sound like he spends 4 hours a day at the gym. Conor Hanratty and Davaris Daniels are similar. He seems to really have his head on straight and is motivated to work hard and make the most out of what God gave him. I have high hopes for Chase at ND.

What an 180 degree turnaround from UF lean and tweeting notre lame to hard working recruit that I feel is the sleeper in the class!! It just shows that they still are just 17-18 year old young men, who make mistakes!!
Go Irish and Go Chase, I'm rooting for you

Ill admit ...I did not like this kid at first. However I to have had a change of heart.

But me in that boat. I just hope his talent matches his work ethic... because he sure seems to be talking the talk right now and that bodes well for someone who isn't even in college yet.

Reminds me of Ryan Harris from years ago who didn't have NFL talent but worked his butt off from HS onward and ended up being a starter on the OL.

If he could even have an impact on the DL similar to Sean Cwyner I would be very happy. My favorite players are the ones with non-stop motors, and it just seems like we are getting more and more of them recently. It's part of the reason why Lynch will be such a monster - not only is he supremely talented, but he is absolutely relentless as well. A frightening combination for QBs and RBs.

Good point, IMO passion is such a big part of the game and you cant teach that....I have a feelingn that his kid is going in be a interior DL, and a nasty one.

Hounshell is going to be a real good player no matter what position he plays. Go watch his high school tape; the kid has talent, is relentless and is a beast!
