2012?

...........DOG- Councell
DE- Lynch
...........MLB- Te'o
NG- Nix
...........MLB- Calabrese
DE- Tuitt
...CAT- Williams

That looks just nasty....You know Tuitt and Lynch are gonna put on some serious weight and be great off the end. And Ishaq is the kinda guy that, with his frame, who knows? He's so long and athletic, he could end up playing some end. I think he's going to be a very good player for ND.

Oh I hope so too.....I just don't know if that will be the case
I'm expecting it not to be...but I'll be more than happy to see the running game used heavily and have the clock controlled...

I feel that the depth should be there on the defensive side of the ball to manage though

If we can keep a back healthy and get some consistant play outta that postition...then I can see use running the ball.

Rasaba (who will be cat), Kendall Moore (who the coaches are high on), etc., . . . .

Notre Dame will be able to platoon two entire front seven's, without an appreciable drop off in ability. I will start a thread this weekend.

This touches the most important issue to 2011 success, that I haven't heard anyone discuss yet.

I've posted sharing the same opinion. Most of our positions along the line/LB's are going to be labeled as 1a/1b. We are going to have fresh legs in the fourth quarter while the opposing offense is huffing and puffing. It's going to pay of when we meet a SEC team in a bowl somewhere down the line.

lol our offense may be more tired then our defense late in game's, especially if BK's offense clicks like it did in Cinci.

BK's got a vision, and he's running with it.

I think BK is building a well balanced team that will beable to kick your *** by exploiting both your weakness, and strength's. If we meet a team that has a awesome pass defense, BK will have his Block Op's teams in to slash and gash the offense, and his tank to pound the line's. If we meet a team with a monster run defense he'll attack at all cylinders through the air.

His playbook will be so deep that opposing coaches will not know what to prepare for, or whats coming. He'll have the depth/scheme to knock a team out so many different ways.

I think BK's system evolved from the time he was at Cinci, while it will hold a resemblance, I think it is going to be much more balanced, and dangerous at ND because of the resources he has.

I agree, but it seems we haven't found a consistant running game. We need a guy, like a huggins, that can run the football. BK's offense is great, but you have to be able to run the football. Late in games, with leads, that's where the running game comes into play. ND has had trouble finishing, and I believe alot has to do with a lack of running attack. You have no buisness throwing the ball in the 4th quarter with a good lead. In the spread offense, you HAVE TO have an effective running game. If not, there is too much pressure on your QB, which leads to dumb throws and turnovers. FYI- Hughes is gone, and who knows about Allen. And Wood is either a home run, or negative play. That's not consistancy at all.

Where does Shembo fit in?

Can we give some love to Kona, Shembo, Utupo and the rest?

...the D will be on the field more than enough for EVERYONE to get solid PT

The individual talent of the new defensive recruits is really something to be excited about. Another thing also to be excited about is that almost over night ND has depth on defense, at least in the front 7, and that is huge! Being able to platoon those talented big guys in and out to keep them fresh, and to keep the pressure on an offense, is going to be big especially at the end of games.

With the guys already on the roster, and the influx of the new recruits, Notre Dame will have sustained defensive pressure backed up with talent and depth.

Then grind it out with a punishing ground game. Make the opposing team 'feel the pain'!

This is the pitch I would give to Savon Huggins. I know the consensus was that Amir was a better fit for BK's offense, and he is the type of back that would help this team build leads. But Savon's contribution would be just as valuable. I would love for us to have a "closer" type of back that you can just pound down someone's throat while you're sitting on a two score lead late in the third quarter, demoralizing the opponent as you slowly and steadily drive down the field for the back-braking score. That is why I REALLY want Huggins. He seems great for that role.

The next order of business - the next "influx of new recruits" - should be in the secondary. I think we have some talented pieces there right now, but the first order of business for the '12 class should be to add depth to that unit the way we added depth to the front seven with this class. If ND has a BCS-type of year, it should really put us in great position to do that.

Re: the secondary. Kelly is a classic "fill each position" guy when you look at general recruiting overview. Last Year, like almost all transition years, was tough on him. Still, he recruited four players for DB [Wood, Badger, Spencer...forgive me young man, I forget your last name at the moment...old age, and Roback]. One transferred for understandable reasons; one decided with our depth at safety, to take his mission; one transferred to try to play QB elsewhere.

This left us with good vets, but only Lo Wood as a youngster. Kelly, not being blind, assessed this and decided to go a little heavy on DBs this year. He got commitments from five, most of whom seemed versatile. Not to overdue it, he stopped there. For next year, he will go back to position-filling. And he knows that he has Badger returning as a full-grown man, physically and personally. Counting Badger as ONE, I look for Kelly to shoot for three more---and beyond that only if he assesses his current crop as weak.

Kelly has done this same reasoning/planning everywhere on the roster I believe. He let NT go this year, in my opinion, due to his confidence in Nix, and apparently Stockton, as well as poor choices "out there" available. He may want to double-fill there next year. Look also at the combination of the O+D lines. He should have recruited 5+3=8. Hegarty, Martin, Hanratty, Carrico, Springmann, Lynch, Hounshell, Tuitt. Note that he has recruited versatility in that group, where three could easily be seen flipping one way or the other. Last year he did what he could in a difficult recruiting situation: James, Lombard, Nichols, Schwenke, Utopu, Nix, and with fingers crossed, Heggie]. Still he fell one short, and with Matt James' death, two. Thus the press to get at least five potential O-linemen this year.

He was heavy on wide receivers last year [TJ, Bennett, Daniel, Austin]. This year:two [Daniels, Atkinson]. Should add up to six [three positions times two] for the two years. This is the year-to-year best strategy. Once you've got "coverage", you can add supermen at the last minute as they become available. I think the man's a classic strategist.

I think Kendall Moore takes the LB position away from Carlo before 2012.

Anyone who thinks KLM will just roll over and let Lynch ir Tuitt take his spot is crazy. I still see KLM starting but lets not forget how often BK cycles in fresh legs on the defensive side of the ball. Tuitt and Lynch will get their time.
