It's nice to go to the games year in year out but to me "sometimes" I'd rather watch the game on TV... Instant replay, A/C, cheer as loud as you want, throw stuff at the walls, and more importantly able to drink as much as you want....

Just wondering what you other fellow Irishmen/ladies think...

Going to the game. Nothing beats cheering for your favorite team with 80,000 other fans.

Nothing beats the excitment of being at the game....the buzz around the staduim...last year I almost ran over Digger on my bike

I made it to 6 different stadiums last year and going to try to make it to 8 this year.

Mick2 we live identical lives on saturdays in the fall.

I've never been to a game (working on it) so I'm just accustomed to my Saturday fall routine.

9:30 am: breakfast

10:00 am: college gameday

12:00: lunch

12:30: shower

1230-230: pre game prep

2:30: countdown to kickoff on nbc.com

3:00: food and beer runs

3:30: let the madness begin

Yep that looks about right:wink:

gotta have my college gameday! it reminds me of a when i was a little kid waking up on saturdays to watch my saturday morning cartoons.

The only thing thats different is that i dont eat lunch in order to save space to stuff my mug before during and after the game!

sometimes we'll head out to Paddymac's irish pub and meetup with the nd club for their gamewatch. that is a great way to watch as well.

hammond and hayden do a decent job but i wouldnt mind Steve beurline? i think thats how its spelt.

my preference, go to the game, record it, watch it again later.

thats exactly what we do......

nothing like getting out there and tailgating at 8am....

start the day with some bloody mary's...beer drinking starts at 930 and then the walk to Belmont at 11....

oh boy......i'm so excited i just may go out there today and pretend its gameday....

I'm studying abroad this fall in France and will miss the first home game I've missed in three years. Watching the games live on nbc.com will have me up from midnight to 4AM on Sunday mornings. We'll see how that works out.

Love to go to games but also ...

Love my bathroom, my refrigerator, my couch, brats on my grill, my instant replay, watching the game with Hammond silenced whiles getting the audio on radio, and saving the $1500 or so for Mrs. BGIF and himself to fly, board, eat, and libate for a game weekend.

At home I don't miss the alcohol cops, restricted tailgating, ND ushers, and the putz a few rows behind me that won't cheer but can yell "DOWN IN FRONT" for 4 quarters.

Going to the game is better because its not often i can go. Usually only have an opportunity to go to one game a year. My buddy and his family have UCLA season tickets so i'll go with them if it doesnt interfere with my Irish.

Going to the games is always amazing! I try and go to as many as I can. But while I'm at school my saturdays are just as awesome.

Whenever I'm at school and not traveling to a game somewhere, my house usually just buys a keg or 2 and all of our friends comeover at the butt crack of dawn and we start cooking breakfast, play some bp and corn hole and then watch football all day. Granted we go to Xavier and we don't have a football team so the day is interestng bc not eveyone is an ND fan. We have OSU fans UC fans and whoever else comes over to our house. My roommates and I saved our money and we collectively bought a gorgeous LG HD projector that allows us to watch football all day on our 100 in screen! Saturdays are what i look forward too every week no matter if I get to go to a game somewhere or if I am staying home.

I agree with all of you that would rather watch the games at home. 3 things changed the way I view going to live ball games:

1. Big screens and HD TV. 'Nuff said.

2. The last Dodger game I went to, on my birthday 2 years ago, we tailgated at a park right outside the stadium. Then we decided to drive the car to the parking lot and finish our last 2 beers there. 4 guys, 3 of them teachers, chilling outside the park drinking a beer, enjoying life. Then the undercover cops roll up on us and give us 4 fucking drinking tix, $80 each. Meanwhile, gangsters and lowlifes are all around us drinking and smoking and laughing, but we get busted. Unreal. I will never give another dime to the Dodgers (I'm an Angels fan anyways LOL).

3. My brother has 4 season tix to the Lakers, 4 rows behind the Lakers bench. Before the economy went bad, he used to invite me to about 10 games a year. Sitting that close got me beyond spoiled. I mean, Kobe's wife was 2 rows in front of us, and even Leonardo Dicaprio and Giselle sat one row in front of us once (back in the day, now he's courtside). Since I'm po' folk, I'd have to by tix up in the rafters, and there's no way I'm watching a game that far anymore. Too f'ing spoiled!

*****But going to a ND game is different. My in-laws live there, so we have room and board and tix to any game. My lady graduated from ND and knows people, so we always have a tailgate to go to. Her parents drop us off, I get trashed with good booze and good eats, and then we get to enter that gorgeous stadium. There's nothing quite like that stadium on a beautiful fall day. It's a must see for any ND with the means to do it. Yeah, the plane tix are expensive but it's worth it. I'm going to the USC game, and I can't friggin' wait!!!

DVR, Slingbox, NBC videos with no commericals. Record it and watch it at your leisure. It's not like your going to walk into a boulangerie and somebody going to shout out the score before you watch it.

Of course there's also IrishEnvy's chatroom (is it working?) where you can catch up on the instantaneous weeping and gnashing of teeth over Kamara dropping a pass (quel dommage!), Clausen throwing a rope into triple coverage (mon Dieu), Aldridge scoring 3 TDs at FB opening day (Merde! What the hell is wrong with Weis? Aldridge should have been a FB 3 years ago! Offensive genius my butt!).

JPham...couldn't pick the spring semester to go to france? You're a better man than I. Good luck over there.

In regards to hayden and hammond...it's not their superb analysis, it's not their personalities, it's just hearing their voices announce ND games for this long (and being 23) it's all I know. It's more out of habit than anything.

It'd be like turning sportscenter on for a sunday night and listening to someone other than chris berman doing the higlhights. it's natural.

if hayden and/ or hammond were replaced i'd love to see troy aikman go to nbc. i'm obviously a Birds fan but he's right down the middle and knows his stuff. he's great on fox

Wake up at 4:20 am and smoke weed

Go back to sleep

Wake up again at 7:00 am and eat a VERY large breakfast

8:00 am Usually go out fly fishing and smoke more weed

9:00 am Still fishing

10:00 am Still fishing

11:00 am Usually back home by then watching College Football coverage

12:00 pm Get high as hell and eat a VERY large lunch

After eating lunch I pass out from all the food and smoke and wake up JUST before the game starts and smoke more.

During the game most of the time, (at least the last 2 years) I'm calling Charlie Weis some not nice words and smoking more.

And when Notre Dame scores touchdowns which isnt very often, I may just smoke some more.

After the game win or lose I smoke more weed. Then I actually read books or fly fish or tie flies or do my photography the rest of the weekend.

HAPPY SMOKING!

NDOM - I wish I could watch every game with you. With your weed and my culinary delights I have at every game, it would be a blast. I don't like to smoke during the game, though. Makes me too apathetic and passive. I prefer tequila. Gets the blood boiling a little more. I like to be right on the razor's edge between avid fan and crazed lunatic.

If I could go to the games at ND on a regular basis, it would be a different story because, as many have stated already, it is too special of an experience to pass up. However, as far as California games go, I would much rather watch it in the comfort (and relative safety) of my own home than go to the Coliseum. Not only is the Coliseum full of douche bag SC fans, but it is not a great place to see a game. I do go to Palo Alto, mostly because the game is a great excuse to go to Napa for Thanksgiving weekend.

almost forgot:

i usually watch games by myself or only those i trust. hate it when people think ND games are friggin social and talky time.

5 minutes before kickoff and thereafter, don't talk to me, don't call me, don't walk in front of the tv, and don't touch the remote.

I lived with a guy and 2 girls last year, none were ND fans. these 3 thought it was OK to sit there during the games and talk about all the dumb shit we did the night before. NO. the irish are on. quiet. when things go well, i'll do the numa numa. when things go bad, i'll show it.

damn. life is tough.

Hammond: I don't mind him. Too much make up. Liked his excitement when Shark scored last td against UCLA.

Haden: tries to get too neutral sometimes and begins to sound anti ND. But otherwise OK.

Going to the game: Can't beat the majesty of the event and the buildup. Semi consciousness throughout game though.

Watching at home: Depends. Alone? Total focus on technique. With family friends? Fun and allowed to scream at will. With mixed crowd? Fun, because you can attempt to ruin opposers' life for the rest of his her life.

Watching at sports bar? Fun to see other closet domers come out, but no fun to miss out on big boobied waitress.

I go to about a game a year due to free tickets, but I'm looking forward to TV, since we have a new big screen with HD service now!
