How is this kid so far down on the ratings. NR on Rivals, Scout has him at a 3 star. He is one of the top two players on one of the best teams in one of the hardest leagues in Texas. Ya know Texas, a hot bed of football talent. It's a bit ridiculous. Had he committed to Texas or something he'd be a high 4 star at the least.

He is White. The same reason why everyone on here isn't on his nuts.

I think he is not ranked very high because of the fact that he is so similar to sam mcguffie. Mcguffie was a smaller white back from texas with a very similar skill set and was a major flop at UM and eventually transferred to Rice. Mcguffie was a highly touted 4 star

Lets compare this kid to someone....Danny Woodhead. Had to make sure he was white. I'll take a Danny Woodhead over a Amir Carlisle any day.

A flop at Michigan, did you see him play there? He torched us and there o line was not great. He looked to be bringing them back just as Denard did this year. Just nobody to play with, then got homesick and moved closer to his family.

I second that. Rushed for 131 and caught 47 against us in 08. If Cam is the second coming of McGuffie we all should be stoked!

Lets compare Amir Carlisle to an NFL player.... LeSean McCoy. Good slash back and great hands out of the backfield. I'll take LeSean McCoy over Cam McDaniel any day.

Very unrealistic.

Thats an awful comparison. LeSean McCoy was probably 25 pounds heavier than Amir Carlisle coming out of high school. Amir Carlisle reminds me more of Armando Allen than LeSean McCoy. To me LeSean McCoy looked a lot more filled out than Amir. I'm sorry I forgot you know all and that since you believe Amir is a better prospect than Cam then we should all believe the same.

Let me preface this with the comment that I like Amir and would have loved to have him Irish.

But some of you guys are giving this kid WAAAYYY too much love. McCoy, Really? McCoy was a 5 star, 200 pound back that Scout ranked as the fifth best rb in his class. Let's not crown a 4 star kid as the next coming of McCoy before he even steps onto a college football field.

I like the way you think. Also I forget how McCoy ended up landing with Pitt I thought he originally was a Miami verbal.

Could we please constrict comments about Cam McDaniel to positive supporting ones [which he deserves] and leave the debatable attributes of Amir Carlisle to the appropriate thread?? Cam McDaniel is our guy. He verballed to us. He likes us. We should be liking him. Amir Carlisle seems to be a wonderful player; could that be said without slamming Cam McDaniel, who, in Kelly's mind is also a wonderful player?? Cam, if you are reading this: I for one LOVE that you are coming to ND, and next to big Stephon, are my favorite guy in a class full of favorites. Welcome again to our family.

Sorry for getting off topic, I was trying to defend Cam as he is probably my favorite recruit as well. Seems to be a competitor with a big heart. Gotta love those two attributes.

Im sorry I didn't realize we were basing comparisons soely on measurables. Hows this work:

Chris Johnson's current height and weight: 5'11''- 190
Amir Carlisle's current height and weight: 5'11- 185

Is that close enough for your comparison? I'll still take Chris Johnson over Danny Woodhead and Cam McDaniel.

My point is that you are doing what every homer fan does. Just like everyone did with Aaron Lynch when he decommited, "Notre Dame is better off without him anyway." Thats clearly not the case but is thrown out there to ease the pain of a player choosing a different school. It's ok to miss on a desired player and be disapointed. Amir Carlisle is a great player and would have been a great player in this system. Is he a worse player for USC than he would have been for ND?

Its not all about what I believe and I'm not trying to convince you that Amir is a better prosepct than Cam. It's the opinion of myself and every scouting agency known to man. Texas is a very prominant highschool football state and produces solid to elite talent every year. ESPN, Scout, and Rivals show the state of Texas and its athletes plenty of love so if Cam was a better prospect than Amir it would show up. That's not the case. Amir is a loss for ND and it would be recognized a lot more if we didn't just recieve verbals from Ishaq and Aaron.

With the way he runs and catches the ball out of the backfield I feel comfortable saying that Cam could be the break out star of this class in about 5 years. I'm thinking Tomlinson.
Size wise they are very close I think LT came out of HS at 5'11" 195 and the only 40 time I can find was at the combine at 4.38.
Agree disagree

Of course Amir is a 4* and Cam is a 3*. But i believe that he will work hard and become a 4* player.

Comparing Amir to Johnson made me chuckle. The sarcasm didnt go over my head.

fwiw - scout compared him to Jahvid Best. Which I think is more accurate if not still an overcomparison. My opinion of Amir has always been the same, even before he committed to USC. There was no sour grapes-opinion flip coming from me.

Cam. Welcome to Notre Dame young man. I think you are a competitor and someone with a chip on his shoulder. You should contribute to special teams early and will compete as a starter in the future. I like your style, dude.

I'm glad someone is on top of things here. Comparing any highschool athlete to an NFL starter is unrealistic.

All things considered, from what I can see from limited video on Cam, he looks stout. Very well put together young man with a great attitude in interviews. He has good speed in the open field and is not afraid to drop his shoulder and finish a run. In the backfield or in the slot, this kid could provide a spark to this offense. We could also thank him for Bennett Okotcha. Opening a pipeline anywhere in the state of Texas would be solid.

I agree and think Cam is our most under rated player by far, out of all of his strengths I like his vision in traffic on the field. He moves thru traffic on the field without hesitation or los of speed, it's something that isn't easy to teach.

Don't think we really want to go down this road....

Please explain to me why you think Savon is so much better than Cam or how they are not even close. I think the repeatedly seeing comments like that are very irritating. If someone would tell me that we just signed the fastest shuttle time running back in high school history I would not make comments like that, considering how he performed at his level of competition as well.

I think people are sleeping on Cam. Seems like he is the exact type that could exceed his "ranking". Whether he is better than Savon at this point, I doubt that many scouts could be that wrong. But what they are at this point is not really important. I wouldn't be surprised if Cam is one of those "fan favorite" types and has a pretty good college career by the time it is all said and done.

Alright guys... time for some clarity:

Savon Huggins, Amir Carlisle and Cam McDaniel all have very different games. Arguing who is "better" is completely asinine... and it's even more crazy to do so before they have ever stepped on the college practice field.

What I will say in defense of Cam is that white RBs are both rare and consistently underrated by recruiting services when you consider measureables and stats. No prospect is ever a slam dunk, but Cam McDaniel has the measureables, stats and game film to be at least a low 4*... but somehow on rivals he isn't even one of the 55 ranked RBs. To illustrate my point, not one of the ranked RBs on rivals is white... but BK chose to offer a guy like Cam over a guy like Remound. Remound was a 4* (#17) from Indiana and considered a heavy Notre Dame lean but never got an offer despite visiting many times and is on his way west to Stanford. Obviously, there is something there that the coaches like.

Does Cam have the same potential as Savon to be an every down feature back? No, not really. But they both have potential to be very effective contributors at the next level and I would be shocked if Cam does not have a big play or two before his time in South Bend is done.

Call me greedy, but I'm going to hope for more than 1 or 2 big plays out of em. Eitherway, i'm glad to have him, I think he can help out the team and most importantly he seems to really want to be a part of the program for all the right reasons.
