Good for him. I'm glad to see that a kid talked about academics being important and then actually going to a top notch academic school.

Turns out Florida was not even in the picture. Kid is his HS valedictorian. With a GPA around 4.7 4.8 and builds robots for fun. His decision was based entirely on academics. Wish he was here.

He seems like a level-headed and smart kid, he will excel at Stanford.

Can't fault him in any aspect for that choice. Best of luck, Wayne.

Michigan boards are in meltdown mode. They cannot believe that Wayne Lyons would choose coachless Stanford over coachless Michigan.

They also missed out on another big recruit. Their recruiting class is a disaster. I love it.

The bad thing about this is we will have to face him the next couple years.

Good for him though, wish more recruits went about the process like he did.

I thought he looked really good during the game today too. I'm bummed that we missed out on him, but I have a ton of respect for this kid and wish him the best!!!

Glad he isn't at UM.

Apparently its all said and done now. Harbaugh hired his mom as "Director of Player Development", she referred to it on twitter as "team mom".

Stanford CB Wayne Lyons coming? Mom has U-M football job

By Mark Snyder, Detroit Free Press 8:03 a.m. EST February 6, 2015

It appears Stanford cornerback Wayne Lyons is headed to play his fifth year for the Wolverines.

Though he hasn't said anything publicly, his mother, Gwendolyn Bush, is apparently U-M football's new director of player development.

That's her title listed in the school directory and what she shared on Twitter.

In a few tweets she thanked a coach of a seven-on-seven team in Florida for his congratulations on the job.

Congratulations to SFE team mom @gdbush24!!! Director of player development at Univ. Of Michigan!! So happy for you! We will miss you!

Gwendolyn D Bush @gdbush24
@sfecoach Thanks Brett! Now I'm @UMICH_Mama_G TeamMom for the University of Michigan Football Program! Hahaha

How is this not a NCAA violation?

1) Kid says that he may be interested in transferring to Michigan
2) Decides he will stay at Stanford
3) Harbaugh offers his mother a job
4) Kid transfers

How is this fundamentally different than USC buying Reggie Bush's parents a house? They are compensating her in exchange for her kids commitment.

Good for UM. Doing what they gotta do to win and that's what's its all about.

Because the mom is officially listed in the staff directory? Its the details that Harbaugh knows that Petey didn't.

Was this supposed to be in italics? Or do you really think that skirting rules and being a sleeze is really what college football is all about?

So what would stop Notre Dame from hiring every low income parent to a "player development" job in order to pay for players? Hell, why stop there? Why not just pay the parents for "consulting"? It's absolutely astonishing to me that the NCAA wouldn't be all over this. If not, then every school in the country should start doing this and the debate of pay for play is over.

Has the mom ever worked this kind of job in the past?

Not in a paid sense, she was considered "Team Mom" for Stanford.

The thing is, how could you prove that someone isn't qualified for this job? I mean, it's literally just being there for the athletes. It has no prerequisites.

Furthermore, you could do this with anything. Hire fathers as "player development" people in charge of being a role model for the athletes. Or hire a kids older brother as a "athletic consultant".

It's cheating and unethical in my opinion.

seems similar to all the AAU coaches getting assistants positions in College BBall.

I agree.

I was just curious if she had ever been paid to perform these duties in the past, that would add some validity to it. As it is, I am with you, it's absolutely dirty.
