Despite Al Golden hiring, Miami pledge Anthony Chickillo still not sure about future
Miami Hurricanes hire Al Golden as football coach.

By Chris Hays | Orlando Sentinel

Tampa Alonzo defensive end Anthony Chickillo had heard the University of Miami had narrowed it's football coaching search down to three coaches, but he was informed Sunday night that the next Hurricanes' coach would be Al Golden, who comes in after turning around the football program at Temple.

"I didn't know that. I heard they narrowed it down. I don't know anything about him," said Chickillo, who was also asked if it helps that Miami was quick to replace fired coach Randy Shannon. "It hasn't been that quick. It's been about three weeks.

"I really don't know where I stand with Miami right now. I've been getting a lot of calls from a lot of different schools and they all want me to take visits."

Chickillo, 6-foot-3, 226 pounds, who is definitely bothered by the situation at Miami but has remained committed in a wait-and-see mode, took a visit to North Carolina in the time since Shannon was fired. He said he will take his remaining four visits in January.

The Chickillo family has always had strong Miami ties. Anthony's father and grandfather played for the Hurricanes. That loyalty, however, was a bit tainted by what has gone on during the past few weeks.

"It doesn't effect it at all," Chickllo said of his family ties to UM. "I was real close with coach Shannon and the previous staff. It is what it is ... they're not there an anymore.

Although it seems the new Hurricanes staff would quickly jump on the recruiting wagon to act as damage control for those commitments who remain, and that Chickillo, the sixth-ranked weakside defensive end in the nation by Rivals.com, would likely be a welcomed addition to the future of Miami football under Al Golden, Chickillo is not so sure.

"I wouldn't say they are in my bad graces," he said. "But I don't know even who is the d-line coach is going to be. I don't even know if I still have a scholarship offered to me. I don't even know if Al Golden is going to want me.

"I just really don't know. I'm talking to all the schools right now. I guess he's that guy (Golden) now. We'll just have to wait and see."

Miami 2011 commitments
DE Anthony Chickillo 6-3 226 Tampa Alonso
DB Jeremy Davis 6-0 180 New Berlin (N.Y.) Milford Prep (2010 commit)
WR Phillip Dorsett 5-9 165 Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas
LB-DE Nick Menocal 6-3 225 Miami Belen Jesuit

Wow....with unformed staff and Christmas holidays taking up a lot of days, that Miami recruiting "class" could be a near wipe-out. Holy moley. What would it be like to have a year nearly empty of hand-picked recruits???

I would say Mr. Golden will be adding a bunch of his Temple recruits.

Time for the full court press on this kid and he can commit right after our bowl win. I love this kid's versatility.

This has been a down year for Pennsylvania recruiting, their top player is committed to Notre Dame (Koyack). And seeing how Temple's class is about as highly regarded as Villanova's class (an FCS school), their seems to be little interest to bring those players to Miami. I don't know, that seems like and act of desperation to me. But by looking at Miami's class, desperation may be need to make this class look half-decent. However, there are a couple of 4 star D-Linemen (Simmons and Barnes) who are showing interest in Florida, so it is realistic to think that those players may start showing interest in Miami.

Golding is a great coach who I am sad to see leave Temple. What he did for Temple can't be understated, taking the s***-hole of college football and turning them into a respectable team that can compete for a conference championship. Now I can't possibly route for Golding while at Miami, but In a way I'm glad he did go. Temple went 8-4 this year and beat a BCS bowl team, WITH THE IDENTICAL 8-4 RECORD AS THEM (I know its UConn, but you get the picture), yet temple wasn't even considered for a bowl. What kind of message are you sending to potential recruits by your pitch line being "We could very-well compete for a 10 win season yet still not make a bowl". I would have Loved to see Al Golding take Temple to even higher levels, but inside I'm glad he took a quality job when the opportunity arose.

Golding is a great fit for Miami, and I am honestly worried how good they may be, especially seeing them on ND's schedule in the next few years. Looking at what he did with a few 3 stars, some 2 stars, and a majority of unrated or 1 stars--just imagine what he could do with the 5/4 star Miami already has.

Good luck Golding, just not against the Irish!!!

Golden.

And I agree, I doubt he takes any Temple guys with him to Miami. Stab in the back to Temple and those kids are nowhere near the talent level he should be bringing in to go play at Miami. Just hoping Chickilo isn't impressed by Golden at all and that a ND win over Miami will get him to flip his commitment.

First we need to win the bowl game, for a lot of reasons besides getting Chickillo, and then get one of the 4 remaining OVs in January....after that, I like our chances.

From Keith ARnold at Irish NBC

Meanwhile, the Irish didn’t just beat up Miami on the field last week, they’re taking dead aim at Anthony Chickillo, an outside linebacker/defensive end prospect that is the Hurricane’s top-rated commitment. Chickillo would be a third generation Hurricane if he eventually signs with Miami, but he’s considering taking a visit to South Bend at the end of January, and Tony Alford is on the case for Notre Dame

DaVaris is a stud on and off the field.

He is recruiting like a champ.

Can't wait to watch him tonight.

announcers during the game said Chickillo will be staying in state, meeting with Al Golden next week to clear some things up but still open to FSU and UF if he doesn't like what he hears........

Time for the full court press on this kid. I know that I wouldn't want to play for a khaki wearing coach.

Anthony---Miami link

Anthony---Miami link

Both Anthony's father and grandfather played for Miami. He was fine there until the coaching change. He wants to stay there. Golden will keep him I am sure.

Anthony had a great night---he will have no trouble staying in Florida if Golden loses out.

I know we've been talking to him but has he showed any interest in us? Also has he planned to make a visit?

The 7-8 pages prior to this one give us no such luck. We only had a glimmer of hope when Miami fired Shannon... It doesn't help the kid's a legacy at the "U." (boo!)
