Penn State and Syracuse have snow too...

Syracuse plays in a dome, and they stink

Factor that into his logic.

No I know. I was making a comment about the likely weather here during his visit.

But back to the thread. Woo Ishaq!

distance, not weather, is our enemy here

Welcome to IE. I agree that distance will probably be a big factor in his decision. Hoping has a wonderful experience during his visit and is able to make a bond or two with a few of the players. I really want this guy. This guy has heart and a tremendous work ethic.

I couldn't agree more. HEART and DEDICATION is what makes this kid amazing. Aside from the fact that he is very physically gifted of course haha. I really like this kid and what he would bring to our team on and off the field. If I am not mistaken, we are his las visit before he makes his decision in mid to late December. He is an EE.

But do people drive from Syracuse to NYC? It would seem to me a flight from SB to NYC wouldn't be that much different than a flight from Syracuse, except for maybe a couple hours of airtime.

Both his parents went to Syracuse and they lived upstate while he was a young child. There is probably huge pull there in that it feels like home. Luckily for us the team is terrible.

I think in the end we land him, and I will be really disappointed if we don't. He's going to be a great player, and he's already a great kid from the sound of things.

Syracuse beat some decent teams this year and ended 7-5. I can't say their competition is the greatest overall though.

Dude Syracuse went 7-5, the same record as us. May I also remind you about senior day 2008 against Syracuse...

so your saying the teams highlighted above are not equal to Purdue, BC, PITT, Western Michigan, Utah, Army, and USC?

Wait let me look again, nevermind I agree.

And by playing 2 1-AA teams (Maine and Colgate) they just sneaked into a bowl..teams that play more then 1 FCS school can only get 1 win towards the 6 needed for a bowl...bottom line if they did not upset WV and were 6-6, they would still not be bowl eligible.

Agree, the SU schedule is weaker than ours and the team is not as strong. That being said, I think they are in a similar situation in many ways.

New coach, trying to recapture past glory (although glory not as deep as ND's). Marrone played for McPherson who is still a legend in Syracuse (his grandson was the freshman long snapper this year).

Marrone has taken a somewhat similar approach to BK. Dedication, discipline and respect of tradition are the cornerstone of what he is trying to build. Has already developed and cultivated a recruiting network in the NYC area.

Syracuse to NY is not a hard drive and relatively easy train ride and cheap flight. Lots of NYC kids including athletes go to SU. Academically a decent school with some very good programs (Newhouse School one of best journalism/broadcast schools in the country for example).

I hope he comes west and is IRISH but if he chose SU it would be understandable.

the question should be from State College PA to NYC...this is a PSU-ND battle for sure...anyway, the answer would be yes they will and do drive to and fro...but no one drives from NYC to South Bend (at least not parents and friends to see their son/friend play)...that a flying deal (and not an easy one on game day weekends)

Don't forget about Floyd Little, Larry Csonka, John Mackey, Art Monk, Ernie Davis (would have been great). Just to name a few more.
