The real travesty here is that if Auburn and Oregon win out, then BSU or TCU will be kept out of the title game by a school that will almost certainly later be declared ineligible. That's ridiculous.
And that's exactly what is going to happen. Which is why I've become a huge South Carolina/Alabama fan for the next few weeks.
But besides them, nobody has any incentive to move quickly on this.
For Auburn, they know they're screwed. So why not let their fans enjoy the ride and maximize their positive exposure while they can.
For the NCAA and the SEC, same thing. They know this is going to be ugly, but quite frankly, it pays to have Auburn in the title game They'd much rather drag their feet on this and deal with it after the season.
Heisman and AP/Coaches' poll voters probably don't love the spot they're in, but their instructions are to vote based on what teams do on the field. They'll probably bite their tongues and vote Newton/Auburn.
The Feds are the only ones who might act quick enough, but they're working on a completely different time frame than college football is concerned with. Newton is just a way in for them on charges that will end up being in the neighborhood of money laundering and extortion.
