Have not seen much on him. In the link I posted, he had 5 catches for 38 yards. 4 were touchdowns. He also had a 76 Punt Return for a TD

I hope his speed improves a little bit, but he would be a nice legacy.

His 40 time for a Junoir is fine. Remeber Brandon Spikes from Florida ran a 5.2 at the combine. He had 9 tackles in his first NFL game. Football fast is different.

I remember his dad well. Who could ever forget him? Would be nice to see some footage on this kid.

40 speed is great for after the catch. Field awareness is a bit mo' better, even if you have to jog, in order to get open. From what I have read, maybe that is Bennett's problem, trying to use his speed to get open. Have any of you tried to run a route and catch a ball while running full speed with coverage around you? Hard to do. The time to use your speed is after the catch.

He attacks the ball in the air pretty well and seems to have good hands. If we took Jake Golic, I don't see how we don't offer Rice.

I saw Tony Rice jr and perked up a bit - it would be nice if it all worked out at ND for him, junior that is :)

Fun fact:

1. Rice Jr. wasn't even going to play football this year. He tried out for the soccer team first and then decided to go out for football.

2. Since you guys were talking about his speed. He wasn't to the fastest player on the soccer team. (I dont know how that necessarily transfers over to football.)

3. I know all this because Marian HS is my alma mater.

4. My younger brother is a class ahead of Rice and is on the soccer team. So this information is coming from him. Which may or may not be exaggerated.

If I could design an offseason program for a college football program, it would involve full involvement with a soccer, basketball, and racquetball program. Maybe some weightlifting.

But today I ate half a slice of bologna and went for a 3 minute walk. With a 2 minute rest every 30 seconds. Shifted my black eye patch from left eye to right cuz I'm so badass and sexy.

racquetball is an awesome way to develop quickness, cardio, and other things like eye-hand coordination. Great for anyone, but a really good way for linemen to get into shape and develop other skills used on the football field as well.

....oddly enough, wearing an eye patch even further develops your skills.

agree totally...but did you ever play against a 300 plus guy...tiny room...big swing...many welts and collisions...

My roomie was also our Nose guard...he thought the same way...and it benefitted him immensely...but I think the experience netted me a loss in speed and agility due to mounting injuries from being in such a tiny space with a big angry man.

So we could potentially have a Montana, Golic, Collinsworth, Heck, and Rice all on the roster. Sounds fine by me.

Speed does improve as you mature. A lot actually. I cut over .5 off my 55m dash time between my soph year and senior year of HS.

Don't forget Hanratty, Daniels, and the Atkinson boys. I woudn't mind adding a Sanders to the group as well.

Does no one play handball any more? I think it's better for developing foot speed, body positioning, eye-hand coordination and the use and positioning of both hands. Taking a racket out of the equation also reduces the possibility of face-changing injury.

I stuck with handball after getting a black eye, three split lips and two broken pairs of glasses trying to play pick-up basketball at "The Rock" with football players in the mix.

Who was I trying to kid? At 5'7" (without the springs and skills of Spud Webb) and 125 lbs. I was destined for failure. On the other hand, being quick and built low to the ground gave me an advantage over lumbering behemoths on the handball court.

Pick-up "touch" football was almost as damaging. I was better built for softball – playing outfield where baseline collisions with runners are pretty rare.

How about that. Way to go Tony Rice Sr. If he's got his Dads toughness Notre Dame should take a hard look. His Dad was a man.

I'm actually good friends with the Marian QBs brother. His mom has excellent post game food.
