Haha. Join the club, I bet it all on ND vs MSU! I don't understand though, we got 3.5 points and lost 34-31, shouldn't we have won? I get it that the spread didn't get used, but then why have it in the first post of the gambling thread?

Stanford looked very dominating in the Wake Forest game, but we don't know how good Wake Forest is. They did take UCLA to the woodshed and completely stomped Sacramento State, but ND will be their toughest competition to date. It is an away game for them, hopefully the crowd will be energized to help the team.

There is no reason to think that their defense will shut us down, we kept up with them last year and I think the year before. The personnel haven't changed that much. Yes we lost Clausen and Tate, but they lost the animal that was Gerhart.

The question will come down to, can we slow them down? Pressure on Luck will be imperative, not necessarily sacks, but hurries and hits early as possible to let him know that he won't have all day. The relief D-lineman will need to be very stout in controlling the line of scrimmage and the linebackers will need to tackle, not just hit, but actually tackle, to minimize the damage on the ground.

One last thing I hope to see is some safety help over the top for the DB's to ease some pressure on them. Luck is far and away the best quarterback the team will face this year and there is no doubt that they will need some help...he has the potential to destroy the defense. It is a blessing that Slaughter is back in the lineup, as he seems to be more of a free safety than Motta. Zeke will get his day, and could develop into a bone-crushing safety, but Slaughter just looks more comfortable in coverage and ND will need that this week.

I hope the ND comes ready to win, because they are going to have a brutally physical war on their hands.

I have a good feeling here... (yes, Mr. Doom and Gloom all year has a good feeling NOW after a 1-2 start... I know...)

one of two things will happen imo... we play well, hang on for a win and turn this thing around...

or

two, we lose and the beginning to the season that I feared but kind of expected all offseason happens, but at least is behind us... finally, and we can start winning games and building towards next season, which has a good chance to be a legit year, from beginning to end...

Like TinyT said, ...... No Gerhart this year ! So we actually have a better chance as long as we can control Luck, and pressure the S**T out of him, so he will make bad throws.

i'd also like to see some Dlinemen get their hands up and knock some passes down or tip some balls for Manti and company to return.

i don't know, but i remember Bill Walsh coming in and putting on a clinic for the world to see.

Not sure if this was the last time.... but

They shocked the world in 1990ish... i remember that game really brought an end to the last Tony Rice/Chris Zorich era championship run...

Have you seen Stanford play?

Have you seen Stanford play?

Sounds like you haven't.
He has no help. He doesn't have Toby Gerhart running the ball for him and more importantly their defense is going to suck. If we can keep the passing game contained, we roll in this one.

Yes, there is no Gerhart this year for Stanford

Yes, there is no Gerhart this year for Stanford

but that may not be such a good thing as some here seem to think. It means that the offense is all in Luck's hands, and he is a great talent.

Did you see Gaffney? Amazing. Dude only really played the first half. 7 rushes for 76 yards - 10.9 average. If we aren't careful and disciplined, he can torch us running from behind that offensive line. He is a different back than Toby, but he can break some big gains.

Good gravy! Sounds like some realists throwing in the towel.
Barring Crist getting injured, I'm predicting a win.
For no reason other than I have a gut feeling.

Unfortunately I'll only be able to catch the first half of the game(dad's coming to town for our tailgate of the Iowa State/Northern Iowa game[he's a UNI alum]).
Stanford's good, but they're not unstoppable.

Looks like I'll be in The Bend for the game. Got an e-vite to a tailgate at the old golf course from an SMC woman in my class (home base San Francisco) followed by a phone call from a classmate (Jacksonville) who urged me to make the trip. And he found a ticket for me. Another classmate (St. Louis) will be there as well.

Minneapolis to ND is an 8 hour drive but my son, who graduated college a year ago May, is joining me. I couldn't find a ticket for him but he has a friend/former college roommate in SB so he's cool with making the trip to allow me to show him the campus and tell boring stories about my years there. And then kick back with his buddy for a few beers while I'm at the game.

I found a green shirt. I'm staying as mute as possible to save my voice and may bring neoprene knee braces (the result of years of volleyball) so stand as long as I can.

Sadly, I won't be there until early Saturday morning and will miss the pep rally. Anyone want to meet for a beer?

Dshans, my friend, have a blast! I hope you have a safe trip to SB and have a great time at the game. Here's hoping the Irish can pull out a win with you in the stands. Bring some of that wise, Jedi, hippie magic to the stadium and help the Irish get the victory.

I want to see pictures of your trip!

Have fun!!!
