My observation is that MSU is a fairly "vanilla" big ten power team and try to do two things: Run over you, and channel all offense into their linebackers.

I agree with everything you said, as well as this... but it deserves to be said...

Alabama is a fairly "vanilla" SEC power team and try to do two things:..........

point?... It doesn't matter what you do if you do it at a certain level... MSU looks like they are pretty darn effective in what they do.

If you can run the ball and play defense you are gonna win more games than you lose. Michigan St will be tough but we WILL win. KLM and EJ all day this saturday

Tank, the safeties you mention all had/have great counterparts in the deep secondary, and usually had outstanding cover corners. This frees them up for more run support, unless it's a pure passing down.

The part concerning the "not hearing their names called", means that the front 7 are doing their job, and safety support isn't needed. When you safety's name is being call often on running plays, that's a very bad sign. It means your getting beat at the point of attack, and allowing the opposing O-line to get to the 2nd level blocking assignments. That's what's been happening at ND the past few years. IMO, the safety should NOT lead your team in tackles. If that's the case, something is dreadfully wrong.

In regards to , "how much time do you give", I think if he's the best we have, we have to be patient regardless of the time it takes. Kelly said, "we need to win now", I'm thinking HS is under tremendous pressure to not give up the big play, but close quickly, and be there for run support. He just doesn't seem to have that "feel" just yet. I think it's really close though, as he only seems a couple steps late, and has been right on time on a few plays. My guess is you'll see a different player this week, provided he can "see" the play action effectively.

Just my opinion, your mileage may vary

great points and i guess i just have to wait and see. hopefully you're spot on in your assessment of the situation.

Gonna be a good game. MSU may be vanilla, but it's an effective brand of football, that's why people still play it. Another close game, but with the potential for us to pull away in the second half.

I wont get the game living in Ga. But the radio is still good with Criqui/Pinkett. Gotta be tough if you pull for the Irish. GO GET STATE.

If you can't get the game on TV, just go to ChannelSurfing.net or Justin.tv and watch it. Depending on how many people are watching, the connection can be good. Plus, the comment section is worth the price of admission. Although, if you have a dog in the fight, it could be annoying. But watching USC against Hawaii on there was funny as hell.

As for me, I don't have cable and I work nights. I just hope HULU.com is putting the games up again and cutting out all the downtime like they did last year. Watch the replay of the entire game in a bit over an hour.

Once again, the "experts" are predicting an "intense shootout". Our first two games have not been shootouts! This is no longer the 2009 Notre Dame team guys!

Hello everyone. Life-long Notre Dame fan/first time poster here. I have got to say that I am very excited about where we are going with this program. I really think things are starting to turn around. I am hoping for a good, sound victory this Saturday and to continue on the season with more success. We have a ton of talent, and it was hard to watch last weekend's last minute loss to Michigan, but it also showed that this team is very different from our teams of the last several years. I see a proud squad that will fight till the end, and a coach that will eventually get us to where we all want to go. I am hoping for a 34-17 victory.., or somewhere in that range. We have a better defense, and I like the potential we have on Offense with a healthy Dayne Crist. Expect a good game this Saturday with us putting another check in the win column.

I have this as 1 of our 4 or 5 losses this year. Sorry. Its in Spartan stadium where they own us, AND its at night. State wins 32-30

And where's the sportsbook event on this game. I wanna win more money. LOL

Umm.... we've won there 2 out of the last 3 trips off the top of my head....

Sparty always plays us tough but East Lansing has ZERO intimidation factor. I had us losing 1 of 2 to Michigan/Michigan St. so I'll be taking the Irish here.

Are you out of your mind? The road team has won most of the games this decade. I'd love to know how they "own" us at MSU Stadium. What decade are you living in? If you had said up until last year MSU has owned us at ND stadium this decade you would have made sense.

Sorry..., I don't see us losing this game. Our players will be ready, especially after last weekend's loss to Michigan. Coah Kelly will have this team well prepared and we have too much talent to lose this one. I see us fighting from the start and finishing it at the end. I think our defense will be stout, and our offense will move the ball effectively both on the ground and in the air. 34-17 Irish!

The image of those half-wits planting the flag on our field is forever ingrained in my head. I hate the mascot, I hate the people, I hate MSU. We will not lose.

I have to tell you, this kind of blind pessimism bothers me. I'm fine with being a realist but what about this team scares you exactly?

They gave up 14 and 17 points to Western Michigan and Florida Atlantic respectfully, we have a winning record at their house all time and the last ten years, and even though we lost both sides of the ball are looking pretty damn good. What do they have that scares you?

Night games bother you that much?

I hope you lose all your fake money.

I'm gonna win a ton of vbucks. LOL all the way to the vbank. Hey, I'm just not a naive ND fan that thinks we are going to win every single game. If ya dont like it then too friggen bad. I can smell my vbucks now. mmmmmmmm the lovely smell of green. :)

PLUS, do you REALLY think we have seen EVERYTHING from State this year with 2 creampuffs? We have'nt seen the real team yet and it seems like this is always States breakout game.

I have to agree with NDOM. I don't think anyone predicted a 12-0 season for the Irish. Realistically, the Irish could lose any of their opening six games. I wanted to pick Michigan last week, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. We can easily lose to Michigan St., but I'm not as sold on getting beaten by MSU as I was Michigan, so my ND pick this week will be genuine. If I wasn't an ND fan I would've picked Michigan, but I just can't bring myself to check the box on Yahoo!, or place my vbucks against the Irish on here. ND isn't a great team, and if people can't see that, then there is a bit of delusion. There is nothing wrong with picking or rooting for the Irish, but you at least have to acknowledge the fact that they can be beaten, and it isn't a long shot.
