first off...
michael haywood if youre reading this you suck at everything you do at notre dame.

secondly...
jimmy if youre reading this you are the most incredible quarterback i think ive ever seen.

i am sick and tired of michael haywood. when it comes to football (in a very literal sense) he is a loser. thats what he does... he loses. he cant coach running backs. he cant call plays. and everytime that the camera shows him in the box he is either holding up his hands like he is absolutely clueless or holding his forehead like he is frustrated that the play didnt work the seventh time we ran it. im sick of haywood and im sick of losing.

i realize weve only lost three games. but weve only won 5. if we went 9-3 i would be thrilled with three losses. but when youve played eight games and have lost two of them because a less talented team came back at the end of the game and actually finished, and another because you couldnt get it through your thick skull that this is a pass first team, it just becomes ridiculous. and i am putting all of the blame on haywood.

heres how i see it. we have a team full of absolutely incredible talent. and the person in charge of them is the least qualified person imaginable. jimmy clausen is the only reason we score. when he throws a touchdown it is almost always to the receiver running a hot route that jimmy audibled. jimmy is a genius. haywood should be so lucky that he has this kind of talent to make him look like hes not an absolute failure when he calls a play that blows up and some freakish talent like tate or floyd saves the day.

the second half of the pitt game was unnacceptable. not just by notre dame standards, but it should be unnacceptable by any colleges standards. overtime was even worse. why do we have this guy leading our offense? he wouldnt make it at a highschool. where did charlie get off thinking this guy was gonna do alright? isnt that why we brought charlie in... because hes a playcalling genius?

we have a team that could go far. a national championship if it breaks right. but not with haywood at the helm. we are heading for continual underachievement under him. thats it and thats all. the players cant do everything, the man in charge has GOT to know what he is doing and haywood is not that man.

thats why im voting lane kiffin 09.

im just dreaming... but that would be sweet.

maybe im overreacting but i cant even express my anger with haywood.

No way! Haywood has done a decent job, given our running game is average at best. Give him time. He was hired by LSU, Texas, and ND. He is clearly not a loser. Remember, we were 3-9 last year. We still have the chance to be 8-4, maybe 9-3.

P.S. I never want to see Lane Kiffen on our sideline!

i thought i would catch a lot of fire for this.

probably not. people who want to discuss ND objectively (note that doesn't mean zero criticism) are slowly leaving the board.

it seems all the threads and posts full of piss and vinegar start to wear on people.

Latina has to catch a share of the blame for the OL. If you can't pass or run block, it really doesn't matter which play you call.
Hell, 20 years ago, everyone knew we were going to run, they just couldn't stop us. Not so much now.
Is it coaching, yes. But there is enough blame to go around, why stop at one guy.
Then again, ND is improving. So perhaps we need to be patient and see what happens this year, and certainly next year is the deciding year for CW.

ha thats understandable. but maybe you would have said the same about leahy and that turned out to be an ok era ;)

kiffin dominated at usc i think it would be fun to see him dominate usc at notre dame.

you know its possible to be realistic at the same time as optimistic. im being realistic not pessimistic. im just pointing out a problem that should be obvious to anyone who watches the games. we are predictable. we make plays because our guys are more athletic that the other teams guys, but they know whats about to happen. i myself have gotten pretty good at calling haywoods next play and my roommates think it hilarious how bad he is (im here at purdue, wow they suck REALLY bad). his playbook is about 5 plays long.

tate post route
floyd out route
allen counter
aldridge i-formation
hughes up the middle
(and of course punt and miss field goal)

also i dont blame walker for the miss. at first i was pissed that he couldnt make a field goal to save his life. but then i just felt bad for him because i knew he could but he was in his own head. he got us to 4th ot and thats good enough for me. jimmy should have hit floyd wide open for the win in 3rd ot and haywood should have run hughes up the middle on second and third and goal in 1st ot.

tell me, is that objective or piss and vinegar?

If you want to make a point that you don't think Haywood is a very good playcaller, you can back it up with objective examples and arguments, kind of like you did in the post directly above this. Saying someone sucks at everything they do or that they are a loser is simply tiring to read, because there's no opportunity for discussion. Like I said, posts like that drive people away.

Kiffin will not be an offensive coordinator anywhere anytime soon

You are right. Kiffin won't be a co-ordinator anywhere. He will be a head coach.

Theclassickiller no one should give you fire about this at all. I totally agree with you. You could blame Clausen about calling the last time out, but when he went on the field it looked like he was looking at 2 different people for calling the play.

Piss and vinegar is cool. Mix it with Vodka and

Yo! Who's your daddy!?

But seriously folks... I checked this site at a random moment, and 40 people were either signed in or witnessing (witnesses are chickens). I checked another ND site and only 5 were participating. This site seems to be doing OK.

-Not meant to contradict you SoCal, but I meant to contradict you.

No I didn't. But I did.

Uh oh. Fart.

8-4 possibly, but 9-3 this year ... the Irish would need an act from congress and a special miracle from the good Lord himself. I'm being facetious here, but I can't phathom the Irish running the table the remainder of the year, especially w/ road games at BC (who ALWAYS gets fired up for the Irish) and of course U$C who is playing like they are on a mission now.

i honestly think we're staring at 7-5 finish in the regular season. i think we have a slim chance of beating BC on the road this week. this is a huge rivalry game and BC just has our number these days no matter what the record. they are very well coached and well coached teams eat us alive. charlie has a lot of work to do this week to get this team focused on playing at their peak. anything less than peak performance and we will fall to 5-4. i hope i'm wrong.

I agree...I have a bad feeling about BC this week! One, we are not good on the road...please do not mention Washington...Clausen was average in that game and Washington is the worst team I have EVER seen in Div I football. Two, we have not found a true offensive idenity and until we do...we will lose games we are suppose to win. Hell I am not certain we will beat Navy...hello they run the ball 90% of the time and we cannot stop the run!!!! I thought we would go 8-4 but I am leaning towards 7-5...USC is going to be ugly guys so put down the koolaid and be prepared!

actually i think we maul Navy and Syracuse. i realize Navy is decent but with the departure of paul johnson(very good coach IMO as evidenced by GT this year) i don't think Navy will sniff us. BC will be a very hostile environment, similar to UNC, so we'll see how we react but unfortunately i'm guarded again after the huge letdown against Pitt.

POW! fucking right doggy thats good cake! mick2 you just summarized most of my inner feelings in less than two lines.

here is the bullshit that notre dame always catches: if we beat a team, nobody considers them a 'tough opponent'. when, given our usually tough strength of schedule, if you take away the opponent's loss against the irish they would be sitting pretty and be considered 'tough'. On the other hand, when we lose to a team, it almost always springboards their whole fucking season and they are 'so good'. When, if we beat that very same team, they are 'no good', and we are mediocre...

This is the crap i'm sick of so let's just all pray for the glorious day when the irish will reign as national champs once again. I CAN'T WAIT!

.... although it would be a nice start to just get a bowl victory, how 'bout this season??? i sure hope so

Almost a perfect post for me. You lost me at the last line where you clamored for a bowl win, which includes a "thank you for participating in our stupid little .com bowl game" certificate.

I hope we (FUUUUUCCCKKK - I said "We" again...) lose the next 25 bowl games, if that means we (shit...) lose the next 25 "so called" championship tries.

Actually, I would like for ND to win all 25 tries, but I digress...
