-piss poor tackling
-playing out of position
-over pursuit on D
-drive killing mental errors/pentalties
-getting in our own way when a chance to close out a game comes along
-stopping the opponent on 3rd and 4th down
-get pressure up the middle


I can't say we played out of position or made many mental errors in this game... and aside from Marves TD we did just fine on 3rd and 4th... and even though there were moments of poor tackling throughout, it wasn't an epidemic..

it's a work in progress but progress has been made.

You're right on everything. There has been progress, and there should continue to be progress. The team should not peak at the beginning of the year as has been evident in the last few coaching regimes. I'm pretty positive right now, and while they didn't look great, they should only get better.

I watched too much football since Thursday, and I see way too much bush coming out of helmets on just about every team. I made that comment after NBC showed a Purdue white guy with a rasta type hairdo. And yes, I am having a bad hair day. Can't get it to do anything.

Anyway, team looks well coached in all areas. Special teams looked good, D was good, O was conservative but won the game. 2 mistakes against a good team will kill you.

Really really liked Mayock. I think when he started the game, he had his mouth too close to the mic or something and he sounded kinda fairyish, but he did a great job.

Hate to say it, but at this point I am thinking 6-6 or 7-5. But we won't be seeing any dumb penalties or unpreparedness. These guys were well prepared. Kudos to Kelly.

Highlight of the game for me was that Purdue had to work hard on offense for almost anything that they got. The defense did a really admirable job against a pretty clever and athletic quarterback with some receivers to throw to. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I thought that the D-line did essentially what Diaco asks of them. Not much room to run occurred in the middle. It would be nice to see more speed at DE, but that's why we're recruiting how we are.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Gray was terrific and Walls was very good. It's been a long time since I was as confident of our corners. The defense collectively earned the game ball. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Wood was spectacular. Allen took the bait and ran harder after he watched the lightning ball trying to steal his job. Rudolph was undefendable. Floyd probably was too, but Crist has a long way yet to go to rival Quinn or Claussen. Still, he managed the win well enough. TJ showed me that he's a big play guy too. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I agree with BGIF that Crist's statistics were superb, but, honestly I think that it was mainly a smart kid acting VERY conservatively within a great system. He will get better and frankly must get better. He has to read progression a little bit at least, and not eat the ball as much.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Bennett Jackson looks like another in our long run of fabulous kick covers, and Ruffer has an accurate cannon. We were strong in the fourth quarter and that true even with the offense punishing the defense by leaving them on the field too long. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------By the way, I didn't read this thread until after it was all over--it was like listening in on a madhouse filled with multiple personality disorder schizos way off their meds---VERY entertaining.
