what are u talking about. this is one of the best and most looked forward to games of the year.

As evidenced by the fact ticket prices are through the roof. I don't know how you can think of getting rid of this game, unless Michigan is a lot more worried about the future of their program and its' competitiveness level in the next 5 years then they're letting on.

Shame if it's true. As much heartbreak as this matchup has caused me in the last few years, it's one I look forward to each season.

I think we were trying to get in a set with Alabama, rumor, grain of salt... But I think we're trying to get a few teams in before the B10 moves to a 9 game conf schedule.

This is absolutely how I see it. We can basically kiss our rivalry goodbye once the expansion starts, because everyone will want to schedule wins for their OOC games.

Michigan-Notre Dame series may take break after 2012 | freep.com | Detroit Free Press

Not that I don't like our series but I like the idea of a break, it would be nice to see some other programs.

...I always looked at the state of Michigan as an indicator for the season...usually either skunk bear or sparty fielded a really solid team...sometimes both. If we won one and at least competed in both games, seemed like we would have a real good year...

Without the skunkbear...my gyro for expectations is out of whack...."Houston we have a problem"

Anyway...seems like a bad idea to me...Dickrod will be gone, the hatter will be the grand puba of skunkbears, and skunkbear will see a resurgence...they know that isn't complete w/o us on the schedule...we complete them :)

This is always my favorite game of the year. There's a huge ND scUM rivalry in my family so it is personal to me. I don't think it will happen to begin with. And if there is a break in the series I bet it will on be for 2 or 3 years.

I had a feeling this was going to happen.

First thought, Michigan has a little bit of a history of "running away" when Notre Dame gets good. I found it interesting that Michigan sat down to talk about extending the series in 2007. After perhaps Notre Dame's worst season ever. What a coincidence.

Now with the Irish stock seemingly on the rise with a proven coach like Brian Kelly, no wonder Michigan is backing off.

More importantly, I felt like Michigan wasn't going to put up with an expanded Big Ten with Nebraska (and other new teams in the future) added to playing Ohio State AND Notre Dame every year.

Out of all the Big Ten teams I thought Michigan had the money and balls to walk away from this series, whereas Purdue and MSU simply need us on the schedule every year.

Maybe it's only a 2-year break, but I wouldn't be surprised if the games between Michigan & Notre Dame get less frequent over the next couple decades.

The way I see Notre Dame's rivals:

#1 - Southern Cal. Just a bunch of Cali douchebags. Need to get stomped badly.

#2 - Michigan. God I hate them.

#3 - Boston College. I hate them because they aren't as good and yet Notre Dame keeps losing. They're just annoying.

#4 - Michigan State. See Boston College.

....the rest.

If this series ends, bring back Miami for the long haul. Screw the Big Ten if need be!

nevermind that we're going to a 9 game conf schedule... I'm sure we'll pick you back up, but without the extra guaranteed home game we lose lots of money at the gate. I doubt is has anything to do with anything else.

I hope this doesnt happen - ND vs. Michigan has always been my favorite regular season matchup in CFB since I have been watching CFB (mid'80s)

meh, i am fine with it...the only game i would be opposed to losing is usc.

so i say we take a break for a few years and add a nebraska or a penn state or a ucla to replace michigan.

The only reason your doubtful that it has anything to do with anything else is because your a Michigan fan which is sad in itself. This would be a disgrace to the game if thats holds truth in any sense. You take one of the oldest rivalries away because of what:

1. Michigan now realizes how bad their situation is and that its only getting worse?

2. We wont join their confrence and make their confrence a ton of money?

Despite the one Michigan fan on this thread that is optimistic about this situation, Michigan fans will also hate this and turn on the university much like what is happening here in Knoxville with Tennessee dropping UNC. And that game is not a rivalry game by any means. IMO this possibility will never come into play. It cant happen because it is unamerican and against everything football stands for. College Football is tradition and its built on rivalries. Politics and money are destroying everything and its ridiculous.

Michigan fans will not turn on their university b/c of this. They'll turn if they continue to lose and they still keep Rodriguez. I know a couple Mich fans and they are MUCH more concerned with DickRod and this coming season and the future of the direction of the program than they are about losing the ND game.

I'd like to know what the real reason is. You degrading the UM fan b/c of his conjecture is ironic considering you're doing the exact same thing. Not trying to kill you for it, but this just came out, and none of us know the truth. His reason makes sense to Mich fans, and is a plausible one, considering the $$ they lose when they lose a home game (ummm...see: 7-4-1 format). The reasons you stated are plausible to ND fans considering the history of the 2 programs.

And btw, I'll believe we are 'back' when we win a few games. Highly doubt that they think that in 2013 they won't have their ship righted by then...

You should see the posts on that blog I have mentioned a few times. Most of them don't care and are looking to see other teams. Interesting viewpoints.

I doubt that's the reason; they're trying to schedule Alabama in a one-off in 2012.

IMO this is an inevitable result of expansion. B10 teams pick up one more conference game and lose one home game. There will be financial pressure to set up one big OOC game (like Alabama) in one-offs, the other OOC games need to be easy games with teams that don't want a return home game. I suspect MSU and Purdue will follow suit. As conferences expand and as ND gets better, ND will have more and more difficulty getting quality opponents.

I think the next step for the B10 will be to expand eastward to 15 teams, then come back to ND with one last chance to join.

I agree; probably in 2013. And if ND doesn't take it, Missouri will.

Keep both Mich and USC if you like to get screwed at least once a year.
