Just announced officially that Coach Weis will be in attendance at the table per Golden and Jimmy's request. I thought this might be happening as a big chair was placed between the two smaller ones at around 1:58 PM. Should be an interesting announcement. Thoughts, opinions... As Charlie once said (or always did) "Fire away"

Goodbye gents....thank you for your memories as part of the Irish. Thank you for the fun games and for breaking the Bowl game losing streak best of luck in the NFL.

Ha ha Golden, when asked about his baseball future, commented that he thought maybe 5 or 6 years down the line... he might join a softball league - got a good chuckle from Charlie. If you haven't watched this yet, make sure you watch the whole thing because it has been very good so far!

By the way, don't rip on Charlie for being there or having a "big chair." He was asked by these two players, who he clearly had a profound impact on, to sit in on this - possibly their most important day so far in their young lives. He has developed these two incredibly well despite some of his other faults as a coach. Let's try to steer clear of the Weis bashing for this thread.

:( Weis attitude and demeanor was just disgusting. So arrogant and gleeful that he convinced these two young kids to go to the NFL.
and Didn't it seem as though Tate looked like he necessarily didn't want to go the NFL but was convinced(Forced) in to it?
Both seemed quite guilty as well. And I mean come on to say that the Salary Cap of next year doesn't have a play in it is just bull.

I didn't see the press conference, so I can't comment on Charlie's attitude in it, but it looks like your projecting your own feelings onto this.

Charlie is obviously proud of these two, he works hard with his players and wants to see them succeed. But to say that Tate was FORCED to go to the NFL? Charlie is calling recruits and trying to convince them to still come to the University. He's not trying to sabotage ND football on his way out.

Both Tate and Jimmy put a ton of trust in Weis, and he gave them the best advice he could. I'm sure he would have done the same thing if he were coming back. And of course they feel a little guilty, its tough to leave your teammates and a program like ND. But if there was ever a time where the circumstances justify the decision, now is it.

I thought Charlie was very respectful, I mean both JC and GT said it, they will be asking Charlie for help when it comes to the NFL. Also Charlie was crying when Jimmy referenced Dane, so don't think Charlie is a bad guy here, he loves his team and cares for his players.

Agreed. 81's conclusion is unfounded. I'm shocked anyone expects a coach to be anything less than proud of the successes of his players.

1. Jimmy was grinning from ear to ear, at the opening of the PC. Then he tried to play like he was all choked up, when he made the announcement.

2. It was great to see Weis smiling and laughing, when Tate mentioned that he might join a softball league, in a few years.

3. How the hell is Golden Tate maintaining his academic eligibility? Clausen: "Can you rephrase that for Golden?"

4. Nice comment by one of the reporters, at the end, thanking all three for their contributions.

Next thing we know, 81 will be trying to tell us that Charlie Weis was the second gunman, on the grassy knoll. :krazy:

Jimmy should have announced while wearing a mock yellow jacket on the steps of the hall of fame.......

LEAVE CHARLIE ALONE!!!!

No but seriously he was asked there by these 2 guys whom he has mentored for the past few years & they are obviously grateful for that. There was nothing smug or arrogant about it.

If you didn't see the conference than you really don't know.

...he was! I can prove it! ;) lol I was there....

Ya'll this is just my perception of the Conference. I'm pissed and sad that their leaving and that we don't have a coach. Of course I'm projecting my own feelings. Weis's attitude has bugged me for a long time.
about Tate obviously I have no idea what happened it just seemed that in comparacen to Clausen he was stuttering and didnt seem totally convinced to go to the NFL. thats all folks :)

I think it is more a case of Tate not being very quick, mentally, and not being comfortable fielding questions about leaving early. Seriously, did you see Clausen ask one reporter to rephrase a question, so that Tate could understand it?

I can imagine that was an incredibly brutal thing to endure with all the flack ND gets (esp. recently) & knowing the entire nation is watching. Tate handled it a lot better than I would have. I'da been a wreck & probably tossed my lunch on Charlie.

i just didnt like the fact how tate and clausen said they couldnt do anymore to do better. yes statistically this is true, but im talking about W's and L's.... as a couple they failed at ND to get the W's. that's why quinn will forever have a better legacy than clausen and samardzija than tate.

this is not hate speech, i love them both, but im looking at the bigger picture.

What bugs me the most is that Tate said "all this IS BEING TAKEN AWAY FROM ME" as if he didn't have a say in it.
Maybe it was just a way of speaking but it bugs me.

Noticed that too, but I think he was just being nervous and stumbling over himself.

I just wonder if they are both ready for the NFL...Jimmy's best year was this year, but his name fizzled quickly out of the heisman race. Tate had an outstanding year and stepped up really big when Floyd when down. Out of the 2 I think Tate is more NFL ready.
