Good run for Canada. A lot of young talent. Crepeau needs to go, not sure who is better than him, though. (USA has similar GK woes.) I know you guys extended Marsch but he ain't the answer. Regardless, Canada has a bright future and now CONCACAF will have 3 teams competing for confederation titles.

Yeah man, we couldn't ask for any more than that. The team had never won a World Cup game coming into thr tournament and we found up in the Final 16, with aome help of the draw. I think Canadian soccer fans are pretty realistic about who our team is at this point. An up-and-coming squad, that is nowhere near the top of the world at this point.

As for our goaltending, we're really excited about Owen Goodman. He's the 22 year old keeper for Crystal Palace. English-born dual national who plays for Canada. 6'4 and super athletic. He was the #3 guy for this squad and will be the starter at 26 years old, 4 years from now.

As for the rest of the squad, we're really excited about what we have coming back and what's coming up in the system. Canada played the entire tournament without our best player, as Alphonso Davies was out with a hamstring injury. They lost their highest upside midfielder, Ismael Kone, to a broken leg in the Qatar game and they lost their most creative young wing player, Marcelo Flores, to a torn ACL, two weeks before the World Cup. As you can imagine, a team as thin as Canada is with top talent cannot afford those injuries. That said, the following players will be back in 4 years, with many of them in the prime of their careers (ages 4 years from now listed).

With that core back and 5 or 6 re!lly promising young players in Europe and MLS, plus 15-20 more currently in the NCAA and European academies, we should have an experienced team of players in their prime 4 years from now, bolstered by some quality young talent.

Within the next 4 years I'd like to see us jump from #30 in the world into the top 20 consistently.

Australia would absolutely hammer Canada 0-0 (PKs 1-0) in a play off for 20th or so. Absolutely hammer them.

As a soccer casual who just despises flopping, I thought Paraguay abusing France the entire second half was pretty fucking funny.

I am rooting for Azteca to get swallowed by a giant sinkhole tomorrow.

If that's not possible, I hope everyone gets hurt and both teams forfeit.

If that's not possible, then I hope England wins but is exhausted and injured afterwards.

Yeah, I’m surprised how many people want to root for Mexico. Outside of being our biggest soccer rival, England has fought on our side and two world wars has been our best International partner over the last century, regardless of what you think of their current leadership.

Meanwhile, Mexico is effectively a Narco state that has more or less single-handedly caused the border crisis / free flow of drugs north. They certainly are no Canada. They’ve absolutely sucked as a neighbor.

England in an ugly 0-0 120 minute draw where they then win PKs 3-0 would be ideal outcome

Whatever you think about El Tri or the Three Lions, that game tonight is going to be so frickin lit. We can dislike the Mexican national team but still appreciate their passion for the sport.

Man, I don't know enough about Mexican soccer to know why exactly I'm supposed to hate them. I'm sure there's reasons. But England gives strong Michigan vibes. Longtime power living on some theoretical past glory. Seems to think they invented the sport. Fans are total cockbags.
Can't root for those people. Go Mexico.

I will say the current generation of Mexico’s players are generally soft and typically owned by the US this decade when it’s A team on A team, so I can understand why newer fans don’t get the vitriol. I don’t believe Mexico has even beaten US at the Azteca since before 2010. Its the pre-2015 or so teams that were total dickheads for lack of a better term. Rafa Marquez leading the way with intentionally trying to injure multiple players, brawls breaking out etc, some of the dirtiest tackles you’ll ever see while also flopping like little bitches… This doesn’t even touch on the fans who throw piss balloons and beer at the players, lasers in their eyes, mocking 9/11 at the Azteca… could go on and on.

I don’t like England but I don’t think there is any match where I could root for Mexico short of impacting the US’s ability to advance.

As a proud American of mostly Irish immigrants my general antipathy towards the British team comes from the Irish part of being Irish-American. As an American, I think it's safe to say our countries have moved beyond that disagreement 250 years ago and it's worked out fine for everyone. However, the Irish in my blood doesn't forget the past.

That being said, Mexico is our biggest soccer rival and I want nothing good to happen to them in the sport, ever. So, since this is a soccer game - God Save the King.

Here's all you need to know:
It started in 2002, when we beat them in the round of 16. We scored early. Throughout the second half, they took out their frustration with cheap shots. You could rinse and repeat that story line for pretty much the next 8 years. Then came along Vela and Chicarito and they started beating us again, so the cheap shots became less frequent. Then we started beating them consistently again in 2019 and in come the cheap shots (see the chop on Balogun and ripped jersey of Weston in the video above). You could also hear racist, homophobic chants anytime our goalie kicked a goal kick. Games at Mexico have frequently been paused to get the Mexican fans to stop.
On top of that, anytime we played Mexico at Azteca, our players could expect to be hit by bags full of piss from the stands.

They are bitter rivals. I do not cheer for them.
I would say that Mexico also has Michigan vibes. Even though Mexico has never won a world cup, if you hang around their fans, you would think they would have won everyone in the history of the world cup.
