If there’s one NFL opportunity I think Marcus would seriously consider, it’s this one

why? He already said no to all other openings and said he'll be back in 2026.

No QB, they've been in Wild Card purgatory for a full decade basically and are probably staring down a lengthy rebuild at some point in the near future.

That coach will have incredible job security. Pittsburgh has had 3 coaches in like the last 50 years.

Yeah, it’ll be a rebuild but the Pittsburgh front office will give the coach plenty of time.

I would assume the Steelers have known about this for quite some time and had already started back channeling.
Agreed, this was a very good possibility even before MF said he was coming back, job would have opened have opened 2 weeks earlier had they lost to the Ravens

Chuck Noll took the job in 1969. More men walked on the moon in 1969 than have been coaches of the steelers since Noll was hired.

Insane.

Just to war game this out… if MF were to leave next week, it’d open a temp portal window. If half the roster left, what would happen? How does ND fill the gaping hole in the roster with bodies?

Speculating posts like this will get you on the bout card at the Irsay Y in a hurry.

As a die hard Steeler fan, I don't want MF as our next coach and I'd say that even if I wasn't an ND fan.
Felt the exact same way about the Bears a year ago.

It is a completely different culture in the NFL and why very few guys have been able to jump from college to the NFL, without any prior NFL coaching experience, and end up successful.

Marcus is awesome for Notre Dame. He can probably succeed at just about any college program in America. Handing him the keys to an NFL franchise is a major gamble. Especially one like the Steelers, who have had three head coaches in since 1969.

I am a massive Irish fan as well as a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. I don't want Freeman to leave ND, but if the Rooneys call, you have to pick up the phone. The Pittsburgh job only comes around every couple of decades. Just to throw this out there, Cignetti was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and I believe started his coaching career at Pitt. Just Sayin'.

Freeman PC tomorrow at 1pm.

More than likely to address everything that has happened since Dec 7th.

I hope he talks at length about how that wrestling coach is a stupid piece of shit.

It wasn’t too long ago Freeman was playing 10 guys in a very critical moment against OSU. He’s a great coach, but he’s still a little wet behind the ears. He is still learning.

Pittsburgh is a top notch NFL organization. Coaching there with zero NFL experience? Good luck.

We were chanting "Fire Tomlin" after 19 winning seasons and making the playoffs 8/11 years. MF is not even close to being ready for that job.
