I don’t even know what to think when we are getting beat for Midwest recruits by Indiana. Not Michigan, not Ohio State, not Penn State. Indy-freakin-ana. Not just that lost him without even getting a visit!

It's a new world in CFB. Teams like IN, TT, Vandy, etc. are going to be factors. However, ND, OSU, GA, etc. are going to get the bulk of their talent from HS recruiting.

We couldn’t even get the visit?
I suspect that ND wanted something out of him academically that the respective college would not compromise on and Marsh wasn't interested in doing it in order to come to ND. Indiana likely did not have the same requirement, therefore, with ND and Marsh at an impasse, it made sense just to commit to Indiana if they made the right offer.

I still contend that a different perspective (and being open to it) is needed beyond just cash and power ranking to choose a small private Catholic school like Notre Dame, even in these one off scenarios. Riley Leonard, for example, was a religious guy who recognized the value of an experience like ND, but that might not be everyone's thing. Without having the opportunity to even discuss what he could gain by ND, all that remains is cash and power ranking. As of today, Cig can say, "We are number one. Notre Dame didn't even make the playoffs." But today is not next season. My whole thing as was said above: who is Indiana's QB next season?

Realistically speaking this really is a crucial year to land a playmaker. We’ve got CJ for maybe one more year and the cupboard behind him is not appealing. Freeman and Denbrock need to a big year from a nationally recognized wideout or future years recruiting/portal efforts are going to be tough sledding.

Part of being a fan is hating certain teams. Not sure who my enemy is anymore so I will hate them all until further notice.

I'd be willing to bet a bag of money that Cignetti would trade IU's 2026 WR room, including Marsh, straight up for ND 2026 WR room.

Reality is, we have studs everywhere they just haven't proven it on the field yet.

Part of me is not only looking at Freeman and company for losing this battle but I’m curious what CJs involvement is/was in this process. CJ just got beat by essentially nobody or at the very least a player to be named later. Be a leader CJ and recruit!!!

If Greathouse is dialed in and healthy, I totally agree.

I also think this increases the likelihood of ND going hard after a Brody Foley caliber TE to help the passing game out. Boundary WR is one position. If ND can field a mid round NFL Draft Pick there, and surround him with 3-4 other excellent pass catchers, the offense will still be deadly and efficient through the air.

Here is an idea. If ND wants to get a 1st round WR talent ala Golden Tate or Michael Floyd, they have to get off their asses and recruit the heck our of that kid in high school and be willing to pay what the market values him at.

Be specific. What exactly does ND need to do to "step it up"?

I’m sure they pushed him with the old your spot won’t be here in a few days tactic.

Obviously, we weren’t the only team that missed here but to not even get a visit is pretty embarrassing.
100% agree and spot on. If ND lost out with a visit- more understandable, but ND losing out without a visit and to IU f'ing embarrasing.

Anyone remember last year's transfer window? I though I remembered that if a kid visited and didn't commit during, the staff moved on immediately.

Have you guys watched his tape? He’s a good boundary wide receiver, but he doesn’t have first and probably not second round NFL talent. He doesn’t pull away from anyone and he’s not making acrobatic low probability catches.

More annoyed with how we lost him than actually losing him as a player. I think he’s better than Strong, but I don’t think the gap is that big.

That was my thoughts on him watching tape. There really wasn't one single wow rep that I saw from him. Granted there's none from Strong either so regardless of who's in the room come spring it's on Brown and CJ to make sure we get the most out of the entire receiver room

We would be landing more high profile commitments unless they think our staff is bad?
Maybe, maybe not. Could be academically-related, could be a lot of reasons. I also think we need to be judicious about spending money. We don't need to be overpaying for WR's.

I think it stings because the CFP didn’t want us, USC doesn’t want us… all the click baiters like Cowherd and Klatt are basically advertising for no P4 team to schedule ND… it’s hard to punch back when you lose your first portal target to Indiana. It continues to look bad nationally.

Wait - what? If you’re talking recruiting, have you seen the 2026 class?

If you’re talking portal, Sam Hartman, Riley Leonard, Malachi Fields - all of these guys were primary targets that ND went out and got.

Let alone the players that ND keeps year to year that are being offered big money by other programs.

Just about anyone who is honest (i.e., not paid to have a different opinion) knows we get screwed by the CFP. USC doesn't want us because they want a game with 90% odds of winning, not ~50% or whatever when we play them. And IU is good now, losing a recruit to them is not embarrassing.

We just scheduled BYU. I don't think scheduling is a huge problem. Go 12-0 and 11-1 and we're in no matter the schedule.

I think people are still just having a hard time wrapping their mind that Indiana is good now. If we lost marsh to lsu or bama or ohio state no one would blink an eye. They just dominated bama in the rose bowl and they are all in on nil they are going to be a force in the portal this season. They have hoover locked up multiple other skill guys locked up
