Without real smoke, I'm not going to be worried about the NFL unless Tomlin retires. Freeman seems EXACTLY the type of coach Pittsburgh would want after Tomlin and they don't fire coaches.
Would be a wild move to go from Mike Tomlin to Mike Tomlin Part 2. I just think the offensive minded/QB guru type coach will be the wave for the next several years still.

“I would never say anything bad about MF but if circumstances were to change here’s how I’d go about shitting on him”
If calling out obvious flaws from the first two games is shitting on him, I guess that's it. Lol

I just want osu to repeat so ryan day stays at osu for eternity, and they keep their filthy mitts off Freeman. I don't think there's another coach like Day outside of John Calipari that has done less with more. Nd getting osu level talent lately should really frighten people. If we crush the portal we might repeat for 2 years. I'm very optimistic on the future right now. Even if I know I lost my shit for 2 days. Going full villain mode is going to be very satisfying.FnrgypfXoAU9ULx.jpg

Day has highest win percentage of all coaches over the last ten years (.870). If doing less with more is winning 2 national championships in a row, please sign us up for that plan

The only person who really knows Freeman's long term intentions and motivations are in his career is him, and while I don't think it's not worth discussing it mostly amounts to projection.

People in this fanbase are going to worry and complain about everything. There's no getting around it. For all of the reverence Lou Holtz gets as we enter 2026, I can't begin to imagine what it all would have looked like in a digital age. Doesn't matter who the offensive coordinator is, everyone sitting at home in their living rooms is going to know more. That's just sports culture and human nature.

I will say this: Notre Dame can do everything within their power to protect this asset that is Marcus Freeman, and I believe that they will and they should. It guarantees nothing. Marcus Freeman is going to be like every person on the face of this Earth in the end: he's going to do what is best for himself and act on his own behalf to whatever best benefits him. We have him because Brian Kelly did the exact same thing, and if we're all being honest, did we really know what we had in Marcus Freeman when we got him? I don't think most of us did. Great DC, charismatic young dude who recruited with the best of them, but this? I don't think so. We had reservations about him being a first time head coach and all the rest of it. We know now, and because we know, we're afraid to lose him.

So I think it comes down to how you wish to live your fandom. If you think it's the hope that kills you and you want to wait around for bad things to happen, it's hard for anyone to stop you other than a therapist. Maybe a really good ass kicking. When shit goes bad, you can say "I told you so" and ask for apologies because this coach left or ND didn't make the playoff, etc. I think it's kind of cunty, but that's just me. I choose to enjoy the ride when it comes to sports. I've seen one Natty, one Super Bowl, one World Series, six NBA Championships and three Stanley Cups in my lifetime. I can say that those were not even my favorite teams of the ones I support. I love this 2025 team and as much as it sucks we've seen them play their last game, I'll remember the ride more than anything else. The second half against Purdue, Price's kickoff return against SC, kicking Pitt's ass and Narduzzi's stupid face. Eventually, this program is going to win a Natty again, and when they do it's going to be great. That's going to be a hell of a ride. By February, we're all going to be fixing for spring ball and figuring out depth charts and recruiting classes. It goes on, man, again and again.

I hope Freeman has a Frank Beamer run at Notre Dame with more championships and less alcoholic defensive coordinators (I love Bud Foster, but dude had issues). I hope he wants that for himself, too, but there is absolutely zero telling what the future holds. He's here now and I'm going to enjoy that ride for as long as it lasts. I think it's going to be a long time but I am not about to dwell on a timeline.

Rally.

Couldn't disagree more on the "fit." I think there is a decent chance the fans in the Steel City would burn the team facilities to the ground.

Sampson said on the shamrock podcast that he expects the extension to come, hopefully in the next month. Phrased as rolling 6 year extension for as long as freeman wants to be here. NFL surely will always be a worry, but hopefully Marcus feels as supported as possible and gets basically whatever he would like to stay as our head football coach.

I think this type of stuff is generally what Pete is best at. His actual analysis of the season is pretty dog shit but I think he gets wind of this larger level programmatic stuff.

We can be so much more competitive with NIL since we don't have to pay tens of millions of dollars to ex-coaches like so many teams have to.

Fify. Glad the Charlie Weis payout joke has been forgotten in the annals of history.

Day was mentioned annually for the NFL till basically this year. Kirby doesn’t get mentioned because it doesn’t make sense why he would ever leave given his instant success (and salary) at this level.
Smart would be a disaster in the NFL in my opinion. Raiders will probably end up hiring him. Lol.

Is there a need to hear from MF? Pete basically spoke to the media and said MF was focused on the players. If he did speak, it would probably be the same things Pete said, right?
Absolutely not. Every minute spent talking to anyone other than players, coaches, recruits/tampering targets, and big boosters/administrators to get the staff, roster, $$$, and policies in place he needs to win is a waste of time.

Yes this is a crisis of sorts, but they cannot let a crisis go to waste. The gift of time is precious.

Completely agree. Not to mention, Marcus is highly likely to say something uncouth. I'd rather he use this time to galvanize and unite everyone around him in a mission of vengeance. ESPN/SEC are drunk on their power and I hope ND can find a way to hurt them and usher in something better.

I wish they'd go dark on all required interviews. The most basic answer possible that fulfills obligations. Think Marshawn Lynch, "I'm just here so I won't get fined" or Bill Belichek's "Yes"/"No" replies. Don't fill the waves, don't give anyone anything to sink their teeth into.

Offer interviews to Notre Dame reporters down the line. Or exclusive team viewings but keep ESPN at a distance. I wish we could go as far as banning them from campus but it's not feasible.

Not really. Hope he's taking some time to be with his family. Then it's back in the lab for the 2026 season and 2027 recruiting class.

Not his job to appease the fanbase to convince them he's staying.
