Ehhhhh that doesn't make me feel any better until they actually announce something or every NFL job is full
Would have been worrisome if he said they just extended him last season. IMO something gets announced towards the end of this week or next.

Has anybody who could know hinted at Freeman having NFL interest? To me, he can absolutely coach but does he want to coach and develop young men or coach professionals? Because the NFL and college are obviously different and few have made the transition from one to the other well.
He should give Urban a call. I’m sure he’d have some things to say about that.

Waiting for you to admit I was correct about the playoff. You won't, but you should.

Posting gambling odds every 4 hours for 3 weeks isn’t being right. You never once articulated a reason we would be left out. If I would have taught a parrot a few words, he could have predicted it with the same accuracy as you.

Yes you were correct that the committee took an absolutely unprecedented stance of not punishing a CCG loser even one slot as 86/88 CCG losers have been. Also your main proof was Vegas odds that turned out to be totally wrong the night before and morning of.

There is thus far zero credible reporting of MF interviewing for any open NFL other than message board musings by fans. He may very well leave this year, or next or within the next 10 years. That has absolutely zero bearing on unfounded doom and gloom for the dopamine hit of being "right"

It doesn't sound like ND would let money be a reason for Freeman to leave. And if he's not leaving for a life-altering raise, then I can't see him leaving this cycle. I would actually feel worse about the NFL flirtation if ND made the playoff. The way this all went down I just can't see him leaving now.

Marcus will leave Notre Dame an NFL job or Ohio State. There’s nothing they can do about that, so it isn’t worth worrying over. But they can make sure he doesn’t leave for an SEC school.

I'm not so sure about OSU and I'll tell you I'm hoping they win it all this year because that makes Day invincible and also, who wants to go to a school that's just finished back to back dynastys and multiple championships?

I think Marcus would see OSU and say what's the point? They're already at the top and all I could do differently is disappoint.

You’re gonna have this feeling every single year for the entirety of his contract, no matter how many times they extend. No lt a single contract makes any difference if he truly wants to take an NFL job
Not entirely true though, allegedly there is currently $50M buyout that an NFL team would have to pay and that's a pretty big poison pill for anyone. Would I be happier if it was $100M? Absolutely.

I was following the PSU coaching search a bit on the Lions 247. One of the insiders there kept saying Freeman isn't an option, stop wasting time chasing Freeman. Then went on to say Ohio State isn't as much of a threat as people think for him, and even the NFL is not an automatic. They said he is fiercely loyal to ND right now and it will be difficult for anyone, NFL included, to pry him away.

I dunno, what I had originally heard was that it would be handled before our first round playoff game, but now that there isn't a first round playoff game what gives? Best case scenario they announce something before Christmas. Worst case we have to sweat out the 7-10 NFL openings until they are all filled.

I think we underestimate how sweet of a deal an NFL job needs to be for a well situated coach to take it. Harbaugh to the NFL was a theme for years while he was at UM. He only took it when UM was wrapped up in a cheating scandal.

NYG with Dart isn't exactly LAC with Herbert, either. They're still 2-11.

If... big if... Marcus isn't really tied to ND like we think or hoped he is and can be swayed away by the highest bidder, than fine.

He got a lot of benefit of the doubt with early season struggles because we felt he was an ND dude and was a great representative of the team. If it's just because he's just a great representative for whatever school/team he is at, and not ND specific, cool. I know he'll work hard and give it his all, but I'll also stop being so easy to defend him.

Don't lose to Miami because you guys couldn't figure out the QB situation and your seven figure OC didn't give the best player in college football the ball. Don't lose to A&M because you allowed your defensive players and staff to throw a hissy fit because their old boss left them and they didn't trust the new guy, and they didn't have a freaking clue what they were doing. You're big time college coaches making gobs of money. Welcome to gobs of money expectations.

Hope I'm wrong, but if Marcus is going to shop himself every year and we have to match it every year or worry about is he going to leave every offseason. Then don't miss the playoffs in the 12 team era, especially with a weak ass schedule.

If this is true, then downvote my above post and accept my apologies.

Obviously the answer is who knows what's true in these cases. But, this particular dude (user name Brantt) is as connected a dude as I've ever seen. He has to be an agent or an agency employee or something like that.

Without real smoke, I'm not going to be worried about the NFL unless Tomlin retires. Freeman seems EXACTLY the type of coach Pittsburgh would want after Tomlin and they don't fire coaches.
