I guess I have no issue with not watching the ncaa playoffs this year. Last year I watched the championship game but paid for it dearly the next day. So as a detroiter that has the EST zone what is the point in watching the playoffs and not being able to enjoy the finish anyways?

The reason why this is going to get nasty is that it threatens the whole model. Guys like Cole are paid due to both the eyeballs that watch, along with the sheer quantity of product that is produced. But when ND decides its playoffs or bust, others will follow. Less games, less money, less need for people like Cole. In the end it will be a grouping of 3 to 4 dozen teams and Cole will be left on the sideline battling for clicks.

Nothing at all. Fans like to point at one singular moment, players don’t.

That whole play was maddening to us fans (botched snap, can’t make 3 yard throw for 2 after play busted), but not them. Any team with a good coach keeps every play in the WE vein.

Totally get it, but when you run the entire season back…pretty big play. I feel bad for him too, but damn, big boys step up in big moments. That said, he’s one of us, he’s an ND man. Just wish it would have gone differently for him and we can watch at least one more game. Long wait until September.

It’s really simple and not as deep as it’s being made out. If 24 of the EEs were allowed to practice how they were past years, I’d bet ND would begrudgingly play this one for those practices.

With the amount of opt outs ND will have between going pro, the transfer portal, and injuries, how many people are even left? 50? It’s not like they’re gonna rush Schrauth or Jagusah or even Tae back for this crap.

I mean, we hung 40 that game still running Denbrock’s training wheels offense.

We probably would have scored 80 in his final form, I trust CJ, offense

The whole thing reminds me of this meme:

I posted this on the ND Reddit page. For all the talking heads, analysts, & ND haters acting like declining a bowl game is this huge miscarriage of justice and sour grapes, they’re also the same people that told everyone how meaningless & nothing to be proud of our wins in the Gator Bowl & Sun Bowls were in 2022 & 2023. So when we win bowls they’re meaningless games & nothing to really hang out hats on. I can understand & respect the logic behind having that sort of feeling. But NOW when we treat said game as EXACTLY what those same people said it was all of the sudden now we have spit on the game of football. I hope to god we do whatever it takes to buy the best fucking team in the country, I hope we do every (legal) dirty and underhanded thing we possibly can to win next season. We are the forever villains of college football, so let’s give everyone a reason to truly hate us.

Can someone explain what ND gains by opting out of a bowl game?

I’m assuming we would’ve made a small amount of money by participating. Additionally the team would get more practice time. Fans would get to watch another game.

I’m not sure I see the path to change that people are saying this will ignite. I don’t think ESPN will care tbh.

I think dominating another top-15 team would’ve been a better message.
MF motivated these kids to give their all to win 10 straight. You can't just keep pushing them for no reason.
ND has had their fair share of injuries... Why risk more of them over a game that means nothing.
Most teams actually lose money playing low level bowls. Better off directing those resources to the players.

Actually, Kansas St and Iowa state beat us to the punch. They opted out due to coaching changes .
oh… I did not know that. I wonder though that with the playoffs if teams just start opting out due to all the crazy stuff that happens at the end of the regular season and you team doesn’t make the playoffs.
