I’m perplexed this still isn’t solved this late into the season. We’ve rolled Carr to his multiple times on goal to go, cutting an already short field in half again, with really only 1 option to throw to.

Why keep trying it? Where’s a throwback TE or RB leak if you’re hellbent on rolling Carr?

Look at what Mike Bobo’s dumbass is coming up with! Like come on guys, we can do so much better. There should be an offensive analyst assigned with fixing this shit as their full time job.

After watching UGA fingerbang Texas last night it’s clear to me the Smart is in his bag of tricks. UGA looking tougher each week.

Essentially Smart last night with Bobo

Postgame Thoughts:
1. Love's name needs to be included in the Heisman talk
2. When ND got possesion on their own 1 yard line I really wanted a Love 99 yard TD run
3. Carr may not have played his best, but he is a freshman on the field
4. Fields had a highlight reel type of day; hell of a game
5. Nice game by Raridon
6. Tae Johnson has All American potential
7. LB play gets better and better every game
8. Keep going 1-0 every week

Go Irish ☘️

Fields and Raridon are perfect against that defense. They are tall with a large wingspan. They played well against the Pitt loaded box and 1-1

With full sincerity I think the solution is to go Buchner on short yardage / goal-to-go and just run the Riley Leonard playbook. The Carr QB draw was BY FAR the best executed red zone play of the day and you could just do that kind of crap all the time with Buchner.
I am fully on board with Buchner being inserted as the short yardage qb, a la freshmen year Tebow. When ND was backed up on their own one yard line, we saw Carr sneak it and look like he didn't have any feel for finding a crease or following Guerby/Sully for an easy pickup.

The Dude can no longer abide slow developing shotgun handoffs to gain 6 inches with the d selling out and meeting Love/ Price at the mesh point. Misery to watch in the context of how good this Denbrock offense is overall.

Hopefully this latest Pitt snafu is what was needed to challenge everything in this regard.

Sorry I’m a bit late and sorry if it’s been covered but I was pretty impressed with their QB all things considered,… he did all he could against a much better team,… he can be a problem for teams n the future. It’ll be interesting to see if he stays at Pitt or goes somewhere with better weapons

I got sick of hearing him called “the 18 year old QB” I was sick of that by the end of the first quarter.

What was it that Narduzzi did this game that got under everyone’s skin? I am happy to hate him but would not mind a short list. I do remember him bitching a year or two back about ND poaching (was that him or some other mid coach?)

#1.. too many haters.. I hate to be this way but... The Irish have gone by the wayside with the newer generation...

What sucks is two-fold... He'll be gone next year and he SHOULD be the first RB taken in 2026 NFL Draft

I get that Minchey runs read option better than Carr. I just don’t see a big enough gap to take Carr out for Minchey around the goal line.

I’d be much more up for Buchner in a first and goal from the 5 situation.

It’s when Minchey decommitted and signed with ND.

But you don't know that he's not. I have confidence in one of the best OCs in the country and MF to be doing what they need to do to elevate. We've been averaging about ~39ppg so we're not exactly scrubs either.
39 is nice but we should be at 49 and he single handedly called a terrible game against Miami. He’s also has been given a full house to work with. If he’s so great where have all the head coaching offers been? He might not want to take one but I haven’t heard any rumblings either.

With your 8 years of experience of football what do you think the issue is with the red zone and with CJ? And please be specific not get under center since that isn't something they do. Break it down x's and o's
I presume you’re talking to me. I’m ok with them until they get inside the ten. Some of the failures have to do with Carr but I think some of it is on the team executing but I just haven’t seen anything creative. Everyone is bunched in tight. Likes the quick run route executed to perfection for the very quick pass to Fields yesterday. Much better play than the failed 4th and inches. Not going under center or direct snap to Love to just leap over the top is a slap in the face of the OL. It’s a “No Confidence” move just like. It kicking a 35 yard field goal was. Can’t give up on a tough run up the middle or a FG attempt. We are going to need both in the playoffs. We might be the worst short yardage team in the top 50. I don’t have all the answers but would be hard pressed to fail more than Denbrock has so far on short yardage. He has a wealth of talent and has failed in this. First and goal from the five? I run Love 4 times.

Heard there’s a term for these types of board members
LorenOnStyles ran back a kickoff yesterday over a 100 yards! Drew Pyne was 27-30 for over 300 yards! Oh wait never mind that was Dante.

Didnt he suggest we tried to sign that Pickett?

Edit: yes.

"According to the Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi, a man who seems about as huggable as a cactus, Notre Dame reached out through the back-channels to try and get Pickett to play for the Irish ahead of the 2021 season."

Had to be his 2nd or 3rd worst game this year ... U$C for certain and NC St. being the other, but he is just a freshman. We'll definitely keep him. 2 other things to add to your list ... FG kicking continues to be a mystery and totally sucks, plus WTF is going on (or NOT going on) inside the red zone on offense?!?

Honestly, I got more concerned about the kicking situation after he chose to go for it on the last 4th down. Starting to look like we're not in FG range until maybe inside the red zone at best.

I know a lot of people don't realize there's a mental side to football, but it's obviously the case with our kickers/Schmidt. Schmidt has a monster leg and was absolutely drilling kicks in warmups. He wasn't perfect, but he wasn't missing right. I'm not a kicking expert by any means but i can corelate it to golf going from driving range to the first tee.

It has to be so frustrating to freeman/team. We have a very capable kicker, but we can't get that capability to go over into the game. His wide right misses to me seem like he's tight/tense and aiming, not kicking in the game freely.

Really looks like inside the 10 is our comfort level with kicking. And at that point because we tend to be aggressive we just go for the touchdown.

I’m trying to think of a time I’ve ever witnessed kicking this messed up at any school.

I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to think we may have the best defensive backfield in college football at this point. Pitt really struggled to pass against us except for the underneath stuff. Since we’ve found our best 5 guys we have only given up 5.8 yards per attempt. The only teams with a better average than that are OSU and Oregon, and they play in a conference where half the opponents haven’t learned how to pass

Looking back at the time of possession, the drive they didn’t score at the 1 was really a perfect execution of that Freeman was wanting there, besides the finish. You go on a 8 minute drive that if you score puts you up 21 - 3 and the game is basically over.

Middle Eight was 14 - 0. Perfect execution.

Start of the 4Q a 6+ minute TD drive.

They probably could have scored more but they started running clock. It’s still positive game management by Carr and the offense even if the scoreboard didn’t reflect it on all 3 scenarios.

Chris W (Rakes of Mallow) with a great one on the Nard-dogg:

Narduzzi is such a perfect college football villain and I hope he is on a sideline forever. I can’t recall hearing a bad word about him in an off-field/real life/scandal sense but his entire persona as a coach is so detestable and annoying. I love him and I love how Freeman ghosted him on the handshake after the late timeout* and score.

Pointed out in Freeman presser, this was the first game all year all 5 current starters in the secondary started and finished the game
Yeah, caught that as well. That says something about some of our struggles in the secondary this year. Here's to hoping we stay healthy the rest of the way
