That KKK article was interesting to me since it appears to be constricting history in maybe even a lazy way. I have no doubts about all the detail about the 1924 Notre Dame confrontation, but that didn't end KKK attempts at confrontation like the article implies. I know this because my Father, while at Notre Dame in the early 1930s, took part in a beat-down of Klan members who were marching to the university in a sizable confrontation. (This was about 1931-32, but I don't have an exact date.) Dad was a junior or senior, I think. They heard about the Klan demonstrating in South Bend and then planning on going on to Notre Dame. Dad was a stud. He and several of his friends (and probably lots more) went into town and came out of alleys picking off Klan members in their robes and pulling them back into the alleys for "unfriendly purposes." He said that the March got quite "diminished" and less enthusiastic over time. ... it took many years to beat the crap out of Indiana KKK. (Also Bob Knight was no friend of KKK as the cheap shot title of the Isiah clip teases inappropriately. He was a hard-ass drill sergeant type person, yes, and with an exceedingly dry sense of humor. High standard guy. Tough to work for. etc. Think USArmy ... he coached there.)

Thanks fellas. All great takes. I'm not sure I like the whole NIL situation but I guess I just have to get with the times.

Hell, I'm so old school I still want the 59,075 seat stadium back. 🤣
I dont mind the NIL, just the stupid transfer portal free for all is what bothers me.

One thing I have noticed about Indianer.....they sure look fast.
Couldn't say one way or another. They play incredibly smart. Everyone is where they are supposed to be. They're in position to make plays and they make them. They tackle, they don't miss assignments, everything is pretty tight and packed up nicely. Very clean, disciplined and structured. You have that many seniors, though, you should be all of those things.

I wish we could play like this in the kicking game. Especially extra points.

As Havlicek always said when asked about Knight…”I hope he coaches better than he played”

About the Havlicek quote: Yep. I saw that OSU team play twice in the NCAAs --- Knight was a bench warmer. (Havlicek, on the other hand was an incredible stud. Bill Russell said that Havlicek was the best player he ever played with.)

We would not be favored on a neutral field vs IU right now, nor would any of the SEC teams mentioned in the previous posts. The only team that would be favored right now against IU would be Ohio St.

I think any of those three and Ohio State can beat IU on a neutral field. You have to be talented, disciplined and well coached to beat IU right now. @notredomer23 points out they have a lot of seniors on their team. Guys who are 22-24 years old and have been playing college ball for 4-6 years. That experience pays off right now.

Coming off of that BC game, I honestly don't know if ND could beat IU right now. That game likely takes place either in Bloomington or on a neutral field. We'll see. Cross that bridge when I get there.
I'm guessing ND won't be using prep time to prepare for Navy when playing Indiana, so I'm not going to let the BC game persuade me.

They were coming off of a bye and played subpar against an inferior opponent. They're also not new to Navy game prep. Ask any of those coaches and they won't use it as an excuse. I'd bet money on it.

Special teams were basically garbage. Probably missed Christian Gray. A lot of the same issues we've been seeing all year and have been saying "that needs fixed" or "it has to get cleaned up" are still prevalent. Sloppy, too many penalties, the usual.

I know it was only their third road game of the year and first in a month, but it wasn't great.

To me an ugly win is better than a loss any day. I don't care if we win by 1 point every game. Just win. 👍

Yes, fun is winning and winning is fun. That's not my point.

If IU played ND today, I don't think ND wins. Very simple. That's predicated on every snap both teams have played leading up to this very moment.

At the moment, we don't need to worry about it, though.

I think IU based on merit and margin of victory is the #2 team in the country. I don't bet, but if I did, would I bet on them in the playoffs? No, seeing is believing for me. But hypothetical point spreads in the playoffs is a different conversation than what they've done through 8 or 9 games.

I think if they catch a team with clear talent superiority and better depth they will eventually break, similar to last year (to be fair, this year's IU team is better than last year's).

But, they have been housing teams and playing good football so I'm good with them being anywhere in the top 3. Those top 3 teams to me are all interchangeable enough that I wouldn't gripe however they were ranked.

I don’t follow IU closely, but it seems like they’ve managed to stay relatively healthy for most of the season. Over the past couple of weeks, they’ve started to take some hits - lost a LBer, a DE, a guard and I think their WR is banged up.

Maybe their luck holds, but their ability to make a playoff run probably hinges on staying healthy, especially up front. I doubt they have the depth to replace multiple lineman on defense or offense.

If IU and ND get matched up in the playoffs, it’ll probably come down to who’s healthier.

Their toughest game left might be tomorrow at Penn State, who is in freefall. You have to assume they're going to beat PSU, Wisconsin and Purdue. It's college football, though.

IU's closest win was at Iowa by five points, and that was before their bye and trip to Oregon. Both Iowa and Oregon would be unbeaten at home otherwise. They have won handily against everyone else.

Their schedule has certainly been well timed with Cignetti's arrival. No Ohio State, no Michigan, post Franklin Penn State, one west coast trip for a Big Ten game. Again, these are all games IU would not have otherwise had won before and now they are. Props.

Lame duck teams with interim head coaches usually got one good game in them. Usually at home on senior day or close abouts, youd hope if PSU has anything in the tank they can put up a fight this weekend

I'd love to see it. I think if anyone deserves an upset and a little bit of humility, it's Indiana Football.

Never thought I'd type that.

Really? I haven’t seen their players talking and acting like the players of old at FSU or Miami. Now if you mean Cignetti, then that’s different.

Nobody likes an upstart. When Cignetti leaves and IU returns to normalcy all the B1G bluebloods will take a lot of satisfaction running up the score on them

Not sure about the players, but the fans 10000%. People have noticed BYU fans like to chirp, honestly they look like the most humble saint you can imagine compared to IU fans. I've legitimately seen them discussing how many touchdowns they would beat Alabama by, the only question was 4 or 5. They're the ultimate example of "money talks, wealth whispers" in a sports context. IU and PSU fans were easily the two worst fanbases in the playoff run last year.

I give them credit, I went from forgetting IU has a FB program two years ago to hating them and that is a credit to their success. But they absolutely need to be brought down multiple pegs. I would probably even cheer for UGA over them in the playoffs and that feels downright disgusting to type.

Mostly him, but the whole situation. Let them remember what it feels like. Could be the best thing to happen to them.

Telling your team to focus on a team that you aren't playing next is going to make them let their guard down. It's just human nature. I think they'll be fine going forward, injuries pending.

It'll be interesting to watch IU down the stretch in November... It looks like a few of their frontline guys are starting to get nicked so depth will be tested.

Depth is certainly a spot one wouldn't expect IU to be at the same level as many of the other CFP contenders. Take oline for example. If IU lost their starting G, C, G, could they plug and play without missing a beat?

Interested to watch it play out.
