I think it is a mistake to make big assumptions about what the weather will be like, and how that will affect the game. We know it won't be 75 and sunny like in LA last year. (By the way, that didn't seem to help ND since USC threw it all over the field.) But I don't think we know it is going to be pouring rain and very windy all game. We'll see. The O/U went down like a point or two, which I believe is consistent with the evidence of the effect of rain on games. Maybe the line will tighten today/tomorrow.

A guy from MGM on the On3 podcast said ND is 15-5-1 ATS in ranked matchups under MF, including 3-0 as multi-score favorites. That's pretty good, although of course we have two Ls this year (we were favored against Miami and A&M). And ND is at home, too.
Yeah, meterology is just a drunk guy making up random shit.

Definitely a bunch of Nancy boys in here this morning. ND by a million. Fuck USC.

They haven't won a game in South Bend since 2011. It will be cold and rainy by gametime. Nut up boys.
This may be their best, most complete team since 2011, maybe 2017.

ND big points favorite but in wind + heavy rain it neutralizes exactly how we would light up their terrible secondary. USC, on the other hand, uses lots of quick passes which will be less affected.

On top of that, ND's ability to stop the run will take a big hit with Rubio out and Craig done for the season will hurt ND's ability to consistently run block (which is already suspect).

USC 31 ND 21 with two missed field goals and three turnovers for ND.
You’re the biggest bitch I’ve ever seen, I swear….

Their best, most complete team since 2011 lost to Illinois? UM win was pretty good, otherwise who have they beaten? They beat Purdue by two scores on the road. They beat Sparty by only two scores at home, who just lost to UCLA.

There is no reason to be scared of this team.

Well, they haven't been very good for the last decade.

Their score will be less than ours. They fool everyone in wildcat and Love throws a td to a wide open Carr.

I agree with all of this except the last line. These are the reasons USC will lose will keeping things interesting.

Looks like we are due for regression to the mean!

Notre Dame wins big. Bad brisket Riley keeps trying to get this off the schedule and USC sheds actual tears.

Aren't you the king of picking us to lose by a million!?!

To be fair, if the weather ends up not being windy/rainy, I think we score 40+ points with ease and win comfortably. We are a vertical passing team and they aren't equipped to stop that without help from Mother Nature. If the weather is shit, then Chris Ash & Co. gotta win the game against the #1 rated offense. Weirder stuff has happened and that would be pretty epic.

So only Notre Dame will be impacted by weather?

If we perform to our standard, this game should not be close — we should a game like this by 17+. We have out-recruited, out-developed, and out-coached this team for a decade. We have out grown USC, they are no longer in our pier group. Conversations about his being a competitive game should not be occurring.

I generally agree with LAX, but we wouldn’t be 10pt favorites rn if Vegas also thought it was a major issue for us.

USC's style is basically weather immune. They run the ball really well and have quick passing game. By contrast, ND takes the top off with deep balls.
They run the ball well b/c opposing D’s sell out on defending their Air Raid passing attack. It’s not b/c their OL is legit. Their best OL, Elijah Page is out & the only one likely to be drafted.

You’re right about rainy/windy weather hurting ND more than SC. ND excels at passes 20-30 yds down the field. SC excels in the short passing game but can also air it out. In inclimate weather, they’ll throw behind the LOS & connect on short yardage passes that are less affected by the inclimate weather.

I remember a little over a decade ago USC saying the same exact thing about ND. USC will be dominant again. Most likely not today, still possible though, but they will one day figure it out and will rise like they always have. Let’s hope ND can at least win 1 more national championship before that happens. How long has it been again?

Wind forecast down to 5-10 mph. Although they are calling for 50 MPH winds tomorrow in Cleveland so who knows.

Rain isn't that big of a deal except that it tends to lead to more fumbles and drops, but wind will kill you trying to drop bombs like CJ does.

If an old timer doesn’t get my humor I must have screwed up, my fault, perhaps I’m the bitch,… maybe we all are,… or maybe it’s just lax, probably the last one,…

Either way I’m nervous as always about this one,… don’t judge me. This game always gets me growing up out there

30-24 Irish. The run game is huge today and we win the turnover battle.
