I'm going on record that I do NOT want Lance Leipold at Notre Dame.

If ever a thread needed to be converted to a food thread... this is it.

On a completely unrelated note, did anyone else notice that Shane Beamer was at the game last night decked out in ND gear?

Brent Pry is also out at Va Tech
Was gonna say wow that's fast but then I looked and getting routed in consecutive weeks by Vanderbilt and Old Dominion (!) will do that, I suppose.

Virginia Tech's people should be reaching out to Ryan Silverfield and his people. Seems like a logical fit on paper.

UCLA needs a guy who has been around. Someone on the rebound probably. Dan Mullen might make sense. That isn't the place for a first time head coach it would seem.

Honestly, UNLV might be the better job than UCLA at the moment. UCLA is basically an impossible task with no institutional support, no real fanbase, etc. They're not ever going to be competitive in the B1G. UNLV you can win 10+ games for a couple of years and leverage a better gig if you want.

UNLV Football has two seasons of 10+ wins. Ever. One was last year under Odom. The other one was 1974 when they were a D2 Independent. I would say if somebody comes in there now and does it back to back, they probably do have their pick of jobs. Odom came close. He got 9 in year one. Nobody has really won there, so if you do, do it quick and get out.

Could be true that UCLA is an impossible task, but people think highly enough of Mullen that if they want to be serious about football they could give him resources. I think UCLA joining the Big Ten does nothing for them ultimately compared to the other three Pac teams now in the Big Ten. Mullen is making $3.5M a year at UNLV. Foster was at $3M. At worst, you leverage for a raise into the $4M+ range and get yourself back on track.

All UCLA can do is call and get told no.

Mora started off well and his last two years bombed. Chip Kelly struggled at first but then won toward the end. Seems like you can win there, but how you sustain winning becomes the trick.

Jonathan Smith's name is being floated an awful lot in connection with the UCLA job. Have to think he'd jump at the chance to get back to the West Coast. If he dipped on his alma mater, he'll dip on MSU, too.

Smith is gonna walk away from $30MM? There's no way that UCLA pays that on top of a new contract and his buyout was just under $40MM last year

Yeah but UNLV is a better football program today, in 2025, than UCLA. It’s also in a much weaker conference and almost made the playoffs last year and this year will be much closer to the playoffs than UCLA. This will be true for the foreseeable future until they remove the conference autobids.

Bringing up Mora and shit is like talking about Jimmy Carter’s policies in response to today’s landscape. Mora coached in a totally different world. UCLA is fucked and no coach will last longer than 2-3 years there.

Mullen is on his last chance to be a HC. He won 10 games 3 years in a row at Florida but bombed out so badly they ran his ass off before the end of the season. If he goes to UCLA he will never be a HC ever again.

It is true the landscape is different. Have guys won there historically is a question you probably want to ask yourself when looking at a job.

Again, all UCLA can do is call Mullen and his people. Gauge his interest. With their money issues, it's going to be a tough sell, but it's not like that's stopped anyone before. Mullen has come out, in mid September, and said he'll be back at UNLV next year. Words not really worth the air they were breathed into.

I'm wondering if he takes a third bite at the SEC apple if something opens up. He's definitely on his last shot at a bigger job if he wants one.

Think UCLA will go after Lynn, the DC at USC.

But I think both UCLA and VT should give a long, hard look at Dave Clawson. Think he'd do great at both spots.
