I continue to use starfield as a relaxing game before bed. The game really did not live up to my expectations but once I got over that, its a solid game.

One frustrating thing was realizing that outposts/mining/manufacturing is of no real benefit. I do it anyway, but labor intensive features like that really should have some payoff. Maybe next time they can let you start/run a company that generates income, let's you hire staff, implement market conditions like RTS games used to with market trading resources. Etc.

Sounds like these Outposts/Mining/etc are much like Fallout 4's Settlements. Ultimately they're unnecessary and don't really do anything for the main game, but they're a time waster I would guess that some people will enjoy. I'm waiting on a deep discount for Starfield, the reviews seem to be up and down so I haven't been in any kind of rush. Let me know if you have any other thoughts on the game, I'm always interested in outside opinions on titles in my Wishlist. I use those to determine which ones I should pull the trigger on sooner or later.

Silksong is living up to my expectations thus far. Hollow Knight was always viewed as a tough game but I thought it was pretty approachable if you figured out pogo-ing on enemy heads. Silksong feels slightly harder which I'm really enjoying. Only thing I'm not crazy about thus far is that most of the NPCs and quests feel like "Hollow Knight, but with a different skin". Like, instead of searching for grubs as your game-long collectathon, you're looking for fleas. It's still early in the game right now though, so maybe it will feel less like that as I get deeper into it.

Us older gamers call that the "Scrooge McDuck technique."

I bought the Batman Arkham collection on the PlayStation store a few weeks ago. Got all three games for 5 dollars. Arkham asylum is pretty dated and I beat it pretty quickly, started my play through of Arkham city a few days ago and I’m stunned how well that game holds up and looks on the ps5. It’s so good if you’re into the lore

I did that last time they went on sale too and have only played about 15% of the first one. Still looking forward to getting back into it at some point again but Red Dead online is my go to especially this month with the bonuses.

Definitely recommend these games.

I'm only about 4 hours in, but it's enjoyable. I find the turn-based combat a bit clunky imo, but I was able to get used to it relatively quickly. At least the basics

Finally caved and bought Baldur's Gate 3. Taking it slowly as I'm still not too familiar with DND mechanics, but I'm having fun so far.

I think the game really grows on you the further you go. I found that I really didn't care for most of the party at first, like really turned off by many of them. However seeing their character arcs and how they changed it made me enjoy them more by the end. There were still a few characters that were kind of "meh" for me, but it was a personal preference thing.

As far as the combat, I think you'll find that the further you go the easier it becomes. It can be rough at first as your gear sucks and your party has few skills to mitigate damage. As you get further those things improve, and your damage gets much better as well. For instance, once your Fighters/Berserkers unlock Extra Attacks it can be a game changer. I found some caster classes to be kind of up and down, and given the developer's choice to cap player levels at 12 your wizards/sorcs don't get access to some of the more uber DnD spells. Casters can still provide big damage with the right builds. Casters have great utility too. Aside from specializing in AOE attacks, I tended to use my Sorc mostly for dialogue help like using Jedi Mind Tricks to win conversations. For single target damage it tended to be my Fighters/Berserkers/Paladins that did the most work.

NHL 26 and Friday the 13th on nes. Never played the former back in the day so let’s figure it out

I know you've seen the Angry Video Game episode for Friday, it's better just to watch him play it and be entertained

The Friday the 13th game on PS4 was pretty fun for awhile, it's a shame it got shut down.

I'm going to try and keep this short as my kids don't have sports tonight, my rare night off during the week

I played Mech Armada over the past couple weekends. It ended up being a fairly short game, I beat it in 15-18 hours, but I also got it on sale for like...$5 and it's normally just $20. It was basically all programmed by one guy with a handful of people helping with the art and sound. It plays very much like a chess match with a 2D isometric board, except instead of using chess pieces you have Mechs that you build to fight against bugs, monsters, and mutant type creatures.

As you complete (Or fail) runs you get access to more parts to start a new run. You also collect Meta points which you use for additional resources on runs, like starting with more energy, or getting more research credits per battle. Before a run you can setup what starting parts/mechs you have available to you via a list, and as you go through each run you'll research available tech and build more mechs as you go. If you fail you restart from scratch, however you keep any Meta points you acquire and any parts you unlock can be researched again on a fresh run. There's a partial RNG element as you randomly get to choose between two parts each time to research, so every run is a little different and there's Challenges available if you find things are too easy.

There's a lot of customizations available to you, and there's plenty of winning strategies you can go for. You can play keep away, which is what I did a lot on my early runs. I took highly mobile mechs that allowed for extra movement after completing actions (With many mech "legs" you typically can't move after an action is done, but some do allow it). I would move a bit into range, pick off enemies, then move back out of range to avoid taking damage. In later runs I found that I really liked the "Defender" chest, which added Armor to your mech each time it took damage. I paired a few of these Defender mechs with Healing rays, essentially letting them build armor and heal as they got hit over the course of the match. It allowed them to face tank most enemies after just a few rounds. Most strategies have a weakness though, for instance the Defender mechs don't work so well against enemies that get stronger as you kill their buddies. If you leave these type of enemies for the end then no amount of armor can save you.

There's 17 different legs to choose from, 29 torsos, and about 35 weapons to choose from. Torsos can hold anywhere from 1-3 weapons, so there's a ton of possibilities as far as Mech configurations. Some torsos have bonuses, like the ability to fire an extra action after a kill, or an ability that increases all parts by one level on that Mech. The weapons vary from short and long range single target damage types, to AOE attacks, to freeze rays, buff rays, flamethrowers, and more. You're constrained to a max of 6 Mechs per map, but if you have enough energy saved up you can spawn additional Mechs if you lose any. You pickup energy to spawn/adjust Mechs as you win matches, but you can also gain additional energy by controlling energy points during battles. You use your research credits to unlock more parts as you're on a run, or you can use the credits to enhance existing parts you've already unlocked.

There's a very basic story, the meat of this game is definitely the tactical strategy. Once you play through the initial campaign the first time it unlocks a new mode and additional story where you have to reach a warehouse to accomplish a task. Once you get back from the warehouse you play through the campaign once more, although it's a bit tougher and the maps change a bit. For the price this is a nice Turn Based Tactical game. It's fun playing around with different builds and trying to think ahead on how to counter the enemy.

Just started this one (not the recently issued sequel.) While I love the cartoonishly cute/creepy vibe, I'm turned off by the fact that you can only save your game when sitting on a bench, and benches are virtually non-existent. This is exacerbated by the fact that it's absurdly complicated map-wise and overly difficult at outset. If I'm able to make some headway, at least let me save it.

Never played the Borderlands games, but played Borderlands 4 with my buddies from highschool last night (we have a weekly game night since we've moved away) and it was a damn blast.

I am not one of those people,… and agree totally with the critique above. I just couldn’t get into it

Top ten game for me. Learn to master pogoing on enemies and obstacles and things will become easier very quickly. Agree the first section is challenging but once you enter the exploration flow state and the knight's moveset opens up a bit its one of the best metroidvania's ever.

I've never been a Borderlands fan. The combat itself is okay, and I love the little Easter Eggs they'll throw in for you to find, like the giant Obelisk from 2001 Space Odyssey. That said, I don't care for any games with cell shading art styles, and I know the developers say it's not, but it's similar and I think a lot of gamers put it in that category.

More than anything I hate all the trash guns/loot that drop and having to sift through it all, or haul it all back to base so I can just sell them off every 5 minutes to make sure I have enough money for things I really need. It's tedious and boring. Diablo is kind of the same way, although you're less inclined to pick up all the trash as money isn't as necessary. For me, games that drop tons of trash loot are not built well generally, they replace good content with loot sorting and that takes up too much precious game time.

That said, I'll probably end up having to play Borderlands cause one of my good buddies loves the series and we haven't had anything to play lately.

I finally got around to playing Star Wars Squadrons over the last week. I didn't do the Multiplayer, which is what I'm guessing the game is really built for. I just played through the campaign, which is only about 8-10 hours. It was okay, it's more like a long form Tutorial with a story. I was hoping for more of an old school "TIE Fighter" experience, and the missions are okay in that respect, but not quite the equivalent when it came to mission complexity and difficulty. The story was okay, like a C+/B-. I was going to play this game years ago, actually got it for PS4. Then I decided the game would be more fun with a joystick as that's how space battles are meant to be played, so I waited for a PC sale. I definitely enjoyed it more flying with the joystick, for me it's nostalgic. Calls back to the old days trying to get X-Wing and TIE FIghter to run on my dad's Windows 3.1/95 computer.

Like I said, campaign is pretty short, but I assume the multiplayer is what the game was really built for (Although I'm not sure anyone even still plays it online, may be AI ships only at this point). There's a lot of stuff you can unlock through multiplayer including ship colors, decorations for your cockpit, weapons, etc. It's only $4 on sale right now, so it's dirty cheap.

My old man has played that a bit, really enjoyed it. Didn't enjoy it as much as Snowrunner and Roadcraft, but still played through the whole thing once.
Yeah it's definitely not as good as snowrunner. The crazy part is that a majority of these games could be even better but most of the time the devs are lazy and content with the content that's already out because they are getting paid either way.

Kinda like how Rockstar abandoned red dead online. They know people love the game and will buy it even if they don't put much time in it anymore.

Currently enjoying this one. Good for those who enjoy taking things slow, though you can absolutely cruise through if that's your preference.
