The strip casinos are down like 11% revenue or something while the locals casinos are up like 15%. The locals don't go to the strip except for Golden Knight games or football games
While locals didn't hit it up a lot, Red Rock Casino in the Summerlin area was one I liked.

i actually watched a bunch of march madness games at the Casino in Reno and it briefly was exciting then and the crowd was engaged. But any other time watching old men bet on the ponies was depressing AF

I remember wondering wtf was going on in a 1 vs 16 game - people going bonkers edge of their seat for the start of the game. Bunch of dudes had bet the 16 seed first to 20 points that hit. Never heard of such a dumb ass bet but damn did it make things interesting. Its so early in the day there - I think it was Yale winning one of the first games of the day - it's before noon and people are going nuts on the popular upset pick before the day is hardly even started. Lot of fun and a much slower way to lose money than $25 minimum craps.

Agree mobile betting sucks a lot of vibe out of the experience and ponies are a much more depressing crowd.

Never been to Vegas but my bro just retired and took an Exec job for one of the casino conglomerates. I'll be there soon enough to check it out.

As much as I hate the university of Michigan..... I love the lake towns in Michigan. We went up to the Glen Harbor/Arbor area and it was so perfect for a young family. Far less commercialized than more southern beach locations, quiet but lots of little local shops dappled about. Super quiet/chill beaches: at one point we had around 2 hrs on a beach completely to ourselves. Threw the football, read, hunted for sea glass.

VDP recommends!

Went Grand Haven several times for my previous job. Nice little tourist town. Don't visit in the dead of winter. Holy Shit!

yeah nice town and the Coastguard festival is great (this past weekend). They had to close the beach on weekends before though cos Muskegon's finest would come down to start fights and the local cops got fed up of it. Anywhere south of there is really FIP country. Going up to Leeland, TC area and Old Mission Peninsula is beautiful country. Everyone has got to go up there once in their life.

Cheaper to fly to NZ and chase Tahr. Nice!
My friend in Kodiak lived in NZ for a short time and hunted Tahr. Part of the visit is harvesting high quality protein, the other part is just old friends getting together. We lived in Alaska for many years and go back twice yearly to fish and hunt.

I was in Vegas last week. Never had been. Took my wife to the Sphere for Backstreet Boys. Also, preemptive “fuck you guys” — it was a good show. I would not have gone to see them in like Chicago or Indy, but the Sphere was sick.

Vegas is an interesting place. Yeah sure it’s expensive, but I didn’t have any notion it wouldn’t be. You can find semi-affordable places off the strip, but it’s like being down at Times Square—the location is part of the cost. We stayed at Caesar’s, but gambled in all the big ones. I sort of preferred the feel (and stale cigarette smell) of the casinos on Fremont Street. The nostalgia was palpable.

Saw way too many kids around. It would never in a million years occur to me to take my kids to Vegas.

Got a week long lake house airbnb at Big Stone Lake on the South Dakota/Minnesota border the week leading up to labor day weekend and week 1 of college football. It's all I've been able to think about the last month or so and we're getting dangerously close to having a bad case of 'fuckitallitis' as it creeps closer and closer. Week straight of walleye fishing in clear water during the morning and drinking 15 beers and barbecuing in the afternoon

Literally cannot wait

I live in Grand Rapids Michigan. There are TONS of great places in Michigan to visit. Even Ann Arbor (minus the university of course). But the town of Ann Arbor is pretty cool if you like old time charm etc.

Many great beach towns (mostly on the west Coast of Michigan) and tons of great beaches towns and harbors up north.

My dad’s family used to have a small cabin on this lake growing up. I was bummed they got rid of it before I was born.

Fremont Street was pretty neat IMO. Not sure what day and time you were there, but when we were there, the number of street performers was crazy and their imagination was great. First time I saw Sister Mary Kathleen topless with habit and all. lol

Fremont Street reminds me of Times Square in NYC. Phenomenal people watching. I did like on Fremont Street how they restrict street performers to marked areas so they can’t just come up to you and get all up in your business like they do elsewhere.

I went Sept 2024. Great time. Just packed a 100L bag and just went straight out and back. 8 days total just lost in the woods/lake.

Very cold indeed. The boats were all covered in ice and it looked like it would be May before things thawed out. lol
Sometimes. lol. Usually it's pretty nice around April. But it can be lousy until late May sometimes.
