So I committed in 2012 to get my one and only tattoo if ND win the natty. By the end of the first quarter that commitment was moving on. I am ready and willing to get one if we win Monday night. I have some thoughts in mind and would be using my right gun (20”). Any suggestions?
This would be my first and only tat. I have tried out some fake ones on gameday but have been waiting 12 years for another shot. In my 60’s so don’t want wait until my arm shrinks.

Concur. Nicely done displacing the chub on your arms though.

Well I was a Olineman and have not lost that weight. Definitely no six pack but I’m sure I can outlift most 60 somethings and many others. I’ll work on cutting up but will probably lose an inch on the arms but 19” will still be a bit bigger than your 12’s. I think tattoos still work on soft tissue.

My brother in Christ, if your arms are big enough that you know your measurements, I would not sweat losing a couple inches

My brothers and I have the same bet actually. I'll probably get a small leprechaun somewhere since I didn't go, just brainwashed at birth.

I vote for Notre Dame in a script font on your lower inner lip. Would be super low key yet badass!

In all seriousness, make sure you do some serious due diligence even with a well known artist and make sure whatever style/type you land on getting (black and grey, realism, portrait) that it is something that the artist has multiple examples of in their portfolio. Take some time to really scrutinize those as well. Make sure the work shows that they clearly understand how to draw using correct perspective and proportions particularly as it relates to human anatomy (don’t get too enamored with just killer shading and coloring) and I would even go as far as to ask for references.

At 72 my arms haven’t shrunk but I’ve been thinking about a tat as well. It would also be my one and only. If I do it will be on my forearm right above the wrist. Maybe a shamrock with ND or the leprechaun inside it

Bluto has zero tats but stayed at a Holiday Inn Xpress last night. Solid Advice

Waiting until I'm done working (once I hit 60-ish) until I go hands and neck.

There was an image I saw on another site years ago that was cool. It was an Iron Maiden 'The Trooper' poster but the union Jack flag was replaced by a Notre Dame flag and I think he may have had an ND jersey on.

Really cool looking.

I got Brian Kelly purple face on my back in 2021 and when he left I got it turned into jabba getting choked out.

If it’s for the Natty then what ever it is I’d have dated. Hopefully, under the Freeman era you’ll be tatted up.

that's metal as fuck and my tattoo artist would one million percent be behind doing something like that.... You've given me an idea that my wife is going to absolutely hate

Thanks for the inputs. I have an idea what I want. Gonna stick to the arm. I’m a bit conservative so won’t be visible when I don’t want it to be. I only hope I go thru with it which means we get the big win!!!

Some solid advice here but please don’t ask for references. Any decent tattooer would be put off by this as they know you will be a giant pain and good tattooers aren’t begging for business. Not to mention even someone terrible could find a client who likes their stuff, so anyone who agrees to this rather absurd request probably sucks. Just look at their stuff on instagram and find someone who does good work in the style you want.

I disagree.

I think it’s completely reasonable to ask if they could put you in touch with someone who’s local that they worked on recently and or over the years.

That’s kinda how people used to find a good tattoo artist pre internet.

I dont want to argue but I cant even imagine how this would be useful. If you are given a reference it will be a friend, what kind of useful info could they provide? If its bot a friend they really don’t even have the right to give out a customers info, I would be pretty annoyed if a tatooer gave some random stranger my info. Pre internet to find someone good you went to a shop and asked to see a portfolio of pictures of their work. Pictures of work whether internet or real life gives much better indication of quality of work than asking to talk to random customer.

That makes sense, but now tattoo artists are pretty much all on Instagram and you can see a lot of what they do pretty easily. Look around, find someone whose style you like. And then a good artist will usually do a consultation - especially for a first-timer/first time customer - so you can talk it through and get a feel for them (and them for you).
