They will and they should and that’s fine. But also how many college jobs remain unfilled at this point that would be an upgrade? (coordinator-level gigs for Mickens or Gino, a G5 HC job for DMC, etc).

It wasn’t a crazy cycle this year, the playoff team staffs feel fairly stable (though I guess Penn State will need a DC) and aside from maybe Golden, NFL interest seems unlikely, though NFL hiring can set off unpredictable dominoes.

Much like with the portal, hoping the deep CFP run helps keep our crew relatively intact. Though maybe that’s wishful thinking.
Depends on the motivation of the individual in question.

Arizona, Rutgers and Virginia Tech all have DC openings right now. If any of them had an interest in Mickens and he has ambition to be a DC, he probably has to listen. Golden doesn't appear to be going anywhere so if Mickens DC path at ND is blocked, you have to go where there is upward mobility.

If Mickens gets any kind of NFL interest, I think that could potentially see him exit as well. Gino is in a similar situation if he ever wants to call plays again. Denbrock likely isn't moving.

It really all depends on what is going through the minds of these individuals.

Belichick said it was the best available NFL job. Carroll expressed interest. I don't know if anyone they've requested to interview has said no, but they've had quite a few people show up for one that could have easily done so.

Sark just signed a #1 class and will be a natty favorite next year. He’s got that thing rolling. Would be pretty wild to leave now.

Maybe it was his demeanor or body language through out the playoffs but he just didn't seem fully bought in. The energy seemed lacking. Idk if it's the current landscape of college coaching getting to him or the pressure at Texas but the vibes are off with him.

Gate E, which will then be Freeman Gate, I believe. The better question is where do they put the next one since I believe all the stadium gates will be taken.
Rockne moves to the library quad and the players touch it during the player's walk before heading into the stadium?

I think they regress further next year unless they do A LOT more in the portal. Their best chance was last year. They lose a ton on the oline, dline, and secondary. That on top of everyone is just assuming Arch is going to be an improvement over Ewers.

I wonder where Freeman ranks compared to other coaches? My very serious and well researched ranking:

Tier 1 - Winners
1) Kirby
2) Dabo

Tier 2 - Future winners
3) Lanning
4) Sark
5) Freeman
6) Day
7) Deboer

Tier 3 - Generally stable winners "Local steakhouse -nice for a good meal if you can't head into the City for better"
8) Franklin
9) Kiffin
10) BK
11) Riley

Tier 4 - Could be really fun if they caught the right situation "The crazy chick you think you could calm down" and Kyle Whittingham
12) Drinkwitz
13) Heupel
14) Norvell
15) Whittingham
16) Deion

Tier 5 - DBags who have won before just Cignetti he'll tell you and Mike Elko.
17) Shane Beamer
18) Cristobal
19) Cignetti
20) Elko

Notable exceptions: Lance Leipold (Cool you won 9 games at Kansas are 102 years old), Venables (Thank you for sinking Oklahoma), Chris Klieman (actually good coach), Kirk Ferentz (wow you coached a long time congrats), Mike Gundy (see Kirk Ferentz)

Loser cowards etc. ranking
1) Nard Dog

I assume Rhule would have to be somewhere on this list.... tier 3 or 4 probably.

This is an excellent start but is anybody else interested in having @TorontoGold finish up Tiers 6 through 20, especially the analogy descriptions? If Tier 4 is already at "crazy chick", one's mind wonders what Tier 17 might be described as. Flaming dumpsters floating down a river? Fist-fighting Karens? Get on it, man.

Was Just looking at some of the numbers after having scoped through this thread's recent posts.

Kirk Ferentz became Iowa HC in 1999. He has 204 wins. Most among active coaches.

Dabo became Clemson HC in 2009 and he has 180 wins. Second among active coaches.

Third with 175 wins: Brian Kelly.

Freeman is amongst the elite coaches in Notre Dame history with his win percentage. I took out coaches that coached fewer then 20 games. Pretty crazy after starting out 0-3.
