I’m sorry but all of you are being dumb and I’m saying this as a Bears fan lol. Of course he’s appealing to the Bears, they love keeping tabs on the head coaches of the midwestern powers and let’s be honest Marcus Freeman is extremely impressive. But it’s too soon and even the Bears know that. Let him get some more seasoning in CFB and then pull a Pete Carroll.
I get why it would be appealing to the Bears. Why would it be appealing to Freeman?

Freeman would have to be an idiot to jump in with the Bears right now. NFC North is a tough division, and the Bears are way at the bottom of it. Lions have been killing it, Vikings are playing well, and Green Bay is also pretty good. Whoever takes the Bears job is walking into a long shot, and probably a bad move for their career. The Lions don't appear to be going anywhere anytime soon, and I don't see the Bears making up much ground on the other two.

Winning at the highest level is very appealing to all coaches. I also don’t think Freeman would want to leave now even if we win a Natty but let’s not pretend like basically every single high level coach isn’t tied to pro openings every few years.

Eberflus made 4.5 million a year. I believe it was reported that Marcus’ new contract puts him in the 9 million a year ballpark. Also, I believe it was Sampson who reported that there’s no out clause for the NFL or OSU. So, the Bears might want to talk to him, but, are they going to want to pay the buyout and then pay him want he’s making at ND?

No, the Kevin Warren who is the Bears CEO went to Arizona State.
Kevin Warren got his JD at Notre Dame. He got his MBA at Arizona State. Penn for undergrad, BS at Grand Canyon.

Coach Free mentions meeting Kevin Warren when Free was a guest on The Pivot Podcast. They're definitely acquainted.

The Bears could very easily have been 12-5 instead of 5-12. Belichick said it was the most attractive job open in the NFL. He was interested. Pete Carroll is interested. There are pieces in place to win and they're not terribly far off as their record and recent history would indicate.

That being said, Freeman and Warren know each other on an acquaintance level. The Bears are interviewing a lot of people. I am not worried that Coach Free is coming to the Bears. As a Notre Dame fan, I do not want him to leave. As a Bears fan, I'm not at all interested in hiring him because I don't think he's the hire that gets them closer to a Super Bowl.

Admittedly, I only looked at the blurb on Wikipedia, didn’t actually open it up and read it. They only listed ASU in the blurb. 🤷🏻‍♂️

According to the full Wikipedia entry anyway, Warren not only got his JD at Notre Dame, he actually taught Chris Zorich in a class at Notre Dame Law School, and when Warren opened his own sports agency firm, Zorich was his first client.

Regardless, he can fuck all the way off when it comes to hiring Marcus Freeman.

Which bears are you referring to? Trying saying that for a team you’re not a fan of and see how hilarious it sounds. Browns could very easily have been 14-3 instead of 3-14. The panthers could definitely have won 12 games, instead they won 5…

Browns were 6 wins at best this past season.

Panthers, maybe 7.

Watch the games. Coaching/clock management cost the Bears 3-4 wins this past season. Minimum. They lost on a fucking hail mary.

Nothing hilarious about it.

The point is the Bears have pieces in place that make the job attractive in terms of their roster and personnel. Everything else....well, we'll see.

The Bears are a mess, too many cooks in that kitchen. Marcus Freeman has the better job now.
Correct.

They've interviewing everyone and their brother. They can talk to him but that's about it.

This dude has 6 kids and just got himself generational wealth. His first job at Kent State was for $40k and that was 14 years ago. Seems like a long time ago, but in terms of a coaching career for a guy his age who should have been playing to have a contract EXTENSION at 38 with Notre Dame of all jobs, you don't mess with that.

It is objectively hilarious to think any team could have won 2.5 times the amount of games than they actually did. Maybe if they had an entirely different coaching staff and mostly different players?

The commanders dominated the bears and it was a miracle the bears were ahead for the hail mary to even occur. Watch the games.

It is not quite as attractive as bears fans seem to think. A gm on the hotseat is a very dangerous thing for a franchise.

Start with coaching staff. There were 5 games all season they were absolutely not in or able to win. The rest of them they were within striking distance on the scoreboard. With an average coaching staff they win a lot more games.

The Bears led by 3 with 25 seconds against the Commanders. That's a 97% win probability. Hail Mary passes are successful once every dozen attempts, and Rodgers has done it three times (Andy Dalton 2). I watched the game. Sadly.

The roster is attractive. There's zero question. Coaches and pundits agree. Whatever Bears fans think is irrelevant. Patriots have a ton of cap space. I don't know who wants to go work for the Cowboys and Raiders, but I'm sure there is someone. Bears have a roster in place that while not perfect has some talent. Caleb Williams went 326 pass attempts without an INT under the coaching leadership of imbeciles.

Having gotten totally off subject, Marcus Freeman isn't going to the Chicago Bears or anywhere else.

I don't think there is a secret why NFL teams might be interested in at least talking to Coach Free. He is pretty clear and deliberate about what he wants to do. Run the ball, play good defense and special teams, have a tough and physical team in mind, body and spirit. It's why Vrabel is so respected and was so coveted. He's clear and concise about what he wants to do.

Yes, the timing sucks, but this is what comes with having someone that is actually good at what they do. Other people are going to be interested in them and interested in speaking with them. You can't expect to have sustained success and keep your entire coaching staff for long periods of time.

That said, the current Trinity at ND is probably going to stay put. Some of these other assistants could get opportunities coming their way. It's the nature of the beast.

They will and they should and that’s fine. But also how many college jobs remain unfilled at this point that would be an upgrade? (coordinator-level gigs for Mickens or Gino, a G5 HC job for DMC, etc).

It wasn’t a crazy cycle this year, the playoff team staffs feel fairly stable (though I guess Penn State will need a DC) and aside from maybe Golden, NFL interest seems unlikely, though NFL hiring can set off unpredictable dominoes.

Much like with the portal, hoping the deep CFP run helps keep our crew relatively intact. Though maybe that’s wishful thinking.
