I want to say there hasn’t been a single “upset” in the playoffs - the favorites have won every single game.

No better game to buck that trend than the one for all the marbles.

Jeremiah Smith vs Texas, Michigan, PSU and IU:

3, 35, 55 and 34 yards

I’m pretty flummoxed where the perception he puts up 150 and 2 tuddies weekly comes from, aside from First Take type folks
I have Buckeye family. I've watched him plenty. He is an absolute stud.

But clearly talented defenses can force the Buckeyes to turn away from him.

Ja’Marr Chase vs Raiders, Eagles, Browns, Chiefs: 43, 54, 55, 35 yards.

…but he’s still Ja’Marr Chase lol.

Sure Jeremiah Smith is capable of low output games (who isn’t), but on expectation he is a damn good wide receiver who has the ability to take over a game and destroy a team.

No one averages 150 yards, 2 TDs - but it’s definitely his upside.

It’s been a wonky playoff bracket.

First round is the only round higher seeds won.

My entire family and friends are Ohio St fans with the exception of one. This next week and a half and likely the week following is going to probably take away three years of my life

Seriously don't like 9.5 point spread. I didn't think it would be near double digits

Scarlett and ugly grey?

It's called red and 1990 Dodge Daytona ugly grey.
OSU has a way of trying to always make their ugly seem good.

Scarlett? WTF.

We really need to beat this red and grey team.

Because the seeds didn't reflect the rankings and the rankings didn't reflect the quality of the teams.

I would argue this has been the exact opposite of a wonky bracket. It has been chalk. Everything went exactly like people expected it to go.

Four pretenders went into impossible home field environments and got smacked. Boise and Arizona State were gifted byes by a stupid format. Oregon was a paper tiger. And people lost faith in Georgia when Carson Beck went down.
I’m not saying the outcomes have been wonky but the bracket is wonky.

Second round 1-2-3-4 all lose
Third round 5-6 lose
Just looks weird 7-8 playing for the ship.
Just fun to see

Of course, #7 was actually #3 in the final AP poll. And #8 is the most talented team of them all. If you were ranking teams based on likelihood to win it, Ohio State have been in most people's top three.

Probably closest thing to an upset was us beating Georgia. Even though the game was basically pick'em, they were the champions of the mighty Southeastern Conference. But, yeah, for all the upsets in regular season college football, in the big games when everyone's locked in, talent and coaching usually wins out.

Tyler Warren killed us on crossers and OSU is masterful at those, especially against man. Wonder if Golden breaks away from man for a while. Also worried about our corners gassed USC style. Everyone loves J Smith but #2 and Tate scare me just as much, you can't over commit.

UT looked to get hosed with the calls and no calls in their favor.
That was PI on 2nd down if It was us last night.

My biggest worry. The officiating. If the game Is called fair, we have a chance. If It isn't, we win. Hands down.
Our Irish have a way of overcoming the BS officiating.
Ohio State got called for 9 penalties

and the Bengals still lose games.

Wasn’t a doubt of talent but the perception going into the Texas game was OSUs offense operates at a unstoppable level

Ohio State was up 14-7 on Indiana at halftime at home and IU didn’t do anything on offense not sure what the worry is about

Exactly. They have one of the best first halves against Oregon and now they are THAT team not the team that’s played the entire season.

Tbh I think we can get a lot of pressure with our DL against their OL. Texas had a lot of pressure on Howard all night. I think this helps with Goldens game plan. Also when Howard is pressured he seems to make mistakes.

So, with Ohio State getting in- that would make them the most geographically southern team to get in the championship game the last two years right (replacing ND)? Maybe times changing a bit .

ND undoubtedly the best secondary OSU will have faced. They absolutely need Howard to be loose with the football. He’s an emotional player it will probably be under his skin that we chose Leonard over him. I don’t see a path to victory if he doesn’t struggle (third downs like tonight, TOs)

The commonality on times OSU struggled on O is DT play. IU, Texas, Michigan. DTs + competent secondary. That isn’t ideal for us tbh. Cross will have to have a whale of a game.

One of the main talking heads need to go in hard on Ohio State.

Spend the whole week drumming up talking points like:

“this team spent $20 million to win a title this year, and it would be a cataclysmic failure if they don’t”

“despite a few road bumps along the way, this team was the favorite to win it all pre-season, they aren’t sneaking up on anyone”

“Jack Sawyer was held back by a towel boy as Michigan planted a flag on his field, but the Irish offensive line won’t have the same luck”

“this team avoided any and all significant injuries all season, we will see this team at absolute full strength”

“Ryan Day needs this moment to exorcise his demons”

The pressure is squarely on them. Make them feel it. Nobody expects this to even be a close game.

And right when Day calms down and locks in, have Lou come out and poke him with a stick, even offering to meet him in the parking lot after the game.

One thing to note as well. PSU thrashed us running the ball for a lot of the game. I wouldn’t be surprised to see OSU try to run a bit more… but Day and Chip might get in the way of that.
