I'm giving up being a rep monster. I will no longer beg, plead, cajole, or threaten for reps for the forty days.

Also, I promise not to invite Arabia.

Okay, spill it. What did y'all give up for Lent?

I gave up alcohol. Since I'm also not trying to be completely morose, but wish to actually do something that will enrich myself, I've substituted my normal Netflix time with reading. So no more mindless Netflix, instead I'm reading.

I'm thinking of doing something novel this year:

I'm thinking of giving up being Catholic for Lent.

After the day I've had I'm giving up being pleasant. Just doesn't pay. People suck sometimes.

I'm giving up the same thing I do every Lent...I'm giving up not eating meat on Fridays. It's not that I'm trying to be a bad Catholic, I just always forget...most of the time. Usually I find myself making sandwiches on a Friday, I finish eating and think "crap, today was Friday." That, or I'm in the drive through because I'm in a rush, I pay for my food and realize "crap, today was Friday."

To be honest, I find the whole practice kind of stupid. It's a self imposed ban by the big wigs of the church, not something that came down from the Almighty. I'm fine with giving a vice up for Lent, it makes sense to better oneself and all that. I just think the meat stipulation is stupid as a requirement. It was banned in olden times because it was traditionally seen as a luxury, something that was reserved for feasts and celebrations. That's no longer the case today, meat is everywhere and in my culture it's seen as the primary food group for every meal.

I'm going to the grotto every day. Moved off campus this year and have really struggled to make it there consistently, which sucks because it's one of my favorite spots on campus and I used to go daily (living in Zahm, as the username would suggest).

On a different note, I've always been a fan of doing something every day rather than giving something up. Giving something up can tend to feel arbitrary in my experience, but focusing on doing something you should be doing anyways but aren't can be really rewarding.

Both are helpful. Sounds like you've got a great plan!

You know it's lent when every fast food joint is running the fish sandwich deal.
