I really think I'm neutral when it comes to officiating. I almost couldn't listen to the broadcast because they always dismissed a controversial call against ND and seemed to always suggest anything positive for Georgia was a great call.

The no-call on the mugging of Jayden Thomas wasn't even discussed after Gray was flagged for a small pull on GA's WR.
The no-call on the face mask of Riley Leonard that everyone saw everywhere.
The absolute robbery of the converted first down that the announcers tried to convince the audience was a good call before the rules official said, "No, that's incorrect"
The Kiser "delay of game" call....I guess, maybe, was correct?
The 4th & 13 stop where they said Kiser tackled him! WTF were they watching. There almost wasn't any contact until the ball hit his lower back. The WR made no attempt to go back to the ball. If he had, it would've been obvious interference because Kiser would've smashed through him, instead both of them moved in tandem away from the football.

I'm not bringing up small stuff that can always be argued: holding, unsportsmanlike penalties (of which I saw a few that could've been called on both sides). I hope ND has now earned equal footing with the refs in their next game. Just call it even and let the guys play football.
I've been watching sports on mute for years. It is difficult when there is company, but as often as I can. This stems from Ken Harrelson (White Sox) and Pat Haden (Notre Dame).

I was absolutely fine with the PI call on Kiser. I knew it was coming, and it frankly drives me nuts when pass defenders do that. At some point these guys need to be taught to turn and look for the ball. They'd have picks galore if they did.

Guy I went to grad school with referees varsity football here in IL. He said that in most cases, in most games, you can find something to call on just about every other down. Especially when the game is a couple of mediocre teams. Last night wasn't that, and it wasn't high school, but I tend to think it's a tough job regardless of level. Any sport. And a thankless one.

Agree with your sentiments here.

Friend of mine who's working his way up into D1 level has said that too. NYE we briefly talked about this exact point. He said you essentially join a fraternity of refs and there are spoken and unspoken rules within each group of judges on how to call a game. There's a fine line between calling every single thing you see and swallowing your whistle in times that could lead to bias. He said it's been a difficult road to manage, but he's learning the ropes.

Still amazed how Golden and the defensive position coaches got this D to shutdown Georgia. It looked to me that Etienne was a little timid after getting handled in the first series. Was worried Mills loss would be huge, but they got everyone on D to step up. Was there any defensive player that didn't have a tackle or contribute in some way?

Maybe already mentioned, but watching the end again, Sean McDonough IMMEDIATELY chirps how this was one of Georgia’s worst recent teams, and one of ND’s best, trying to justify what we all witnessed as a fluke.

Let ND have their moment, you insufferable prick.

I watch the games on mute too. Total game changer imo.

I don't have a problem with the Kiser PI call from the sense that it is correct. I have a problem is any time an underthrown ball like that happens, regardless of team, it gets a DPI. I think there needs to be an adjustment for this in the rules book.

Of all the clips last night this is the one I can't stop watching. Former high school OL, and can confidently say that moving people with your buddies is the most fun thing in the world.

He delivers such passionate, resonating speeches to his unit.

It is the polar opposite of Joe Schmidt’s corny ones.

The big uglies are in formation, ready to go to war with their general after Coogan’s speeches.

Is that code for cunnilingus in the Cack household?
lol no. It means she is punishing me by making me make a complex meal late at night after her dawgs got neutered. She plays long games like that.

Funny enough though our safe word is in fact “pork and beans”

Sorry, this is awfully dark, but humorous:

Two things that stuck out to me early in the game

1. How in the world can you call that an incomplete pass on the 3rd & 9 during GA's opening drive when the ball.... went backwards... regardless if it was a fumble or not it should not have been called that way from the get-go

2. Going into this game I was hoping ND could hang (I admittedly was pessimistic) but the play that completely flipped for me was that Shuler fumble. In yesteryears that play happens TO ND during big games not BY ND. Seriously though look at that play again... it's 3rd & 2, clear running situation, and our d line pushes them back a yard with Cross/Hinish/Rubio. Any concerns I had regarding our DL evaporated in that play.

The Kiser PI is my biggest football pet peeve. We were punished for getting to the quarterback and having tight coverage and they were rewarded for a bad pass. It's anti-football to throw that flag and I think the quarterback throwing short should be treated like a tipped pass.
No, it was the right call. You can’t touch the guy and face guard. Had Kiser turned to the ball, it would have been a no call.

Can't imagine being a sox fan and not loving hearing Hawk, but to each their own.

That’s a good observation.

Usually these teams steamroll the LOS on 3rd and short and pummel us with conversions non-stop until we are demoralized and gassed.

Our defense did the demoralizing. It was a thing of beauty.

I still can't believe they called illegal shift on Faison.
Announcers: clearly a penalty, just inexcusable. Riley Leonard should be stripped of a scholarship.

Rules analyst: yea I'm not seeing a penalty, not sure why there's a flag.

Announcers: well I think it's because two people moved and blah blah blah

Rules analyst: Yeaaaa, that's not correct. In fact, either scenario, it still isn't a penalty.

Announcers: oh look, something to change the conversation.

I usually hate first take but they just had a 20 minute long rant including the criminal Cam Newton where he doubled down on his ND hate.

I legit love how nobody is saying that since everybody can pay players now that the SEC is falling.

Shane gillis was the one with the big enough sack to say it to Saban. Who never denied it just got pissed off that he was called out on national TV

The rules analyst perplexes me. Either he is right and the refs are wrong or he is wrong and the refs make the right call. How many’s times do they bring him in and he contradicts the refs. Infuriating.

That was what I would call a “Network Ratings Penalty” or “Competition Committee” penalty.

Game was 100% over if it stood, it was only 99% over with the flag.
