So who should we root for this weekend and why? Would definitely prefer an ASU --> SMU path than a Bama/UGA-type path.

I think the outcomes we definitely want are 1) Oregon big over Penn State, and 2) Clemson in a good tight game over SMU where SMU looks good but maybe lose on a fluke.

The others I’m not sure there is one absolute outcome that favors us.

I am 100% positive we would have been a Final Four team this year without all the injuries, and honestly think we still can be with a few breaks.

This doesn’t feel like the typical bowl game death march where we are playing a team like Bama on a neutral field, where Bama is favored by two touchdowns, and everyone is still betting on them for an easy cover.

We get who we get, and we will beat them in the first round.

Not sure how the rest shakes out, but that first game is gonna be lit AF.

TV timeouts suck in cold weather. That will be the widow maker in a 20 degree night game that will be a 3 and a half hour affair.

Yeah. Anybody can acclimate to a 20 minute walk in 10 degree weather. 4 hrs is gonna get to some a lot more than others especially idle time. Body shaking time.

I still can’t accept the TV “wisdom” that we are the Friday night game. Let the cold weather teams play day games. 80k people freezing for a few ratings points.
And it’s the ratings points that’ll give us ND/Bama they’ll just manipulate the seeding to make it happen.

Hoping for a reshuffling after this weekend to get rid of Bama. I want deserving teams and with their 3 losses, 2 to mediocre teams (including a blowout), they should be at home watching.

I want to see what happens if Clemson beats SMU. Somebody gonna be pissed no matter what.

A sham if that occurs. Their losses would be to two top 25 teams compared to Bama's 3 loss schedule; two to teams outside of the top 25.

I am a little superstitious. I don't like all the talk about the weather. It only breaks mentally soft teams, not mentally strong teams. It reminds me completely of our Texas A&M game this year. All the talk about the weather. And we were just fine. The same exact conversations on here, just in reverse.

I would rather not put it out in the universe and give the other team a mental edge.

fans do tend to make more out of the weather than the teams do. Good coaches have their teams prepared. But everybody remembers the Miami Sun Bowl game.

The only thing I'll say to this...with the style Notre Dame plays, if they can punch a southern school in the mouth a couple times early on both sides of the ball, they'd be ripe to just flat out quitting and daydreaming about their team trip to Cancun

This is why I don't buy the whole "CCG losers won't be punished" spiel from the commissioner.

It assumes that every team's path to their conference's championship game is going to be the same across the board. It isn't. It's also why ND jumps Penn State if they lose.

It doesn't even have anything to do with ND. But as of now, ND is ahead of Ohio State. If Penn State loses, they'll have 2 losses and one of those was to Ohio State, at home. You can't have two teams with the same record and have one ahead of the one that they both lost to and have an inferior resume to.

Ohio State played all three of the top 3 teams in the conference, minus themselves. They went 2-1. The lone loss being a road loss to Oregon by a point. They then beat Penn State at Penn State and crushed Indiana by 23.

Assuming they lose, Penn State will have gone 0-2 against the other top 3 in the conference, having lost one of those at home and another at a neutral site.

Head to head matters, resume matters. You can turn around and throw all that out the window and say, "whoop! Well it doesn't count because it was a conference championship game!" - A loss is a loss.

What I interpret those words as, is that those losses will be carefully considered and won't necessarily lock a team out of the CFP altogether. That doesn't mean they just stay where they are, because that would ignore every solitary factor that the CFP committee uses to determining these rankings in the first place.

So a three loss Georgia team is going to host and jump Penn State despite both teams losing. There's no chance ND gets that draw. We're not that lucky. They'll jump Clemson to 11 in this scenario and keep Bama at 12.

I think this looks too be good to be true from ND standpoint but I also think makes a lot of sense if you look at this from the sec vs big ten show it's designed to be. This almost guarantees these two conf's to be 3 of final 4 spots and guarantees a championship game memeber.

A known poster on ISD says he spoke to someone connected that ESPN gets final pick for who plays Friday & Saturday at the 8pm, & depending on matchup (Bama) ESPN may elect to have that be the Saturday Night game, with Gameday on campus.

If SMU and Georgia both lose, do you think the committee won’t penalize a 4 loss UGA and then kicks a 2 loss SMU out?
