We matchup well against everyone besides Texas and Oregon
ND doesn't matchup well with OSU. I think they'll be an 8 or 9 seed and will play Tennessee. Oregon will get 5 or 1. I don't see Texas dropping past 7.

My just guess is they play SMU, big 12 champ or Bama.

You mean you think OSU will be 8 or 9, not ND, right?

So Oregon wins the B1G championship game against PSU and gets the 1 seed or losses and gets the 5? That pushes us to 6? Or ND 5- Oregon 6. Not that I think they’ll lose in the B1G championship game. Thoughts?

Texas and Oregon both losing probably.

This is where I'm at. If Texas and Oregon both win, we're #5. If one of them wins, we're #6. If they both lose, we're #7.

I think we'll end up #6 after Texas loses to UGA again.

1 Oregon
2 Texas
3 SMU
4 Boise State
5 ND
6 Penn State
7 Georgia
8 Tennessee
9 Ohio State
10 Indiana
11 Bama?
12 Iowa State/Arizona State

This is assuming Oregon and Texas win. Clemson could become the 3 or 4 seed with a win and SMU would probably stay in at 11 and knock Bama out. Thoughts?

I'm borderline pulling for UGA because I think if they lose they could easily be coming to South Bend. UGA isn't a great team, but they have the talent to turn it on for a game. Give me a Boise or Miami type team that we would probably easily beat on a normal Saturday.

This bracket would be an absolute dream setup. Big 12 then Boise and roll into the final four probably more well rested than any team.

Clemson would probably be the 12 seed if they get in.

Clemson only gets in if they win the ACC (and get the corresponding bye). no chance they’re in if they lose to SMU.
They could win and still get the 12 seed. The top 4 conference champs get the byes. Now with another loss Clemson would still be behind the B1G, SEC, Big12, and MWC champs.

if Clemson wins they’re the 3/4 seed. There’s no world where they win the ACC and are the 12.

Already In
Texas
Georgia
Tennessee
BAMA
Oregon
Penn State
Ohio State
Indiana
Notre Dame

Last 3 spots are ACC, Big 12, and MWC Champs.
We want Oregon to win to secure that #5. Worse case is ND is 6th and plays a 3 loss Georgia or Bama at #11. I'm not sure the committee puts a 2 loss SMU in over BAMA.
If Clemson beats SMU and Boise wins the MWC I can definitely see Boise getting the bye at 12-1 and Clemson sitting at 12. If Texas beats Georgia how do you put a 3 loss Georgia team in over a 3 loss BAMA team that beat them? For our easiest route in the playoff, we should root for the higher ranked teams to win their conference championships.

I think when they guaranteed the byes for conference champs, they underestimated (or ignored) the enormous gap in quality between the top teams in the SEC/B1G and the top teams in the ACC/Big12/Etc.

To be fair, last year the final top five were the champions of each P5 conference (Michigan, Washington, Texas, Bama, FSU). That would've been more or less the case for most of the last decade when you consistently had Oklahoma and Clemson representing the Big 12 and ACC at the top of the charts, and in the four-game playoff.

But then this year Texas and Washington (or, in their place, Oregon) are in the SEC/B1G, the ACC's powers have faded and the Big 12 is just loaded with programs that are decent but have hardly ever competed at an elite level. Only one current Big 12 team ever made the four-team CFP: TCU in 2022.

So, yeah, it's kind of bullshit that those conferences are locked in to top four seeds while the loser of Oregon vs. Ohio State (probably the two best teams in the country based this year, based on resume) will be 5th, and us and Texas/Georgia loser and Tennessee and Penn State will be seeded behind teams that we would certainly be favored to beat. But, this can all change and probably will.

ND doesn't get a bye because they will play one less game than conference champions. That's the reason, fin.

It's a good deal that increased ND's chances of getting into the playoff.

Anyone else think that other than Ryan Day, the coach most upset by Michigan's win yesterday is James Franklin? Penn State was sitting pretty with a chance to rest next week and a first round home playoff game locked up. Now he's got to game plan for Oregon where the Lions will finally get exposed, meaning Penn State will end up on the road against a Texas, Georgia or Tennessee in the first round. Love it.

Yeah that’s about it barring upsets next weekend (as if there aren’t always upsets lol)
That 11 spot could go to BYU or Miami but Bama is the likely choice because SEC blah blah.Pecking order re that should be clear this Tuesday. Clemson win steals that bid.
