IU has like 22 Portal transfers this year.... most from James Madison where Cignetti came from. I don't see IU being much better in the upcoming years after this one. We will see come this Saturday how good they really are this year.

You may be right. They just flipped Tyrone Burress and got Baldwin to recommitt. Then they told Julian Lewis to pound sand for wanting a bag just to visit. Serious inquiries only lol. They also have a lot of niu money.

I don't expect them to physically be able to compete with OSU. They are just far too talented. Beating Michigan is a big deal. It's happened twice since 1987. I expect the talent to get better in Bloomington every year going forward.

JMU is 8-2 this season.

I think Ohio State will do just fine against them. Credit to him for getting IU to their best football season ever, but they've yet to be tested.

Was left in charge because of one historic Covid year. Every other season has been disappointing to say the least.
Deland McCullough's name was mentioned by Chris Vannini in The Athletic.

Tyler Stockton's was as well.

He's 63. His daughters are doctors. I really don't see him leaving after Indiana finally gave him a power 4 job and then stepped up with this new contract. He says he wants to build a power there and is flipping a bunch of guys now

If he were 43 and still had a family to support, it would be different.
It’s also really $9M per year because there’s a guaranteed $1M bonus every year, making it $72M over 8 years. And IU committed to boosting the budget for assistants. The Hoosiers apparently think they have a coach who can make them a big boy in CFB, and they want in. He has no reason to want to get out.

I guess it depends on what does Coach Cignetti want at the dusk of his coaching career? Does he want to be known as a guy who turned a Basketball powerhouse into a football one and competed with CFB's best legacy powerhouses? Or, does he eventually want to finish with a glorious run at one of those powerhouses, like Ohio State or ND. Because $ is not an issue for him at this point.

This was always a square peg in a round hole. Add in the fact their QB is abysmal. He’ll land on his feet
This feels like a scapegoating firing. It was going to take more than two years to get that offense into a more modern personnel situation compared to what Wisconsin's identity has been for so long.

Fickell clearly wants to move away from what that offense has been for the last thirty some odd years. You can't really blame him. It that respect, he went out and got a guy who was a pretty accomplished OC. Maybe it helps to have Sam Howell as the triggerman, which Wisconsin doesn't have remotely close to.

You're right, though. He'll be an OC again in short order would be my guess.

Welp Cincinnati(bengals) might be in need for a DC next year.
The Bengals defense has really taken steps backwards ever since Al left. Hopefully them being cheap and what he makes at ND being elevated keeps him in South Bend.

UMass has fired HC Don Brown
It has never been clear to me - a college football loving citizen of Massachusetts - why UMass feels the need to play FBS football.
But if a guy like Don Brown is willing to coach there, they should probably just let him.
At least they could wait til after the trip to Georgia on Saturday. (Their third SEC opponent of the season!)

And there is the answer to your question posed in the first sentence—the 2.5-3 million they’re making to go lose to SEC squads.

Herman out at FAU

Eta: all teams with Owls as their mascot have fired their coach.
Interesting considering he had his scapegoat firings last week in DC Roc Bellantoni and OL Coach Ed Warriner. Both of whom should have no problem landing on their feet again.

The guy is a chode. Wouldn't touch him at this point.

I mean, that bankrolls the football program, sure, but UMass isn’t making any real money here.

We've got a couple of Tom Herman fans on this board don't we? His name has come up more often than not during OC searches or the "fire everybody" dumpster fire threads after a loss.

This guy is 60-36 as a head coach, isn't even 50 yet and has somehow been fired for the second time.
