Changes to atmosphere in ND Stadium?

Not saying the music ND is playing is great, it's pretty terrible. But classic rock has it's place here and there but it has past it's prime and there is other options to play.
I think a variety of songs that the crowd would recognize would work. The goal is to get the crowd loud. I was at the Georgia Tech game in 2021 when Bon Jovi was there. The whole stadium went nuts when Livin on a Prayer played. Heck, Micheatin plays Mr. Brightside and it gets the crowd amped.

I personally wish they would amplify the band music more often

The best seats in the student section are the higher up ones.

The point isnt giving students the best seats. It's about fixing the atmosphere in the stadium. Which means keeping the least enthusiastic fans further away from the field

They can't see the game down there. Those seats aren't just bad you literally can't see if you should even be cheering or not.

Idk if there is a real solution to ND stadium dilemma. Tickets are expensive because of demand. The demand can be met by well to do people. Well to do people are generally more reserved and/or old.

When NDSU got good at football, the stadium was on their feet every down on defense (other than the old high dollar donors who sit close to the field). Now, the tickets got pricy. (I've sold standing room tickets for $100). The atmosphere has sucked for about a decade because the people who would make noise are priced out. ND has a similar dilemma but on steroids with the general nature of ND alums.

ND stadium atmosphere sucks balls unless it is a night game or a large game. The fact of the matter is that ND alums aren't singing Neck or Knuck if you Buck like an LSU crowd. It's a different demographic. Tailgating at ND is great. On par with any SEC team. The crowd isn't. A fifth of the people in the stadium are their just to be there. Maybe another fifth want to be that extreme crowd. As much as others have bitched, at least ND is trying. Nobody gives a shit about Bon Jovi or Chicago. They want to see Bon Jovi's sons wife in a bikini and Shane Gillis in Chicago. I've went to games for 35 years. It's an old ass argument that the crowd needs to look in the mirror and say Candyman 3 times.

42, so even much of Classic Rock is from before my time or I was too young to remember when it was first released. I can recognize that the music appeals to all generations though, not just the Gen X and Boomers before me. As said, it's stood the test of time and they include music that everyone immediately recognizes. Forgive me if I think the songwriters that gave us Bohemian Rhapsody, Stairway to Heaven, and Sweet Emotion are more talented than those that brought us recent hits like WAP, Watermelon Sugar, and Dance Monkey. The later will get some nostalgia play on stations years from now, but they won't have the staying power and commercial appeal.

I was poking fun at the tone of your comment not your musical tastes. Big "get off my lawn" energy lol.

I'm not much of a music person so I don't really have a dog in the fight. That being said I don't think people are suggesting that songs like Watermelon Sugar would get the crowd pumping just because they're popular pop hits right now. Lots of classic rock go-tos just feel played out and generic, even if they are good songs.

I think if we wanted our own "Jump Around" it would have to be with a more modern song. Trying to start a tradition with a 50 year old song at this point would just feel phony. I'm impressed they even play Mo Bamba, some I would add to the playlist would include...

Humble - Kendrick Lamar
All of the Lights - Kanye (they might already play this one IIRC)
Hail to the King - Avenged Sevenfold
Till I Collapse - Eminem
Niggas in Paris - Kanye and Jay Z
Come Down - Anderson Paak
Sicko Mode - Travis Scott

I've been a season ticket holder since 2009 and the atmosphere during game time is bad. ND is a school of tradition and while they can keep their tradition they need to make changes as the times have changed.

I really enjoy talking to all fans- ND's and opposing before the games. Sure it is nice to welcome opposing fans, talk how nice ND's campus is, and learn about the opposing team what I don't already know.

When it comes to game time I ask myself do any of our opponents feel afraid or fear ND's game atmosphere? No & they shouldn't. ND has had games where the crowd has been pumped up- 2017 USC, when Georgia visited, Ohio State last season.

When Charlie Weis was our coach he held some pretty good pep rally's before games, some of his best ones were before our big games. ND needs to bring back the pep rally's the night before as it gets campus that much more excited, especially vs our marquee games.

Game time atmosphere- my moto, make it hell for the opposing team & fans while still showing respect. Texas A&M has their "12th man" moto, Penn St. has their "white out" games just to name a couple. The night games can be a long day, but get a light show that you remember. Have fireworks, this is Notre Dame Stadium, the house that Rockne built- showcase it!

I agree with people here about the music- the last couple of years I feel like I've been at a club, throw in a "dance" song every once in a while, but I agree about going with the classic/heavy rock. Get some sound clips like the Joker's laugh (maybe a stretch).

When I saw NIU celebrating on ND's field after that game they were having fun, they took ND's lunch money & kicked our butt.

The home schedule has been weak this season- throw in a wildcard team, a top 25 caliber team.

ND can do so much more to improve the game time atmosphere and still make it enjoyable for kids.

Not to be snarky, but are there others on here that consistently find this and the uniform thread to be just the least interesting topics on the board. I have been hearing about both my whole life and never cared about either.

This is a bad faith post in general but this sentence is so funny man. This is equivalent to me saying that 90s music sucks and listing Who Let The Dogs Out, Tubthumper, and the Thong Song.

And you can repeat songs. Texas A&M played Mo Bamba three plays in a row when they scored to tie the game at 13. Place was rocking

It’s a simple formula:
- Better music on big downs
- Beer sales through 3rd quarter
- Towels/poms for student section
- More engagement with student section (smoke, t-shirt cannons, etc)
- Save the video board stuff (kids being interviewed, honoreee attendees, etc) for when ND is on offense

Why? That’s just stupid.
Prister noted that ND is trying to hold on to tradition while simultaneously appealing to the new generation which ends up being a failure all around. Evidently they started interviewing little kids or something in the 4th quarter. Prister said the kids were cute & all but what is ND going for in regards to atmosphere w/ such a benign vignette? Both Tims agreed they’d be ok w/ something like that in the 1Q but once the game is reaching apex, it’s time to appeal to the overall atmosphere of winning the game & getting the crowd hyped.

Selling beer/seltzers would go a long way. Let the ushers focus on the unruly drunks vs loyal fans trying to enjoy the game in a supportive manner.

O’Malley said he knew for a fact the DJ wanted to play more appealing music but is not being allowed to per his bosses. Music is huge. The only thing ND has done that is unique to them is the “Shipping Up to Boston”/“Here Comes the Irish” intro of every opening kickoff. Anything else they’ve tried has been embarrassing.

#1 make it more affordable
#2 better schedule
#3 less non football fluff on the video screen

My teenage boys have grown up with nothing but ND in their face, and they think going to a game is boring and not worth the 6 hour drive. They can go to iowa or iowa state games (both of which is filled with families and kids, so that argument is dumb) and enjoy it because they think it's more intense and have more energy.
Going to continue to lose the younger generation if it doesn't get fixed.

This right here. More night games, better opponents.

I get to a ton of games these days but I went to USC last year and the place was electric. (It was also a strikingly adult male crowd. No lines for the ladies room at halftime.) Whereas when you’re playing at 3:30 against Ball State or some mid ACC team, the soundtrack only gets you so far.

I don't even think the atmosphere matters for games like that, though. ND should stomp guts, period.
Well yes, and that’s maybe why I’m not entirely sure what we’re all on about here.

For big games at night the atmosphere (in my experience and I think generally) is pretty good. They put on a show and everybody’s been partying all day. For “bring the kids and grandma” day games it doesn’t really matter. Honor every professor, that fine.

The times when maybe you’d want more from the crowd is when we’re losing to a team we shouldn’t be (NIU) - but I’m not likely to blame the crowd for that - or maybe the occasional tough opponent we play during the day (Louisville this year perhaps). The latter games we should play at night. I think that would help a lot.

I do think this is a scenario where independence hurts us. With the exception of Clemson, our fanbase just doesn't care about ACC teams. When you have a home slate that's all Va Techs and MAC schools, it's really hard to get amped.
