So what's the deal with this cursed amulet? Is it in reference to something?

naw its just a gaming/fantasy trophe like the One Ring in LOTR etc
Word. Thought there was a new game with cursed amulets and I may be missing out lol. Sounds like the premise for a fun game though, a cursed amulet that talks to you throughout your adventure.

I like how that dude has 200 followers and little engagement until that post, then the post garners 75k Likes  Beautiful. He's probably shitting his pants.

Just completed Dark Souls Remastered first time play through. Not nearly as challenging as Elden Ring but I really enjoy these games. I can see why they took off.

Bosses are not nearly as tough but the DLCthrew a couple tough ones at me.

I remember back in the day having such a hard time with Manus & Kalameet. The boss difficulty has definitely come a long way since then.

Kalameet was the toughest for me but I managed to stay under him and not take to much damage while hacking away lol. I did all the bosses with no summons too which felt good. I had trouble with Gwyn until I realized parrying is the way to go.

I missed all these when they came out so after I platinumed Elden Ring told myself I’d go back and do the rest. I beat Sekiro recently but it was the shorter ending so I know I have a lot more to do there. I just needed a break from that. It was very tough for me.

Sekiro is definitely a tough change up compared to the other games’ combat style but it’s very satisfying once you fully get a hang of the rhythm and flow of the fights.

All of the other games are pretty great but Bloodborne is a real standout imo, so hopefully you’ll get a chance to check that one out if you haven’t already.

I play Xbox so don’t think Bloodborne is on that :(

Alright, finally got around to finishing Cyberpunk 2077 and the Phantom Liberty DLC. I started it in the summer, but between kids sports and NCAA 25 I've been playing it piecemeal the last 4 months or so. The game got a bad rap at release, rightfully so given the glitches and lack of optimization, but it ran great on my new rig and I hear it's fine on the next gen consoles now.

I think this turned out to be an excellent game once they ironed out the issues. This is probably the best RPG I've played in a good while. Kingdom Come Deliverance was a lot of fun, and I probably enjoyed the gameplay in Dragon's Dogma 2 a bit more, but I feel like Cyberpunk top to bottom had impressive story and characters while having decent gameplay. Visually it was completely stunning as well. After they squashed the bugs I feel like this game is much better than Witcher 3. I loved how many options they gave for completing quests, and there were several paths at the ending and each one was cultivated differently. Each ending had a different mission associated with it, and in my opinion each was worth playing through at least once (If you finish the game they give you the option to go back and play a different path, or you can just make a save at a certain point and replay from there). The one caveat is there's a special ending that you can be locked out of before the point of no return, it happens during the quest "Chippin' In." That ending isn't necessarily any better than the others, but if you want to see all the endings you may want to make a save before that quest and see what dialogue options you need to choose to make that ending happen. Otherwise you may find yourself backtracking to an old save. It's not a big deal if you miss it, just changes a few details at the end.

Really enjoyed the combat in this game. A lot of people might tend toward the gunplay and build a character down that route, or maybe melee tends to be your thing. You absolutely, 100%, need to do a run in this game as a Netrunner though. It's the closest thing to Magic in the Cyberpunk universe, but it's cooler imo and can end up being more deadly. For those that haven't played the game yet, pretty much everyone in the Cyberpunk universe is fitted with "chrome" or cybernetics to enhance their capabilities. This gives you strength, but it can also be turned against you, hence the Netrunners. You can basically hack NPCs cybernetics and cause all kinds of nasty problems, like Shock damage, Incineration, temporary blindness, Weapon Glitches, Contagion (basically making the target sick up to and including death), knock them out cold, and a variety of other ailments. You can even cause Cyberpsychosis which basically turns a target insane so they turn on their allies, or have a target commit Suicide. Some of these abilities are obviously on the upper end and take time to unlock, but there are smaller abilities that can be just as effective, like Bait which will distract an enemy to come your way so you can split up targets if you're going a Stealth route. The best part is as you get better as a Netrunner it will enhance these "Quick Hacks" in various ways. As an example you can unlock perks where putting a Contagion hack on one enemy will cause it to jump to every enemy nearby him, effectively wiping out an entire platoon with one action if your ability is high enough. There are some gun builds that are probably quicker at killing than a Netrunner, but a Netrunner can also operate from Stealth and if they're quick enough they can wipe out all targets before they're ever detected. Netrunner can be used in pure Stealth builds to augment your abilities, or it can be used to assist in straight combat builds. Those are just some of the ways it can be used against NPCs, but it has other uses too. You can Quick Hack radios, tvs, and other devices to distract enemies. You can hack cars to control them remotely, cause them to self destruct, or also use them as a distraction for Stealth. You can hack land mines to disarm them from a distance or cause them to blow up. You can hack open some doors, as well as access some computers. It's really one of the most versatile functions in the Cyberpunk universe.

One of the reasons I liked this game more than Witcher 3 is the immersion. I found the "V" character far more relatable than a Witcher that lacks emotion and who speaks in the same monotonous voice all the time. Not only that, but all dialogue and actions in the game are done in 1st person, other than a handful of important cutscenes that will show your character in 3rd person. This means anytime you're talking to someone face to face it's in close proximity and it's as if they're talking to you directly. This made some scenes more intimate and intense as a result. You see emotions on a Fixer's face as they're describing a job they want you to do. You notice little facial twitches when you're talking to a junkie. If things go bad (And some things will go bad in this game) you can see it in your friends' and romances' eyes. It all feels very personal and authentic. You get the idea.

Aside from the immersion, there's no shortage of quests in Cyberpunk along with the DLC. I did just about everything in the game quest wise and sunk 200+ hours into the game. There's the main quests, side quests, as well as "Gigs." The gigs are usually short and are more of a money making opportunity. They're not usually tied to the main quest or side characters in any way, they're just a source of cash. That said, they're more carefully crafted than "Pickup 10 sticks from this region." Each one is a little different, and while most of them are simple they give you various ways in how you can complete them. There may be an optional stealth component at times, there may be an optional request not to kill anyone, or there may be a car you have to retrieve and try not to get it banged up as you return it. Some of the Gigs are pretty neat, you'll gain some backstory on the various gangs in the Cyberpunk universe, but they're not crucial to the story. I feel like more effort was put in for the simple Gigs than most RPG quests. Gigs aside, the main quests and side quests were excellent too. I already mentioned the various endings and I feel like each is worth playing through at least once, but I felt like there was some great storytelling in this game, great characters, and if you love a game with grey area choices then you'll find plenty of that in this game.

There's probably a lot of other good things I could say about this game, not a lot of bad other than the struggles at release. I've heard some people say the city felt empty, but I never got that impression. There's a lot of nameless NPCs, but there's a lot of random named ones as well if you scan them. There's a ton of shit to do in the game, around any given corner there's a shop, or a NCPD event where they're looking for help taking down a gang, or a Gig that needs done, etc. I found Night City way more immersive than any cities in Witcher 3, or most cities in RPGs. One thing I was skeptical about was Keanu Reeves involvement in the game. I figured they used him mostly for promotional material or maybe a small cameo in the Cyberpunk world. I couldn't have been more wrong, and imo his involvement brought a lot to the game. He brought way more to the game than I was expecting, to a point I think his character made the game in my opinion.

If you've been on the fence about this game because of the shaky release, I'd highly suggest giving it a shot now. There's a very unique kind of story here, and I think it's worth playing through and letting yourself get lost in the world of Night City at least once. I picked it up during the Winter Steam release and I more than got my money's worth at a 33% discount with 200+ hours in. I'm hoping they do a sequel or prequel to this game at some point, I'd love to see a continuation of the story with some of these characters.

200+ hours???
Sad dad here, I want to play it lol
I mean, you can definitely shave a ton of that off if you skip the Gigs and various other optional stuff, like the NCPD busts. Those don't really contribute to the story, although the Gigs often have tiny little plots of their own (They're just not really tied directly to the main story). The Gigs will be like "So and so pissed off the wrong gang boss in Chinatown. Now he needs you to infiltrate their data center and wipe the evidence from their servers." Others will be like "So and so disappeared near the warehouse by the docks. Go inside and see if you can find their whereabouts and get them out if you locate them." Gigs are mostly there to generate cash and get you experience.

You bring up an interesting point. Not that I don't play them, but I find there's way more repetition in sports games than there are RPGs. Every quest is a little different in a good RPG, and there's sometimes multiple ways to do each quest. In sports games you often get caught in a trap of running the same plays over and over, or fall into a strategy that you use in most circumstances. The opponents change, but the gameplay often remains the same or similar. That's probably why RPGs often resell much better than sports games.

My son has overtaken my consoles… I have my PS5 hooked up to my work monitor, so when I’m not working, he’s playing CFB25 at my work desk. When he’s home and I am working, he’s playing The Show on the Xbox.

This has relegated my gaming free time to my GBA emulator on my Surface tablet.

I recently downloaded the Pokémon Romhack “FireRed: Rocket Edition.”

You play as member of Team Rocket, following kind of parallel to Red and Blue’s stories, seeing what Giovanni and several other characters are up to behind the scenes of the original games.

It is hilarious, well written, well designed, and a good challenge compared to the base games. You can catch Pokémon, but money is hard to come by, so it’s easier to steal them… if you are of equal “rank” to your opponent, and you defeat them in battle, you can steal one of their Pokémon.

You start as a “grunt,” given a customary Rattata and nothing else, and you are only able to steal from little kids, old people, and bug catchers to start. You’re sent to Mt. Moon on your first mission, and thrown right into the mix to figure out the unique mechanics.

As you complete missions for Team Rocket, you rank up and can steal from additional classes of trainers.

I’m about halfway through I think based on the loose outline I looked up (tried to avoid spoilers, because the story is legit good and funny). Having a blast.

The creator(s) really had a good time with filling in the blanks with popular myths, theories and inside jokes about certain oddities from the OG games. If you played Red/Blue enough times to remember some of the story beats, you will truly appreciate this game.

I’m already planning a replay where I go “True Rocket” and build a team with Rattata, Meowth, Zubat, Ekans and Koffing.

Na, I'm with you on this one. I normally like games with time travel mechanics. but not if they include time loops. Time loops are ridiculously redundant. They rely on that mechanic to force repetition, and the repetition becomes the gameplay. In the end you end up seeing the same things over and over...and over....and over...it effectively hides a lack of actual things to do in the game. If there was no time loop and you played straight through you'd be done with the game in the matter of 5-6 hours. So, while the concept itself is kinda neat, in practice it's a bit of a waste of time and can be incredibly annoying. For instance, if a certain event only happens at the end of a 30-45 minute time loop and you happen to screw one little thing up, then you're forced to sit through the entire sequence again to get back to that point. It's both tiresome and frustrating.

While there were certainly some neat parts in the game, I've got no desire to go back and replay it at any point. I'd go back to Outer Worlds first.

Anybody got info on a good Game Boy Color emulator? My preliminary searches haven't born much fruit.

I'd like to try one of the Gen I Pokemon RomHacks now that I've finished the FireRed Team Rocket hack.

I think mGBA is considered the standard for Gameboy and GBA.
