Very much dislike it. More so Stanford and Cal. Would love to see them bolt back to the Pac-12...
Yeah, and none of the pundits have said Cal and Stanford back to the "new" PAC (fill in the number). No idea why not. Seems to make sense.
I guess its got something to do with the money.

Is Markus Burton an NBA talent? A 5'11 guard who shoots 30% from three is not quite the player that NBA GMs dream of.

I only say that because he is a college student and it would be great to see him play for Notre Dame as a junior/senior with the highly touted guys Shrews is bringing in.

Burton like the perfect guy for the NIL era. Never going to be a 1st round NBA draft pick bc of his size, but can be a star in college that we pay to stick around instead of going to Europe.

Wish Demetrius Jackson could have stayed longer via nil

This is definitely where he needs to improve his game, or stop trying. His shot improved a bit down the stretch, but when he settled for threes it always felt like an empty possession. When he attacked the paint, man was he good.

I'm curious how much he worked on perimeter shooting. Either way, I hope he sticks around for a couple more years.

My eyes don't believe what I'm seeing. A Top 5 recruiting class? 👀

Give me Burton over Jackson any day, I think Jackson was overrated and Burton needs to maximize his college career because of his size.

Jackson came in with a established group at ND vs a do it all guy in high school. He wanted to be the star and had to take the backseat at times at ND.

Burton was also a do it all guy in high school and was our do it all guy last year. I think Burton's game can continue to grow.

#1 team in recruiting!!

Bizarro timing there Tony. Must be family or health. Or maybe preseason practice was just God awful.

Some tweets speculating that he retired now, so that his preferred choice would get the job. I'm assuming that means his preferred choice is already on staff.
It’s going to be too difficult to pull a worthy enough coach elsewhere, at this point.

Surely it will be a someone from staff.

Reminds me of the Bo Ryan retirement from Wisconsin - although mid season

If the theory of him retiring when he did was so that his preferred choice would get the job, I guess it has to be Ron Sanchez.

He gave up his head coaching job with Charlotte, to return as an assistant with Virginia in 2023. Oh by the way, he won his conference that year. It appears that there has been a plan in place (at least Tony and Ron had a plan) for over a year.

RON SANCHEZ
Sanchez came with Bennett from Washington State to Virginia before leaving to take over as the Charlotte 49ers’ head coach from 2018-23, posting a 72-78 record that included winning a CBI championship last year. He returned to the Cavaliers this offseason as an associate head coach, and would at minimum be the leading candidate to take over on an interim basis. Sanchez began his college coaching career as an assistant at SUNY Oneonta in 1996.

Look, at the end of the day, as much as relationship building is huge...at some point factoring the school and the athletic environment therein is going to have to come back into the picture with recruiting. Your coach, the stadium you play in, the position you were recruited for, etc. can all change. The constant is the campus you are on. Even if you don't plan on being around for all four years. You can't count on your coach stepping down unexpectedly regardless of reasons, getting sick, dying, being fired for not winning enough or rule breaking, etc.

There was talk that he wanted to do this last April. He chose not to, but now he's changed his mind on the cusp of the season starting. Timing or not, if he wants to be done then there really isn't anyone can do about it. This idea that he owes anybody anything is typical fan entitlement. He's got his reasons, and as inconvenient is that might be for others, gotta respect the decision. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Braylon Mullins committed to UConn over in-state Hoosiers. ND had offered but wasn’t a finalist.

Greenfield Central isn't normally known for turning our college athletes. 6'5" SG. That's a big loss for IU. Surprised Purdue wasn't after him.

Since it was a charity exhibition there was no real shine on this game. But, they won 91-54 over Purdue Fort Wayne.

14 of 16 players scored in the game. And Burton and Shrewsberry each had 18, with Shrewsberry hitting 4 three's and the team hitting 14 total.

My Detroit Mercy Titans compete against PFW in the Horizon League, not a terrible program. I'll take an almost 40-point dub in an exhibition.

Woof. Rough season for DM last year.
Oh yeah. New coach, new hopes. But that was as bad as it gets.

My undergrad years overlapped with Ray McCallum Sr. coaching and Jr. playing when they last won the league. Been a steady decline since.
