He had a couple great blocks and too many poor ones. Raridon got blown up on that game winning run and took out Schrauth. Luckily Flanagan was able to make a hero block on Raridon’s guy and his guy.

Agreed, except, he did manage to wall off two defenders in Love's TD run.
Understood. I'm sure he executed a block 15% of the time at least and I'm glad he finally got that one but go back and watch the plays that were very short gains or TFLs, it often looked like they expected Cooper to be better at his assignments.

Gonna need to clean up TE blocking
Agreed but remember blocking is by far the hardest skill for a TE to master. Durham Smythe is in his 7th year in the league not because he’s a freak athlete or a great pass catcher, but because he’s a phenomenal blocker.

I thought he looked tentative in his blocking. As you said, he missed blocks and assignments, but I didn't really see him attack when he had the right guy, either. All that comes with more experience and practice, though.

Both need to get right against niu in both phases.

TE1 - 88, Mitchell Evans, 6-5, 260 lbs., Sr.
TE2 - 9, Eli Raridon, 6-7, 250 lbs., Jr.

Cooper Flanagan is off the depth chart this week after suffering an ankle injury against Miami (Ohio) and officially being ruled out for this weekend against Louisville.

I think this is why he was angry after the bad throw from RL.

Coop Flanagan is out the remainder of the season/playoffs 😢

Unbelievable the amount of injuries this team has sustained this year, but they keep chugging along.

Did Cooper fully tear his Achilles? Gonna need him next year.

Really feel like Raridon isnt the athlete he was before injury. You could also say the same about Mitch Evans, unfortunately.

I think you need time to recover your athleticism. Raridon is probably going to be more athletic with more time removed from his knee injury. See Price.

And if the injury is serious enough, I'm not sure we can rely on Flanagan to be a major contributor. Even a partial tear will take a few months to heal, but full recovery can take up to a year. He's probably looking at, best case, similar situation to Raridon, where he's available, but he's limited.

So yeah, I definitely consider moving Thomas. I think he can be similar to what Irv Smith Jr was at Bama or Tremble here. A smaller, H-back type of TE who's also a very strong blocker. Of course, that could also be what they see in Larson and/or Washington.

Wish we would have landed Max Klare from Purdue. Wonder what went wrong there.
Wish Evans had another year. He took almost the entire season to get back to his old form.
Maybe the younger Flanigan will be ready to help. Need two TEs these days, three’s even better

On the average acl injury you need to count on a year and a half before they are back to their old self.

I love Thomas and he's a good strong blocker but he is also substantially smaller than our TEs, most of whom have four inches and 30-40 pounds on him. Would it make any sense to move Colzie to TE?

Flanagan had the achilles injury late so I think it's best to assume it'll be a year from injury before he's ready to be eased in, meaning he's probably a redshirt for 2025. They have to be looking for a TE to add to the mix. Can't rely on Raridon/Washington/true freshman Flanigan

They have Jack Larsen maybe they are high on him?

Denbrock has never really coveted TEs, correct?
Right. He doesn't utilize them in his schemes like we've been used to.

Whatever it takes, I guess, but I think the tight end is a very good equalizer. Especially if you have very good ones like we've seen in the past for so many years.

With Denbrock as OC, I'm not expecting tight end to be as deep as the previous OCs. How much did we run 12 last year compared to previous years? I assume that will drop more and more.

That is true...i dont remember where but I thought I remember seeing somewhere that TE recruiting going forward would be lower priority and that they would only take 1 each year.
