NIU is going to come with 21 and 12 personnel. A lot of motion and gap schemes. Some play action. They will be physical running the ball in the MAC. Al's Goldens, on the other hand, are a totally different beast than anything the MAC will bring them.

They had a rough September last year after winning at BC in OT in the opener. Managed to get to a bowl and go 7-6.

Expect/hope for incremental improvement. I'd like to see over 200 yds rushing again, I'd like to see 250+ yds passing. I'd like to see our defense not take a game off and I'd like to see a very heavy rotation of guys so we continue to stay fresh. 3 or more 20+ yard passes

Add to Mitchell Evans workload by 10 plays
Reduce Howard Cross' snapcount by 1/3rd
Get at least one freshman RB in the game for some work
Heavy rotation of WRs
Heavy rotation of DBs and LBs
Heavy rotation on the DL
Ask the punter to let one rip

Bonus points if we can get another QB in the game to get reps although, it may be more beneficial to have Leonard get more reps in game with the WRs.

Can't sleepwalk any week, that's for certain (remember Marshall, ugh). FWIW, ESPN Power Rankings after Wk 1, ND is @ #6 whereas NIU is #92 (4th amongst MAC teams ... behind #83 CMU, #87 Miami OH, #90 Toledo). Wk. 3 opponent Purdue is ranked #46 (@ West Lafayette).

I’d love to see Cam Williams get some ball in this game.

I honestly think Saldate is more game ready now. It'll all click for Cam but let him season this year so he can cut it loose next year. Besides, we'd have to top into 8-10 WRs in this game. Certainly possible I suppose

I mean he can play AND preserve his red-shirt. A red-shirt, mind you, that will be completely useless if he turns out to be 1/2 as good as we hope.

Is it confirmed whether there will be alcohol sales in the stadium?

Fair point but if he's as good as we hope, then perhaps the staff would prefer to hold his 4 games of use until we're making a playoff run/end of season so he has enough time to continue learning the nuances of route running, polishing his WR game.

No argument from me, I trust the staff because they've now shown they will play anyone who can practice/play at a high level.

Went over to check out their message board (yes, they have one) and they are surprisingly cocky. Actually calling us small and slow. Hope the boys can get some bulletin board material to give them a little chip on their shoulder.

They get four regular season games & then accrue more as they win more CFP games. Can’t remember the total but it ends up being a lot more than four games if they go far in the CFP.

I'm much more interested in seeing if Thomas, Greathouse, and Mitchell can make some plays. Those guys were awful quiet in Week 1
That’s sort of why I am hoping Cam Williams is developing quick and is ready to go. Apart from Collins it’s crickets.

NIL is 10-15 the last two years. At times under their current coach I’ve witnessed them as a hot mess.

I’d expect some sporadic success that (WIL held them early at home last week) will dissipate by 3rd quarter. Relax and don’t be surprised by a closer 1st quarter than you want and reserve your online fits until after halftime. It will be okay in the end.

For those of you who might be as confused as I was
NIL = NIU
In this case, NIL does not equal cash money for visits and signings

I understand being a homer for your team... NIU should be.. they just beat a team 54-15 - very impressive. It would be even more impressive if that team they just beat would have won a game in the past two years.

WIU's record last five years...

Judging by the stats they aren’t due for another win for 365 days.

We're talking about NIU fans and their belief they should be closer than a +30 margin? I don't see any problem.

I found the comment funny that said we don't have "speed" like the B10/SEC. No one would've argued that last year when we were putting Estime out and we had an injured WR room. We were more ground and pound last year and I'm sure that's what comes to mind for these guys.

Saturday should be fun and maybe they'll have a different opinion after the game. Or maybe ND struggles to be cohesive and their bets payoff. I believe our team should be capable of showing "speed" like the vaunted B10/SEC. Never seen someone taut the B10 speed but it's a new world we live in.

So here's a question I genuinely don't know the answer to - how are the extra games handled in terms of eligibility. I know bowl games didn't count in the past, but what about now that a team can play up to 4 more?

I politely disagree. The first quarter will be close, but the abuse will be in full force in the second quarter.
